yessssss this is very very true! i think i largely aimed it at girls initially because fibroadenomas are pretty rare in males, but in hindsight, i should have mentioned this for sure - so thank you for sharing this 👌🏻

Thank you SO much for posting this. I found a lump by accident back in November & I have never been so terrified. They found three in total. I had an ultrasound & a biopsy, and thankfully they are fibroadenoma. It’s so important to talk about these things as I’d never heard of it before it happened to me. I’m so glad you started the conversation so others can learn about it too❤️

Thanks for sharing all this info about fibroadenoma! When I discovered mine I freaked out and instantly booked a doctor's appointment. My doctor just told me it's glandular tissue and there's nothing to worry about, but I'm a little paranoid (family history with breast cancer that was dismissed as a harmless tumor for too long) to this day and keep an eye on it. I never did a lot of research on it, so it's very good to know that they're very normal and pretty harmless.

Thanks for really going in depth about this topic Holly:) I had Fibroadenoma during the puberty, and I was so scared it was cancer. A year before finishing high school, they disappeared and I was so shocked to feel no painful lumps 😭 Now that I’m Older, I definitely need to make a habit of feeling for any lumps

Hey Holly so glad it turned out to be a bening tumor. I have gone through the exact same procedure as you since I found my lump in November. Mine was already 2cm big and after an ultrasound they decided to do a microbiopsie where they extracted tissue sample and indeed it was a bening fibroadenoma and not malignant. So so glad you shared your experience so that women can be aware of this!! Not an easy thing to talk about, but so important. Thank you.

last year i ran a half marathon for breast cancer now. it’s an incredible charity that offers so much information (including that men can also get breast cancer!!), and actually describes how to check your breasts for cancer signs. would recommend checking them out!! so glad everything’s okay holly💛💛 thank you for using your platform in this way x

Additional info I was given when diagnosed with mine (it’s huge, unlike yours lol): the only potential problem regarding cancer is that if a cancerous lump were to develop behind it, it would be impossible to feel! I still made the decision to « keep » it but monitoring at home. Mine also was pretty painful at first bc it grew fast, but they told me it was actually a clue for it being benign: breast cancer lumps aren’t painful apparently? But yeah. My mom had the same so the genetic hypothesis is verified for me! And hers did go away with menopause. Sharing for any worried people out there ❤

ahhhh yes that is very very true! and thank you for sharing, because these things can be super scary, but as you said and i also mentioned in the video, monitoring lumps and feeling your breasts regularly is most important, as well as going for check-ups and if something doesn't feel quite right! ✨

Thanks for the biology lesson. I’ve forgotten most of this post A level. Cancer i remember, breast anatomy no. I rarely can feel anything on me (pulse etc) but found a big lymph node on the right of my neck when I had a pretty bad right ear infection. It was like a very ripe grape. And I understood what nurses and doctors look for in inflamed lymph nodes

I went through the same emotions with my fibroadenoma! Mine was quite big when I discovered it, so I had to do a biopsy, and the week waiting for the result was super stressful… luckily it was a fibroadenoma but I really understand how you felt

Glad you are ok Holly. Mine was not. I was in my thirties. I had to really insist to get seen by a doctor in a reasonable time scale as the receptionist was gatekeeping. We had a shouting match. I had to absolutely insist I was seen. I don’t normally behave like this. Don’t wait to see someone ,….this can take a while. I was very lucky that the dr took it seriously and did refer me to the hospital. And the hospital took it seriously too rather than dismissing me for my age. If you suspect there is something wrong, don’t waste precious time thinking it will go away, there is enough time wasted on waiting lists and you don’t necessarily have it to waste. I had already had surgery before my original drs appointment had come…. And even then my surgeon was jumping up and down because we’d lost one surgery date and been shuffled back. So while I felt bad I had to argue with the receptionist, in the cold light of day, I knew something was really wrong. I also had some secondary symptoms like night sweats and fungal toe nails which can apparently be indicative, and which instantly vanished after surgery. Also, men do have breast tissue, just not much. But it can become cancerous. so guys, don’t think you are off the hook.

I'm so sorry you went through this, I have severe health ocd where all I can think about is cancer, constantly feel like om dying and constantly checking and rechecking my body for lumps. Luckily I'm not as bad as I was since starting cbt, but I want to remind anyone with cancer ocd that feels like you're living in waking nightmare - most breast lumps are normal - don't panic! The media has conditioned us to automatically think lump = cancer, its scaremongering. Trigger warning would be good for this video for those of us whose life has been taken by health ocd Usually I read the comments on your videos bit will skip this time as I know it will send me into a complete panic induced melt down, where I can't sleep or eat for days, spending all waking hours checking rechecking for lumps and having a constant depressing im dying feeling where I can't focus or think of anything else. Physical health is important but so is mental health

Admittedly I don’t check the girls as much as I should, but went to an over due bra fitting a couple of months ago (everyone with breasts, get a proper bra fitting regularly! My shoulders don’t hurt/have grooves any more since getting the right size instead of guessing) and at least then I had a good feel. Like a ‘whilst I’m here basically feeling myself up anyway for the right bra…’. All good then but I should check more regularly like you do

I have a fibroadenoma and they had to do a biopsy (a few years ago). Honestly was scary going to the dr but I’m so glad I went and then went to the breast unit even just for the peace of mind. (Especially because it was my first year at uni and I didn’t tell anyone at the time.). Also when I said to the doctor that I’m a pharmacy student so when I was getting the biopsy done she was showing the different tissue and explaining lots of things which was very interesting :)

Holly, I am glad that the lump turned out to be nothing. I had fibroadenomas and benign cysts in my breasts and I could not feel the lumps nor the doctors. I worry about getting breast cancer because my mother had it and she died from it. I started mammogram screening much earlier than the required age because of my mother having breast cancer. I wish that there was a vaccine to end breast cancer once and for all for women of all ages.

Hi holly, this is my first time watching you but I wanted to say I had the same thing happen to me. I found a small pebble like lump in my breast when I was 16. I was terrified but I knew I needed to get it checked out. I got an ultra sound as well and they said it’s normal so they just check it every 6 months

I'm an oncology nurse and had to say well done...you explained it so well. Thank you for raising awareness. Remember any changes, not just lumps but breast dimples, nipple discharge, hardening of tissue, one breast bigger than the other & pain can also be signs so please see a Dr if you have any

I had a huge breast cysts when I was 16 - I found about it because my high school in Italy did an awareness campaign around it. I went to my GP and he dismissed me like it was nothing. Thank god i could get a spot (a month later) to be seen by a gyno and i had a surgery to remove it like 3 days after my visit to the gyno because on how fast it was growing. Moral of the story please check yourself and be persistent even though you get dismissed by doctors. i still get yearly check of my other lumps but these are not to take out because they are considered "safe"

You’re right, the lymphnodes in your armpits are called axillary (latin for arm pit!) - auxiliary would mean something like ˋproviding help‘.

It's esp. helpful as it's told through your personal experience, it includes lots of lesser-known detail, and since it's online, it avoids potential embarrassment. Also, as you wisely say here, "Please do not always believe Google"! It's worth knowing that Google's pronunciation suggestion is only a guide that is changeable, and not correct for all English speaking areas of the world - so it's okay to stick with your original pronunciation of 'areola,' which for me as well, is the only way I've ever heard it pronounced in the U.S., and during my Biological Sciences degree studies.

Could be a swollen lymph node. I had that and was freaking out. Get your breast checked and and ultra sound done. I pray it's nothing. But dont freak until it's time to freak.

I found a lump in my breast when I was 12. My mum was scared shitless (excuse my language) but luckily like the biology nerd I still am, I was not going to stress. It ended up just being an infection treated with antibiotics :))))

I recently touch them I found 1 I made in an appointment with my dr. She found one more 😮 I’m 45 I’m trying to stay calm trusting in God Now I’m doing a mammogram this coming Wednesday God is in control so I’m not gonna worried about it

This is a great and very important video. However trans men who haven't had breast surgery have the exact same breast tissue as cis women and cis men can also get breast cancer so this isn't just a thing woman should be looking out for
