Not legal without making a deal with the copyright holder. But.. he can do the whole movie this way, and is not responsible it some fan edits the bits to be a whole piece again..

He should, he's doing a wonderful job. I remember watching the original film when it was on TV. It's what, I think gave Gene the acting bug for awhile!

I was 12 and had been to my first Kiss concert already. So seeing the films version of Gene blowing fire was disappointing! I couldn't understand why they didn't let him do it for real!!! Redone it looks incredible! Xander, should definitely redo the whole movie! Then have a live while we watch the completed work!

I remember being really excited waiting for this to be on tv. I was 9 and a huge Kiss fan. Halfway through the movie, I was embarrassed that I was watching it and hoped that I wouldn't catch too much flack for it at school the next day. 😆

Thank you for the comment, Tyler!! Since you are an actual VFX artist I must ask; what would have made this better? What needs done to the fire-breathing to make it even better? I tried adding a little heat distortion (like the mirage effect you see on asphalt on a hot day) but it looked awful. But any other advice is appreciated! And yes, Detroit Rock City is such a fun movie! I need to re-watch it, it's been a couple years XD

@@kissarmythings I mean, it's pretty rad and matches pretty well with the campy aesthetic. I think you could go a little more bloomed on the lightning, like a very very small, but bright, radius glow. You might even like messing with Vector Blur for an organic look to the lightning assets - it can adjust thickness and there's an organic bridging look to it if you play with the settings just right. Biggest thing is just focusing on the degraded film look, the lack of dynamic range, softness, and think about how the lenses react to the bright light sources as well as the film stock. The movie is soft so adding a bit of blur to the lightning would help integrate it. I think the fire needs less saturation where its hottest. Specifically the first 1/3 or half starting from his mouth. You were really onto it about how fire looks at night on film when you expose for anything in the scene. If you don't see flame detail at the core of the fire then it should be clipping white. I notice your transition flames clip to white but the flamebreath clips to yellow. I was jazzed by the fire breathing you accomplished. And content aware fill here is blackmagic... As for the heat distortion: You could apply that behind the fire asset in a small radius from the edges. The size and detail of the heat distortion is pretty relative to the detail of the turbulent flames. Keep it up! I like this format of you just jumpin in and seeing how it goes. You're doin good work :) Such a fun movie. I had to hunt it down on disc because it's not always streaming.
