I just found out my dog of 14 years has cancer, there is nothing the vets can do for him. Everyday is a struggle for us. He is literally the reason, I started watching you. I wanted to build him a cute bed, that was our first video watching you and Cali. You really inspire me through this dark time and give me hope. Thank you.

I love you and this is so cute, but you may want to secure that run roof with something a bit more sturdy. As someone who’s seen friends lose chickens to predators that got in thru the edge of the coop, make sure your corners are super secure. 👍🏼 blessings

Your chicken coop is one of the most estheticly pleasing I've ever seen, I've followed farm videos in the past but yours has so much love put into each project, that it gives me such a warm feeling inside. Only thing I did learn is that you don't need to have a rooster, and although cute cock-a-doodles now, it might get on your nerves later down the line...😂❤

Maybe ranching with some diy is more your "thing" instead if only diy - ing? I love, love, love this vid and I love, love, love to see you this way. Just relaxed and no need to "having" to do or finish a project. Marvelous!❤️❤️❤️

This video is special. Seeing you honor Cali and yourself is how your healing begins. Within the room that you are working on it may need a spiritual cleansing, perhaps a shrine to Cali. Something simple, in order to release any uncomfortably sad feelings. Then when you are ready, it can be moved. Please be careful with the wolves. If you can, begin to fence in your property.

Rosters tend to do that when the weather is about to change as well. It could be sunny and then wind brings in the clouds. Your rooster will let you know. 30mins to an hours and a half before.

My family and I lost our little pupper, Toto, to acute kidney failure on Christmas morning. The vets let us know there was no way we'd have known and that he was not scared in the end, but the wave after wave of thinking he's still here when he isn't is deflating. We're all heartbroken, but we loved him so much for ten wonderful years. Callie had the best dog mom in you, and it's warming to see your inspiration from her soar ❤

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved Cali 💔 I recently lost a cat and while I was grateful to have been beside him for his last days/moments, it was traumatic to go through alone and the clean-up of all the blood (he had a seizure at the end) was rough. It just breaks my heart that you had a similar experience 🫂 and I wish you nothing but healing, and hopefully some happy chickens and lots of eggs in your future.

Love the coop and the critters. You will find the hens to be very loving. Rooster testosterone is very evident. MEN!! Total don't mess with me attitude. One of my neighbor's hens would break out to visit me. I named her, Marie after my grandmother. Grandma taught me everything about chickens. Marie was so loving. She just pooped everywhere. I didn't care. Good luck with your new babies! I'm sure they will be loved well. This cheered me up for I lost my Baby Hoss right before Christmas. He was 21 years old. Being three hours ahead, I missed seeing this when you posted it. You go girl. You’re moving through the darkness of grief and coming back into the light. Five chickens is a good number. At peak laying age they will lay once a day during the longest days of year. That five eggs a day, can you eat that many? Before others comment about selling yes you might be able to but don’t count on it. If you do, people liked them washed that’s a process that will take time. I’ve done it all I had as many as 100 chickens at one time. Feed isn’t cheap, yes free raining is nice, especially if you want to lose them to predators. The desert doesn’t offer enough to just free range. Lots of thoughts for you. Know what you’re getting into, that way you will succeed. You can do anything, you’ve proven that. Just be aware it isn’t what many people think it is. I’m down to about a dozen and that’s too many. Remember too that they won’t lay in the short winter months. One last caution, don’t leave the feed out. Leave extra in a metal trash can. Otherwise rats will find you and yes they will. You wanted fertile eggs? You might have chicks which is fun.
@LivingtoDIYwithRachelMetz

I kinda got swindled with the rooster haha. And I got them because I'm getting back into baking as well so that many eggs is perfect to keep my recipes flowing.
@lechatbotte.
@lechatbotte. 8 ай бұрын
@@LivingtoDIYwithRachelMetz oh lawd I’ve done that. I do believe you’re right about the amount. Beware about free range. You do have hawks and they find chicken on their menu. I’ve lost a good rooster to an eagle and chickens to raccoons and hawks. Chicken wire keeps chickens in but not predators out. You might consider running sections of wire around the perimeter buried 3-4 “ coyotes etc like to dig. Just some hints from someone who’s been there. It’s going on 14 yrs now.
@autumnmott24
@autumnmott24 8 ай бұрын
@@lechatbotte.big yes to burying the wire! Coyotes and other predators will dig for a good meal. As to all the other commetors suggesting ways to better secure the coop, take all their advice and then go beyond what you think is reasonable. I can promise you snakes, and other creatures will find a way in. Idk if you have racoons, but if so, you'll need to get better locks on the outside doors, as they're clever and can open most simple locks.

I used to have chickens. I had 26 at one point. I tell everyone, if you want to laugh ever day, get a chicken. Now having said that, your biggest worries will be predators. Including dogs. Blaze is *very* interested in the chickens so I know you're probably working with her on that one. My neighbor's dogs came down and killed 18 of my chickens once. It was a massacre. We ended up in court and everything. So you really need to make sure you're extra secure. I'd put a top on the run and cover the chicken wire with something stronger. Don't waste it, you can put it on the outside so a coyote or dog can dig under the fence. Racoons are also a worry. I don't know if you get them there but racoons are a-holes. They'll just kill the chickens and eat the head and leave the rest. Hopefully you can get the point that they can free range, that was really enjoyable for us. (we had 2 acres). If you want them to range in the little garden, you'll need a high fence and to clip their wings (just one side). they'll also eat ALL your pretty plants. lol. Congrats on your chickies. you can tell how happy they make you.

Your coop is so dreamy! I suggest digging and burying hardware cloth or cinder blocks around the base of your run and coop to stop the coyotes and foxes from digging in. Bury it under ground like an L.
