Just came to me and it all fits. Jill said Catherine appeared out of nowhere. Catherine said she was a Devils fan. Jesse was in need of a job and she not only got him the interview, but also helped him along the way. The interview prep, telling him which door to go to when the main ones were locked, doing the right thing for the old guy in the room, telling him the answer that he closed it himself. Catherine IS the devil who works there. And by giving her his name and accepting her help to get this job that solves all his problems, Jesse sold his soul to her.

That was probably the best rules story I've heard. Normally I find them real cringe inducing. The stories being constructed around the rules like a tent skin over poles that leave the guts of the tale hollow and empty. This was quite different. Certainly not earth shattering but very well written and nicely constructed. The more I think of it the more I like it. There were some really good ideas in there that distracted me from the rule genre. Well done to the writer, your narration as always perfect. You must be very happy to have found such rewarding employment, I hope the author is able to claim the same , if not now you certainly will in the future if you keep at it. Cheers both.

You know what sucks, Katherine helped dude get the job, but now he's going to ghost her. She might not even know that that's rule 1, and has been wondering for years why every time she helps someone get the money and the job they leave her high and dry. He couldn't follow the rules, but I bet he follows that one. Never talking to the person that actually helped him...

This is amazingly confusing... How's the manager telling him not to talk to Kat, when it was Kat who told him (Robert) about his friend... She told him he's full name and address... Wtf is going on?????

No disrespect to the author but this was one rules story I could not get in to. "Rules" horror stories are best when the rules are small, self contained bits of horror rather an a list of literal rules to follow. "If you hear a woman screaming for help and banging on the door do not open it" creates mystery and a bit of a scary situation. Coming through the south side door and putting your phone in a basket does not.

I worked in two five star resorts. 80% of the job is looking the other way when celebrities walk by or when weird and sometimes criminal stuff happens. But the only thing wrong about the story is the money isn’t that much better

This story has some great twist and turns. Like so many others, I think a continuation of this story would be a great “sit on the edge of my chair” story never knowing what is going to happen next. Hat 🎩 tip to this author and the narration was spot on in building up the suspense. Well done to both.

This one made me so much more on edge than usual… it’s all well and good to have a list of ominous rules, but when the reality you find yourself in doesn’t even seem to conform to those rules… well.

@@LighthouseHorrorlol I’d have felt too challenged to not give my all in order to get the job, tho i seriously question if id take it. Money doesn’t make my world turn. Depends on gut reaction to others. I have flipped out on a woman who had manhandled her child in Walmart soooo I’m not someone who is keeping my mouth shut when I see anything untoward

That never speak to Catherine rule shouldn’t count outside the hotel. That could happen to anyone and everyone. That’s probably how the hotel gets employees in the first place. Plus didn’t his friends girlfriend talk to her too?
