Happy new Year and I hope 2022 has been a great one for you. We're closing the year with an unusual flight, which travels from Mayotte to Reunion and on to Metropolitan France. All of those places are part of France (France treats its overseas departments as literally part of France, you see!), so this happens to be one of the world's longest and most unique domestic flights. The longest? Also French! Paris to Tahiti, operated by Air France and Frenchbee. Thanks so much for following me in 2022 - I have some big plans for 2023 and I'm looking forward to sharing those with you very soon!

Corsair used to give great registrations to its aircrafts, there were 3 747's with registrations ending in SEA, SEX, SUN. They all had a different picture completing the livery, SEA had waves, SEX had a lipstick kiss, SUN had, oh surprise, a rising sun. And at 7:13 it seems Air Austral is doing the same with F-OMER (overseas in French is said outre-mer). It may just be a coincidence but there's also F-OREU (as in Réunion) so I think that when they can, they ask for a meaningful registration. Happy new year!

Really nice flights showing how far France actually spreads. There is an even longer domestic flight with a french lowcost airline called FrenchBee from Paris to Papeete in French Polynesia totaling near 16000 km. French Polynesia is an absolute gem of a spot where I had the chance to live in for a year so if you are looking for another bizarre domestic flight this is it!

Go Crazier than that Noumea to Tahiti to Dzaoudzi to Paris (there would be aircraft/airline changes) but it all would be from "within France" and you would literally go around the world

One thing, Tahiti isn't one of the Departments d'Outre Mer (in other words, it's not an integral part of the French Republic, it is a separate subdivision). As Mayotte is one of these, then it's correct that it's route to Paris via Réunion does make it the longest domestic flight route in the world
@SoldierXXL
@SoldierXXL Жыл бұрын
@SiVlog It is still considered domestic though when traveling to a Collectivitée d'outre mer to Mainland France or a Departement d'outre Mer , as a French citizen you can travel between these only with your Carte Nationale D'identité and do not need a passport I know I have done it multiple times in the past the only problem is if you transit in a foreign country and need to leave the airport you can't without a passport but arriving from Paris to Papeete or Noumea or to Paris from there all I had to show was my ID card.

@Xavier Lignieres so what you're saying is (comparing it to the UK and its various subdivisions for example) it would be like flying from London Heathrow to Port Stanley, Falkland Islands?

There are some really amazing local places to eat as well. One I like in particular is Le Palanquin. It is a Chinese Restaurant right on the main road out from the airport. The food there is awesome.

Wow Paul that looks like an epic trip on Corsair! The A330-900neo is also beautiful 😍 Also I love the livery on that EWA 737-800 and the Air Austral A220 is also such a great looking plane in a gorgeous looking livery! Also I’m so an Avgeek as I recognized the 747-400 in the safety video and the upper deck of the 747 just off the window seat pictured! However I already knew that I’m an Avgeek!! Finally you mentioned at 15:09 that “Corsair a small airline goes up against the gigantic Air France.” 🇫🇷WAIT A MINUTE! Isn’t Corsair OWNED by the Air France KLM Group???? I thought they were so how could the “go up against” AF from RUN-CDG? 😮 Cheers mate! 🥂 Caleb’s Aviation

@KyrilPG

Mayotte not so much, but Île de la Réunion is touristy, mainly for sports, hiking, and discovery. It's a surfing spot and it's a popular overseas French destination for domestic yet exotic tourism. Guadeloupe and Martinique in the Caribbean are more accessible, affordable and beach oriented while Réunion is more expensive and premium tourism. There's the big volcano in la Réunion (the whole island is somehow the volcano) that is a great attraction, especially the caldera that collapsed and makes a somewhat flat and desert like plain surrounded by the volcano walls. All around the caldera, the slopes of the volcano are covered with lush vegetation with parts comparable to a jungle. Hope that answered some of your questions.

Corsair if I'm not mistaken also had a sizeable fleet of Boeing 747s which sadly were retired due to Covid. In any case it's mpressive to see such domestic flights
@KyrilPG
@KyrilPG Жыл бұрын
And they had great registrations ending in SEA, SEX, SUN, I don't remember the 4th one. They were some of the highest density 747 on the planet, 580 seats or something. It was a flying cattle transport, the domestic air bridge for beachgoers. Air France did something similar with its COI-sector assigned aircrafts (COI > Caraïbes Océan Indien / Caribbean Indian Ocean). They were high density versions with specific classes, a lower standard economy, a "business" class that was more like a light premium economy and no first class on board. High density but still less than Corsair as it was way too much for AF standards. The pricing scheme was a bit particular, islanders paid a lower price as it's their lifeline to the mainland while mainland vacationers tended to pay a higher price. At least it was like that at some point, it may not be the case anymore, I'm probably not up to date. My flight attendant friends hated most of those flights, but quite liked the destinations.

When I think of long domestic flights those that feature trips between the contiguous US & American overseas Pacific territories can also be quite long, whether nonstop or requiring connections. Flights within Canada & Russia can be long although many don't cross km of ocean unlike those to Metropolitan France from Africa-based French overseas dependencies.
