Join me on this solo fishing trip as I get a massive catch of big green fish! Graeme decides on a quest to search out the famous GREEN fish of Britain...known as the Tench, or Doctor Fish, as its slime was supposed to have healing properties. He stops off at a Gloucestershire gravel pit and filming and fishing entirely solo he takes you through his trip, right up to groundbaiting, rigs used and some of his old school techniques. The bites start off slow but as soon as the light level drops the fish come out to play. He uses basic hookbaits of worms and maggots, but adds his own secret twist to baiting up that soon has him netting fish. Part 1 is over an hour long, so pull up your footrest, pour a bevvy and let Graeme take you fishing with him...Enjoy!

Just love your videos. Fished when I was young. Maybe 30+ years ago. Done a bit of sea fishing when I go on holiday to Devon. Had a nice summer in Devon and caught some nice pollock off a boat which got me the bug back. Had a week at a small lake on a caravan park in Essex, roach and Rudd on a waggler. It’s all I could remember from years ago. Those around me where fishing carp - catching very little, while I was getting loads. Can’t wait to get out again - and your videos are entertaining and instructional. And I’m now 53, it’s been at least 30 years since I managed to go out - family stuff got in the way, and it became a fond memory. What you do is rekindle those memories. Keep up the great work.

Hey Graeme, another enjoyable session. These long videos of overnighters especially, really put me in mind of the films I used to love as a kid that were made by Jack Hargreaves. There’s an ‘old world charm’ that you simply don’t get now, most angling videos are more like sales pitches and exercises in fish per minute. One thing I do wonder and think may be the case; do you feel as though you are fishing not alone but with the company of those that will be watching the edited and posted trip? Anyway, fantastic stuff and thanks for the efforts.

Im glad I kept things like this as a reminder of the good old days, the same as I kept my 7 foot sea fishing white "pier" rod! that I used to use when my granddad took for carp fishing with him llol

I always find I take the most gear with me when I go chasing the big bream on reservoirs. My rods, tackle, bivvy, bed, food and all the usual stuff is the fairly standard barrow load but it's the tons of bait that really adds to the weight. Taking 10kg+ of groundbait, a big sack of pellets, a couple of kilo of corn, pints of maggots, casters, worms and a few tins of meat requires a whole other long walk round the lake but if you want to keep the attention of a big roving shoal of large bream entertained long enough to reap the rewards you've really got to shovel the bait in.
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 3 жыл бұрын
I remember that with the Irish Bream back in the early 1970's...saying was.."Irish Bream are only loyal to them that feeds them "....The shoals were so immense they would plough through half a sack of maize in 24 hours. Good days..I wonder if its like that over there now ?

@@TAFishing from what I understand the fishing in Ireland is a shadow of its glory days for various reasons. The fluff flinging is still as popular as ever but the coarse fishing has somewhat fallen by the wayside. If you ever find yourself on holiday in the region of bude/Barnstaple I can point you in the direction of some enormous roach and bream, wrong coast of the county for a guided tour but I can point you in the right direction.
@awilderireland
@awilderireland 2 жыл бұрын
I'm afraid the coarse fishing is but a shadow of its former self. Of course there are always places off the beaten track but... Some of the reasons: A lot of poaching took place due to high levels of immigration from countries who eat coarse fish. Also Bream have become much scarcer due to the spread of roach as have our beautiful Rudd and Rudd/Bream hybrids. After the initial spread of roach to almost everywhere in the 70's and 80's it has settled down. The problem now is we are left with roach/bream hybrids as the dominant species instead of true bream. Where you do find shoals of bream they tend to be of a smaller size than in the past. The days of massive shoals of slabs averaging 4 or 5 lbs are largely gone. The spread of zebra mussels has led to clear water in lakes that were previously cloudy. In some waters the bream are still there but night fishing is your best bet. As I said there are always places off the beaten track and waters where there is decent fishing for hybrids. But Bream and Tench aren't as easy to find as they once were. We have some commercial fisheries now. Something I thought I would never see! But it is still a great place to find natural waters. You just need to keep your expectations in check. We still get some UK Anglers coming over. Many have been coming since the old days. And often come for the craic as much as the fishing. I think two factors reduced the numbers coming over. The poorer fishing and the advent of the carp and commercial scene in the UK. Not many want to haul tackleboxes and bait over styles and fields like in the old days. Of course we have plenty of venues where you can park up and fish. But you probably get my drift.

Agree Borderlands, but rods and reels that are a joy to use aren't expensive anymore. When I worked as a Saturday lad in a tackle shop I was buying team daiwa float rods and stradic carp rods. They still do me well to this day. But no longer so you need to spend £150 on a rod to get a good action, £60 these days can buy great handling rods.
@borderlands6606
@borderlands6606 3 жыл бұрын
@@robfnet I don't think Graham's tackle is too bad, it's just well used. A lot of rod blanks are generic with different fittings as the price goes up. He (and I) come from an era where you repaired things, now people simply buy another one. Very few people did that in cane days, a quality rod and reel was a serious investment for a working man. Watercraft has been replaced by branding and cookie cutter tactics. Graham's gear may have seen better days but his thinking is spot on.

Just looked at the website for the lakes, seems very reasonably priced.

I think it is for the fish that are in there. Mind you I was there last night trying to get a big Tench on the large lake,failed miserably,but had some cracking Rudd..Its the way it is with fishing..every trip is different.

Good vid keep it up. Question. What’s ur PB carp and catfish?

Carp I think was a 35lb River Mirror,its in the trailer,Cat I think was 122 or something.Biggest we had on the trip was 180lbs. What we call a 3-man lift for the camera. But don't get me wrong, don't class me a specimen hunter ,I appreciate any fish,whatever the size,I don't go round taregeting the biggest fish,my head would get cross threaded with boredom and disappointment. Depends what each person classes as a "big" fish. Once you have crossed the 1000lb barrier the term "big" really starts to take a back seat. Its all relative. Enjoy each one.
