Disaster Movie Movie Description:
During a fateful night, a group of impossibly attractive 20-somethings (Matt Lanter, Vanessa Minnillo, Kim Kardashian) must dodge a series of man-made and natural disasters. Twisters, asteroids, earthquakes and singer Amy Winehouse are just some of the perils they face while trying to make their way to safety.
Disaster Movie is a 2008 American apocalyptic science fiction superhero comedy film written and directed by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer and produced by Peter Safran, Friedberg, and Seltzer. It stars Matt Lanter, Vanessa Minnillo, Gary "G Thang" Johnson, Crista Flanagan, Nicole Parker, Ike Barinholtz, Carmen Electra, Tony Cox, and Kim Kardashian in her feature film debut. It was released on August 29, 2008, by Lionsgate. The film is mainly a parody of the disaster film genre, although it also references many other films, TV shows, people, and pop culture events of the time.
The film was panned by critics and audiences for its forced adult humor, excessive pop culture references, and poor directing, with many considering it to be the worst movie directed by Seltzer and Friedberg, as well as one of the worst films of all time, and it is the lowest rated film on IMDb. The movie received six nominations for the 29th Golden Raspberry Awards. But it became a box-office success, grossing nearly $35 million against a budget of $20 million.

I haven't seen this movie since it was in theaters. I remember the younger me laughing my ass off, but watching it now, I gotta ask the younger me what the hell was I on when I watched this. Just random blatant cameos, dragged-out "jokes", and reaction shots. At least your reaction was enjoyable.

I feel like if Friedberg and Seltzer were still making movies today, they’d use a title like that to spoof the entirety of the MCU and DCEU and it would’ve been released in like 2020. It’d just feature your average Friedberg and Seltzer “jokes” while also relying on things happening pop culture and memes from around 2018-2019 as “gags” and would’ve been the funniest movie for anyone that’s an edgy 12-15 year old who thinks dark humor equals being over the top offensive.

Yes! Date Movie much like all parody movies from this era. Has a lot of referential humor. So if you don't know the references it's not funny. But at least Date Movie has some actual jokes and not just "get the reference?" Punch line.

Every joke is just "Hey look, it's celebrity" then they will proceed to fart/burp or do something gross, and/or get kicked in the balls, then it will cut away to something else. It's the lowest form of comedy, devoid of any thought or creativity.

Unlike Disaster Movie, which hardly makes fun of any disaster movies and is just a bunch of pop culture references thrown out one after the other. It’s still not very good, but it at least stayed consistent with what it was trying to parody.

I remember first seeing this on Cinemax as a freshman in high school, and I remember laughing but also consciously thinking, "wow, this was Bad...". I think my fav part in this reaction was 19:30 because I couldn't stand how this parody version didn't shut up. I FELT this. Favourite mix parody movie like this is Date Movie. Favourite just straight parody movie from 2000s (bc any of Mel Brooks are top for me) is Vampires Suck. If you want to try to get Paramount (or whoever) to accept a pitch from you for a Hancock 2 movie, this is what you have to do. Step 1) Write the screenplay. Step 2) Write a Query Letter, including the synopsis of your script, asking producers to read your script. Step 3) Send your Query Letter out to absolutely EVERYONE. Step 4) Send your screenplay to everyone who writes back, asking to read the script. Step 5) Send a copy of your Query Letter and your Acceptance Letter to Will Smith, asking him to read the screenplay. Step 6) If Will Smith asks to read the screenplay, send your Query Letter to Paramount (or whoever owns the rights to the Hancock movie) along with copies of your acceptance letters from the production companies and Will Smith. If the owners of the Hancock movie are shown that there is a likelihood of milking this IP for more money, and that producers want to take on the financial burden of making the movie, and that the star of the original movie wants to make a sequel, then there’s a much greater chance of them getting on board. Of course, if they say “No”, then the project would be dead in the water because without the IP owners being on board, there’s no movie (unless the production companies or Will Smith were to pay for permission to use the IP, aka licensing the IP). IP owners will often refuse to license their property, but if the person offering to license it from them is well known enough, and/or rich enough, then there is a chance. As they say, “Money walks, BS talks.”

Just a tip, Mell, you always encourage ppl to comment but never incentivize them to, do a quick 30-60 second reading of a few replies who answered a question from your last vid. Ppl will be more inclined to comment an answer to your question if they can get excited at the idea of you maybe reading it out and responding to their answer. This wave of parody filmmakers missed the whole point on what made previous spoofs funny; the old writers and directors had a degree of reverence for the genres they were spoofing. Mel Brooks liked John Ford westerns and Universal monster movies, Zucker and Abrams liked disaster films and police procedurals, and the Wayans brothers liked blaxploitation and slasher films. They were taking the sillier elements of those and just amplifying it. The Epic Movie/Disaster Movie people just scanned the new release section and their DVRs and cynically just cram references into their films. No passion, no reverence just “Hey, this is a thing that exists, and now there’s a dick joke.” It’s lazy, stupid, dated 3 weeks after you see it, and a complete waste of time.

Back then it was rly funny, when I watched it with my gf. Re-watching it nowadays I can see how lot of it is actually not as good and all over the place. BUT!! ... there is ONE scene that still makes me laugh my ass off today and that is the one at 18:18 . 😂😂😂 It's just too good, i love it hahaha! Also I never watched Juno but I liked her character in this movie, just the way she weirdly talks and gives comments in unexpected situations, while at the same time kicking ass in fights. ^^

Some of my favorite comedies are from broken lizard(super troopers, beer fest, club dread people) the movies with Simon Pegg and nick frost, shaun of the dead, the world's end, hot fuzz. A happy Madison movie called grandmas boy

I’ve never seen this movie and this is as close as I’ll ever get to watching it. Holy crap, it’s awful. Seven minutes in and there’s been barely any actual jokes. It’s just “Hey, remember that one movie or pop culture thing?!”

Bro I remember watching the chipmunks scene with my whole family in the room (I was like 7 years old). It literally scared me shitless when the jump scare close up of Alvin popped up on the screen. I swear it gave me PTSD for like a few years. Not scary anymore, but it still makes me uncomfortable
