This is seriously inspirational as a GMT800 owner. I've got a rusty old '05 Escalade EXT as my beater truck and it has done everything I needed it to and more even while being in very rough shape from the previous owner. 6 years of tough conditions (4 of them in Buffalo, NY winters) and I would love to give it this treatment someday - she's earned it

I did this entire process to my 03 silverado just a few weeks ago. Replaced all the crossmembers in the rear and derusted the entire truck basically and painted it all up with por15. Just got done with bodywork a including fixing the rocker panel holes, then bedlined the whole truck black. Came out good, won't have to worry about rust for a long time. Also fluid filming it before salt season. Wish I had a lot of the tools you do here for this job haha

@oof578
@oof578 2 жыл бұрын
@@mm-nl3qz it's worked pretty good but I would suggest 2 coats instead of the 1 coating did. Or 1 coat and something else, like bedliner. ALSO definitely pay the like 8-10$ for some crossmember frame caps. Coat the whole inside of them with oil. I used fluid film, get some sealant and apply to caps, push the caps in the holes. Crossmembers are sealed and protected, will never fucking rust on the inside atleast. I also got wheel well liners from rough country that work so good to prevent waters and everything just shooting up at the frame. I just bedlined my entire truck too

You did a pretty good job of repairing the corrosion on that rear frame. I'm just wondering why you didn't spray it down with Rustoliums rust encapsulater then primer before you painted it. Yes it would cost more but would go a long way to keeping the original and replacement metal for becoming a repeat of what you started with.

Recently stumbled across your channel and really enjoying your builds. I like the attention to detail. Just wanted to share a tip that’s worked well for me, with the amount of effort you’re putting into rust resto. I live in a state with lots of snow and heavily salted roads as well, I hate rust so I also use fluid film and started with that same rustoleum paint but still had to re-do a lot of the paint annually- I swapped to Por-15 paint with a annual coat of fluid film and haven’t had to re-do the paint in years now.

That's one thing I don't miss about living in Michigan is all the dang rust. I moved to northern Idaho several years ago and can find find rust free trucks all day long. The only down side is they have been driven up and down mountains and they are mechanically worn out but I would rather deal with that than the rust.

Hey dude I enjoyed the video; however, since you took everything apart and mostly down to bare metal, you could have brushed on some rust encapsulator, or sprayed on some raptor liner after a coat or two of self etch primer, or rusty metal primer (the brown one). Then later on you can still spray the undercarriage with wax, etc to protect from New England winters, but I doubt any rust will make it through that top layer of raptor. Truck undercarriage would look mint too!

Bed liners are super durable, but water and salt usually end up getting underneath it, and once it does, it causes the metal to rust even faster because it holds the water/salt there. In my experience, oil undercoating once a year is really the best way to keep water and salt away from the metal 👍

At my girlfriends chiro appointment watching this man get surface rust off a frame and dropping a gas tank like I’m about ready to do the few things on my car plus want a 4 door long bed 4x4 in that version but navy blue.

“Where’s Waldo” well i found him! He has one of the coolest videos ive seen in a long time. This was amazing. You are borderline genius for how well you fabricated that tubing/crossmember. I learned so much from this video and your editing was fantastic. The way you narrate is super professional. Not talking too much but just enough to explain what is happening. Instantly subscribed and cant wait to watch another video! I didnt know you could fabricate a crossmember or install a whole new aftermarket rear piece. That bracket was like brand new. Really impressive!

That's probably the best work I've seen on any of these KZfaq videos. You have the best way of doing so people understand.
