Blowing up a common $1500 car, with untested performance parts isn't that stupid and could just be plain fun. Doing it 3 hours before a flight without a backup ride on hand knowing your wife can't be contacted, that's the stupid part.

I personally believe the traction control killed your motor. If you would have disabled it I think the wheels would have spun and possibly kept your motor from blowing up. I drive a 2nd gen Prius. As soon as the tires slip it cuts all power out.

You'll probably never see this, but nitrous oxide works primarily by providing additional oxygen to the engine's combustion. At smaller levels ("shots") the ECU and fuel injectors can compensate, but at higher levels you need to add fuel at the same time ("wet shot"). The cooling effect you mention in the video is basically irrelevant compared to the extra oxygen. The reason why we use nitrous oxide instead of pure oxygen is two-fold 1) nitrous oxide will only start to react with things when it gets really hot (over 1000F) so it's very safe, unlike oxygen which will react even at insanely cold temperatures. 2) nitrous oxide will turn into a liquid at sane temperatures and pressures, with liquids being about 100x more dense than gasses. This means you can hold 100x more nitrous oxide than oxygen in the same size container.
