In today's episode of Sorted, I will be fixing six oil leaks on my 2005 Mercedes C55 AMG. These jobs apply to about a dozen different models spanning about a decade. Basically, if you have an M112 or M113 engine from about 1997 to about 2008 most of these repairs apply. We will tackle valve cover gaskets, breather chambers, oil cooler seals, the oil filter housing seal, a pressure port seal and I go over the dipstick grommet seal.
I'm super excited to announce a totally free way that anyone can support the channel!! I was approved for an Amazon Influencer account which allows KZfaqrs like myself, and other creators to earn a small commission from sales generated from people first clicking on my Amazon link, and then buying anything from Amazon. This doesn't cost you a penny as Amazon compensates the creators for driving traffic and sales to the site. So even if you don't buy the product or tool that I link in the video description box, you are still supporting the channel by shopping on Amazon after you clicked through any of my links. Each video will have either specific links to things I use or talk about in the video, or you will see my general LegitStreetCars Amazon link like this. www.amazon.com/shop/legitstre...
Next time you need car parts, tools, diapers, condoms, fidget spinners or anything on Amazon think of good ole Alex from LegitStreetCars.
Check out FCP Euro for all your Euro parts needs and don't forget they offer a lifetime warranty on everything they sell. I know, they're crazy!!

I used oil eaters for a cleaning solution and so far so good. Only $40 for a 5-gallon drum on Amazon. You only need about 4 gallons as this is a 4:1 water to cleaner ratio and it's a 20-gallon parts washer. Takes 5 minutes to build.

Here are the tools you need for these repairs. Links are just to give you an idea, I have many different brand tools in my arsenal but don't be afraid to use Amazon for tools. I do all the time, like for that massive 46mm Socket.
3/8 Ratchet- goo.gl/GTjz4h
Extensions- goo.gl/s6AtXh
1/2 Drive Ratchet needed for Oil Filter housing nut- goo.gl/t6nuo5
46MM 12 Point Socket- goo.gl/bfi4JW
3/4 to 1/2 Inch Reducer for 46mm Socket for Oil filter housing nut- goo.gl/Qyrrk9
Cheap Screw Driver to turn into breather chamber scrapper- goo.gl/gesZ4H
Inverted Torx Set. You need an E30 but the set is good to have for any Mercedes- goo.gl/tEY1mt
Torx Sockets set for coil pack bolts and breather chamber screws- goo.gl/gsdp84
Oil Dipstick- goo.gl/vP7A3q
Some Torque Specs for ya.
Valve Cover Bolts- 10NM
Breather chamber Screws- 4NM
46mm Nut for oil cooler- 70NM
4 Oil Cooler Bolts- Around 10 NM, couldn't find the exact spec.
2 Bolts for Pressure Port- Around 10 NM, couldn't find the exact spec.

Who daily drives their AMG? Actually who daily drives any Mercedes? List model and miles. Even though my daily is a Chevy Volt I've driven this car about 1000 miles in three weeks because it's just too damn fun.

I don't what is, but you have about the most "soothing" and calm voice and demeanor of any auto vlogger on KZfaq. I love just having your videos playing in the background while working in my garage. It keeps me calm and reminds me I have to get onto my car maintenance!

Another great video Alex. My 2007 CLK 550 is just about to hit 101k, I love it more everyday. Comfortable enough around town, even on craggy LA roads. Wonderful on the highway, and lively enough for a regular canyon run. It would cost more than a car to get another parking space here... But why would I need another car?

I didn't have a car or license for 5 years and haven't owned a decent car in 20 years. Last year, I started looking at C-class; under $15k, just looking on Carguru at the listings over and over...and then I saw a C55 locally. Mint condition, 97k miles and as I read the description and did some research I said to myself, "This car is special". I never even heard of it before. Got my license back in June 2017, bought my ride the next day. I have driven 35k miles in the last 13 months and OMG Becky, I love my car. 90% of that mileage has been on the highway, mostly at night and I can't tell you how pleasureable it is to really drive a car, at 95, 105 110 mph for extended periods of time. Most people don't DRIVE their cars, they just ride around in them; I GET TO DRIVE!!...i really appreciate this series of videos

I bought my first Mercedes about 10 years ago. It was a little C Class and I fell in love. Since then I have owned 4 E Classes and in my opinion, Mercedes makes very reliable cars. If you can do maintenance yourself, it's cheaper to maintain than a Honda Civic.
@mcearl8073
@mcearl8073 5 жыл бұрын
Richard how do you figure that? I can see it being cheaper if you compare DIY on thtools Mercedes and take the Civic to a dealer for service but otherwise it’s definitely not cheaper. Mine takes like 8.5 qts of oil, a filter that’s 2x a Honda filter, 2x batteries that aren’t cheap. 2 spark plugs per cylinder and they are over 7 bucks a pop. That said, it’s not really a big deal, I’d much rather pay the extra and drive a Mercedes than save a little and drive s civic. I also realize a lot of people will be cheap and buy the cheapest plugs and oil and aftermarket parts to save some money but I’m not convinced yet that that is a great idea. I tried getting a cheap fuel pump and a lot of the parts didn’t fit right so I ended up having to do a lot of modifications on it and now I honestly don’t have a ton of confidence in it. I think in the future I’m going to try to stick with manufacturer recommended parts when I can, if there’s a significant difference in price then maybe I’ll risk it depending on what it is.

So glad the oil filter housing, etc. is same design as on the m112 in my w220 s320. My mum "broke down" tonight and I believe it's the massive amount of oil on the drive belt that is causing it to slip and not power the alternator. I believe the leak is one of these common ones.

you can also replace the MAF seals, the come cheap and there are three different versions, each one with increase number of grooves so it will seal better. And finally do a vacuum leakdown test. Just to make sure. And i would be using a wooden pry tool so i won't be risking damaging the covers. But then again i did this on the E not on the C class, so more room to work.

I drove a c240 97 model. I put 100k in that car. Owned it twice too. Thanks to you and a previous vid where you flipped three mercs, I got involved in mechanics during lock down. My engine was the m112, the baby 6v - I had to buy two Haynes manuals as this was the first model, 2.8 litre model that had this engine. I bought all the hits in the U.K. - I had that car working so sweet. Did regular oil changes, changed all o2 sensors. All spark plugs. The oil cooler gaskets that had plasticised. Torqued all engine bolts as over time they had worked loose, even replaced the intake fan clutch. Sorted an ignition coil. Patched up some exhaust holes. Tightened up the exhaust struts and supports. Even changed the serpentine belt. I remember doing all this work on it and I drove for three miles to test it, went round a round about, heard all this screeching. I looked about - it was just me on the road. It was like driving a comfortable couch. One that could easily hit 110mph. I miss that car. It was so easy to work on.

Hi Alex, keep up the great work... I assumed modern Mercs were far too complex, expensive and so forth for just about any home repairs.... Even moreso for AMGs! Mercs had been automatically no-go cars for me for that exact reason - "if anything needs fixing, it'll need to go to a dealer and cost thousands"... Your videos and referrals to affordable parts are pretty incredible. It's not quite a mid-90s Toyota........... But it's all WAY easier and cheaper than I'd ever have thought; not really any special tools, and many parts available cheap.... It's obviously all easier than working on any Subaru ever made!!! All of your videos make me want to go buy a 15 year old AMG :D

Great video I watched it last year and just watched it again. I have a w220 and I replaced all the gaskets and resealed the breather covers as well. I still have a leak and had it checked and I was told it could be the front crank seal. I wanted to k ke if that is something that can be done by me or do I need to have someone else replace it.

Hi Alex, awesome video!! That for sure helps me to work on my ML320 2002. Unfortunately, I don’t think I solve mi issue complete. From time to time I had oil light on, and car was consuming oil. Yes it was a bit “sweating “from breather chamber and had that yellow colour under oil cup. So I replaced all the hoses and installed a new gasket. But the issue is still there, any idea why????? Thanks again Keep posting more videos!

Sweeeeeet satisfying video! Thanks for taking the time to finish your originally planned video before posting half of it (like some other KZfaqers)! How do you take the EGR valve off with no space??? I can't fit my hand in there on my CLK500 and when I tried to remove that tube portion it began to fold...
