4:20 It swapped because an American company did market research, by putting infants in play rooms where half room was blue and the other pink, the observed male infants tended to the blue side, and females more to the pink. So they ran with that for marketing. There are some issues as I think they're were toys in there as well and I forget the specifics. Lydia's probably right about the market blue and pink to move away from neutral colors gets them more money. Prior to this yellow and white was neutral, pink technically red scolors were preferred for boys because it was seen as more aggressive and blue for girls as it was as more subdued.

As languages evolve, one of the things that evolve with them is comprehension of colour - pink used to be considered just "light red" (in a similar way to how Italian differentiates between blue ["blu"] and light blue. ["azzurro"] as completely separate colours, while we don't) and red was considered aggressive/bloody and therefore the colour of boys, whereas blue was considered passive and calming and therefore the colour of girls.
