Nice work ,it isn’t easy! Messy,dusty and time consuming.... I do this quite a bit, if you have a Harbor Freight around grab 2 different wire wheels from them they are inexpensive and will flat out blow your wire wheel out of the water on rusty metal. One is the 3” warrior ,a twisted wire cup brush, item # 47927 they are 5.99, the other is the 4 1/2” carbon steel knotted wire wheel item# 60488. Also I have an Ingersol Rand needle scaler that is amazing IF you have enough air compressor to run it . It gets cracks crevices and scale off very quickly . Keep up the good work.

great project- I bought a 2017 ram 2500 diesel and starting to think that going older and pre emissions is the way to go these days to avoid all the bs on newer diesel engines- good luck with wifemax!

Prior to switching to being a stay at home dad, i worked at an automotive welding facility. We specialized in repairng rusted, rotten and broken frames. Never got this in depth, but its fun to see. Upstate ny truck (where im from) are usually rotten. Needle scaler and a heavy grinder and wire wheel are key. Nicely done.

Have you ever used Ospho? RUSTED METALS - OSPHO is a rust-inhibiting coating - NOT A PAINT You do not have to remove tight rust. Merely remove loose paint and rust scale, dirt, oil, grease and other accumulations with a wire brush or pressure washer and let dry - apply a thin coat of OSPHO as it comes pre-diluted in the container. I'm a welder and treat all my projects with this prior to paint and it works wonders.

I found out the hard way years ago, to paint inside a garage in the cold winter months, using a ready heater with kerosene or diesel fuel like you have leaves fish eyes and oil marks in the fresh paint job. I then switched over to a propane heater from local hardware show 80k btu worked remarkably

Looks awesome, you guys did and excellent job! May I suggest next time if there is one, to drop the tank about a foot and make sure to clean up and paint the bottom of the tank cross member... I found a significant amount of rust on mine when I did this. Keep up the good work 🤙🏻

Great job and I agree with everyone. It's good to see the both of you getting in on this together. You both deserve a attaboy for that. It's not something you see a lot but great when you do. I am however surprised you haven't already gotten the motor and transmission with the transfer case from the other truck over to the other shop already. Having it gone through and done out of the vehicle. Plus before applying the paint product, primer ok but not the paint product. Do all your suspension work, drain the fuel tank, replace the filter and basically everything else needed with the bed off ... get the body work and everything done and painted ... body, frame and suspension, exhaust and all..then re-install the bed, new tires and rims and finally installing the motor and drivetrain and trim and interior ... then your done and running... just seems like you are out of sync in the rebuild steps. ? Well you guys have a plan, keep up the good work. Always fun to watch.

Unfortunately I’m a busy guy, I have 4 kids and I have two full time jobs also I’m still trying to get funds in order as well. Knocking out the little stuff saves a lot of time, I don’t plan to get all perfect on this build I just want a good running truck for the wife so please be patient 👍

I’m surprised that you didn’t take the cab off. You could rust proof the entire truck plus it would be easier to do the engine install. Keep up the great work.

I get everything sand blasted now.... Chassis saver isn't bad, it is better then POR15. Primer you should be using a type of epoxy primer. You can use undercoating in a can, this product is made to be put over rust. Been using it in Ohio for a few years now and it holds up against the salt, calcium, and brine

Wow, this video brings back memories.. Put an aluminum bed on my 04 couple years ago. Did same frame job on mine (not as thorough) Used same grinders etc.. Had two disc come apart causing minor cuts😬 (lucky). Best memory was the big ass wire brush on angle grinder. I hit something and grinder escaped my hands. Came very close to being de nutted. Ripped crotch out of new Wranglers🤨. Kinda funny now

Highly reccomend Fluid Film now man gotta get ya some of that its a miracle in a can just tried it on my lml and im 100% convinced check it out you can spray right on paint dont even matter but reading the back of the can just try to stay away from rubber with it. Other than that its amazing

Looks great, dustless blasted my 9 last year. Whst did you use for paint? I used a industrial equipment enamel with a good primer and its held up threw 2 winters well. We sprayed with oil of course. Keep up the good stuff, we custom build many projects like you do aswell.

to do this job right, you have to drop the fuel tank and at least inspect/clean up/prime/paint the 2 fuel tank crossmembers. otherwise you'll be replacing crossmembers a few short years down the road. Ask me how I know.

Safety note. Those wire wheels are one of the very most dangerous tools in the shop. Wear safety glasses and face shield. They throw a lot of wires and could go right thru ur eye ball Looks awesome. A lot of work What do u think of POR?

It’s a shame you guys get all that rust after a few years back east. Been working on my 86 Silverado converting it to 4X4 no rust issues at all. I’m in central Ca.

I'm pretty sure I mentioned this before, you'd be better off getting a DEWALT Wire Cup Brush, Knotted, 3-Inch (DW4910) instead of the one you're using now. Thanks for sharing.

Should pull that fuel tank! Guaranteed those crossmembers are hiding heavy rust in there. Trust me I have done many also you should have degreased and used either a phosphoric acid or metal prep to etch the metal to treat metal and help aid the primer in adhesion. Lastly before any primer or paint spray down with a baking soda and water solution to neutralize acids and salts on the metal to stop any reactions, then powerwash really well and throughly dry. A lot more work but if you want it to last you really need to do this.

@@TruckMaster Just to bad the salt eats everything up. If you want added protection in areas you can't get into get some eastwood frame encapsulater and follow up with a spray body wax. definitely check the crossmembers especially the one right after cab at front of fuel tank they are bare steel inside😟. There are small drain holes on the bottom that allow to spray with a flex wond in side. Anyways trucks looking good and definitely much better then before👍

So josh if the engine is in a 2003 then the injectors are under the value covers wow that’s a bad year for injectors but ifin they have been changed then Yull have about 75 thousand miles before the next set.
