No. No. HELL, NO! No. Sorry, Alex... While I do love exposed brick and stone, I'm tired of seeing these underground bedrooms with portholes that Landlords are trying to pass off as windows. The first unit at $5300/month must have lost a second bedroom because we sure didn't find it or see it. If one is currently living at home in the basement... STAY THERE and save money! The second unit (Aha! we found the second bedroom!) at $5300/month has the same issues but even more unconscionable is that there is NO BEVERAGE COOLER in the corner snack area! The third 1-bedroom unit at $4200/month is a non, nyet, no, no ma'am, no sir! I'm paying that sort of money to walk up and down several flights of stairs and then risk my life on some type of contraption to access the "roof-deck"? Oh, please... Finally, the fourth unit (1-2 floors below) has the same issues (except no roof access--probably a good thing) and a $100 savings to put towards the hospital bill after experiencing cardiac arrest climbing all of those stairs. FANTASTIC neighborhood! However, an unimpressive selection, IMHO.

Portholes & snack areas lol. Sad but true. & you're walking up not just several flights of stairs but SEVEN. Omg could you imagine the surcharge movers get for that? Neighborhood yes, apartments no.

I think, what a lot of people forget, is that wage/salary often increases with cost of living... Not always, and that's criminal af. But often. I have worked remotely for companies that calculated employee salaries based on where they lived. Their offers were still very competitive, but someone living in NYC, San Francisco, or Boulder could expect to make more than someone living in, say, Dayton, Ohio. Edit: But I completely agree with you with respect to the lack of egress in the bedrooms. That SHOULD be illegal. Everywhere. It's not, but it should be. In 2015, I lived in this massive 2 bed loft. And while the main area of the place was incredible (windows lining the entire space, from one end of the kitchen to the other end of the dining room, and exposed brick, high ceilings, space almost too huge to fill adequately, the whole package, THE BEDROOMS HAD NO WINDOWS (no egress windows. There WERE upper windows below the ceiling that lead to the hallway of the apartment, but come on... that's not a safety feature at all). Which didn't bother me until I got pregnant. And I knew it was time to move. Children need bedroom windows for SO many reasons. And I slowly began to realize, holy shit, we all do. When I was a kid, my parents used to put these stickers on our windows in our old farmhouse. They were reflective and said, in giant letters "TOP PRIORITY", meaning, if there were ever a fire or any other need for emergency services to rescue us from the house, first responders would see these giant stickers and know "Right, these are the first rooms we deal with because there are children inside." A windowless room can become a tomb. Particularly in these old buildings that have had their electric jerry-rigged for decades, sometimes almost a century. Second Edit: Who can't fit through the first place's downstairs bathroom window though? I could sluice right through that. I mean, I'm small, but.. so were a lot of people when these places were built. I could fit through the bottom floors in the second flat too, but I recognize that I'm also shaped like a snake, and that most adults could slither through those.

I really like these units, but I'm concerned about the lack of egress in the bedrooms. The third unit is charming. I love how you can burst out of the floor, like a Morlock, onto an unsuspecting patio filled with people who can afford better rent than you. I'd TOTALLY use this to my prankster advantage. That prank hatch, alone, makes #3 the clear win for me.

4 out of 4 no way, no how would I rent any of them. Sorry Alex. The 1st 1 the stairs leading down to the basement are in a horrible location. The only positive about that is there was an island in the "kitchen" area. The stairs leading to the backyard looked like an accident waiting to happen. The backyard in the 2nd was better. But the downstairs on both 1st & 2nd apartments were like mideval dungeons. Sorry, those weren't bedrooms, they were deathtraps. The 3rd place, a 7th floor walk-up??? I'd be dead b4 I got there. & that "roof deck" with that hinky ladder? Really you couldn't possibly get food & drinks up there unless you had a drone deliver the food. The 4th might have been the best of them but still just no. For the price there are way better places. We'll you win some & you lose some. I'm sure someone will rent them tho.

It definitely used to be a great neighborhood. But it went donwhill last few years. Maybe on right where the apartment is, it's fine. But walk a few blocks over to Chrystie, the homeless/junkie to regular person ratio goes up the closer you get to the park on Chrystie. Especially on Delancey. There's a person on almost every corner asking people for $. And i know It was always a thing. But during lockdowns it went out of hand because cops were told to leave them alone, but seemingly forgot to tell them when it was over so the amount of homeless/junkies went up and never went back down

@alex murphy Well, Alex, it didn't happen overnight, it took lots of hard work, learning in the school of hard knocks, sound investments, saving money rather than spending it foolishly, real estate, buying low, selling high, the usual strategies plus a lot of luck and faith in God and myself and trusting the process, not to mention knowing the right people etc etc. America is the best place to make it. Anyone born here is in the top 1% when compared to the other 7 billion on the Earth. But America is in for some real hard times if we don't get back on track and soon. You know what I'm talking about, I'm sure!!
@jacksonmorganfroghin4815

@alex murphy With all due respect, I don't know what country you live in or where you're getting your information but it's way off. Apparently you are misinformed! Based on who consumes the most goods, the poorest Americans consume by far the most. If they were a country they would be one of the richest countries in the world. You can look it up. Yes due to the world wide web, you can start a business anywhere. But the proof is in the eating. Watch Shark Tank. America is still the land of opportunity. Our southern border is wide open thanks to Pres. Biden so why is there a never ending stream of people coming into the US if it's as poor as you say? I don't see a lot of folks leaving the US. But they are leaving NYC and LA and other democrat -run cities and moving to Republican -run states and cities. Crime is just one of many reasons!

No. New York is one of very few walk able communities in the entire nation that isn't some bedroom community where people only live in the town to live in in order to commute to a halfway decent job market 1hr away. Too many people live in population centers where kids won't have mobility independence until they're 3 years away from being legally able to be emancipated & thrown onto the streets when cars are expensive to purchase,own, and operate. A lot of parents are terrible so they throw their kids onto the streets when they're a year away from graduating & don't own a car. In most of America you need to work to afford gas to be able work to pay for rent & food. NYC is going to outlast Texas as a desirable place to live in since Texas is not that far off from running out of water.

With how density is constantly being increased, those rooftop water tanks is probably so that service to the building won't be interrupted by the constant upgrades and repair that probably happens. Then squatters can't carp about poor service from people who 'actually' put heart & soul into their labor . . . summer, winter, rain, snow, and expensive, local lunches.

I kind of like the unusual architectural aspects of the first two apartments, although, hanging art may be a bit of a challenge. It would be a difficult choice between the larger kitchen versus the larger living room, because I love to cook and decorate:-) The #3 apartment, I loved the deck but who'd want a construction ladder in the living room? How easy is it to put it up and take it down? Also, it might be a little scary climbing back down. (at least for me) You didn't mention an elevator, so is the 7th floor apartment a walk-up? Wow! I like being on top and It might be fun for a while but it would soon lose it's novelty once the weight of perpetual groceries set in. The "precarious pots" were extremely precarious. It's something I would like to do too but safety has to trump aesthetics in this situation. The precarious pots sort of make the enjoyment of the patios below obsolete. I can't be certain but if I had to choose my favorite unit it might be #4 because of the spacious rooms and gourmet kitchen:-) 🥀🐦🧚‍♀

So I visited nyc in about 1990. I really enjoy your videos because i live in beautiful big sky northern Arizona and wont ever get back. Love the creative hideaway apartments. Live in a closet with a few million people. No thanks ☺️ 🤷‍♀️

Maybe the over crowding for NYC makes you think these are deals but the prices and the space you actually get are insane...In a southern state you can rent a $2,000 sq. ft. free standing home for about $1,000-$1500 monthly. Or if you're creative with how you live you can buy steel Quonset buildings at $14 per sq. ft. So the same size free standing house for $28,000! Ya still gotta buy land, have it insulated, pour a concrete pad, plumbing, electrical, HVAC. But a shit load cheaper.

I like all these apts. I wouldn't have a roommate and just use the lower levels for office or something.
