Hummingbird Spot

Күн бұрын

We traveled to Ubatuba in the Atlantic rainforest of Brazil to visit "Jonas' Place," the home of Jonas d'Abronzo. He has been feeding hummingbirds here for many years and he has created what can only be described as a paradise for hummingbirds and other birds. We took photographs and video of the incredible Festive Coquette (including some video of fighting hummingbirds), the Reddish Hermit and the Glittering-throated Emerald.
My name is Carole Turek and I am on a quest to photograph every single hummingbird species on the planet! There are over 350 types and I currently have photographed more than 180 of them.
Come with me virtually as I explore Central and South America to find the most beautiful hummingbirds in the world.

I’ve been on a binge, watching your videos. The birds are all so amazing & you photograph them so well. What I love most: you are photographing them in nature, drinking from flowers as nature intended. Don’t get me wrong feeders have their uses… But Thank you!

Actually, this is the first time I've shown the Glittering-throated. The other one was the Glittering-bellied! So many birds and many of them are very similar even though they are different species.

Another informative video with more beautiful birds. The Reddish Hermit is such a cute little bird; I love its beautiful coloring with multiple shades of brown - very pretty. The iridescent green throat contrasted with the white belly in the Glittering-throated Emerald is gorgeous. The female Festive Coquette with her back to the camera in the video is gorgeous; I love the pale, almost pastel coloring. Thank you Carole; always looking forward to the next one.

One additional info that might interest you is that the Glittering-throated Emerald you got at Ubatuba is of a different subspecies (tephrocephala), which is one of the most guaranteed splits for the next years. It is different in size, color, voice, nesting behavior, and endemic to the Brazilian Atlantic coast.

Then I will gain a new species when it splits! Thanks for the information.

Hi 👋. New subscriber and new hummingbird fan. Up here in central Alberta Canada we had an early snow. I still had some flowers up and after a couple days of snow I went outside and caught a hummingbird at my garden! I was shocked that it could be up here still in the cold! I have a lot to learn. Thanks and enjoy your channel. 👍

Yes it is amazing how much many of them tolerate the cold. Northwestern US and southwestern Canada have Anna's Hummingbirds all winter long. Hardy little things!

The rufous-crested coquettes in Panama look different from the Peruvian ones. I wonder if these will split in the future as well?
