Want to send me some stuff? Or keep in touch? My PO BOX is below:
Extreme Philly Fishing, P.O. BOX 7019, Philadelphia, PA, 19149
December 5th, 2016 -- After 5 years of fishing in and around Philadelphia, another odd story to share with you guys! But before anything else, here are the hyperlinks that I have mentioned in the video:
Pastorius Park Dog bite story:
www.chestnuthilllocal.com/2016...
Pastorius Park fishkill story:
www.chestnuthilllocal.com/2016...
Anyways...as always, Extreme Philly Fishing decided to hit a new watershed to do a full Multi-Species fishing assessment. My first time ever in Chestnut Hill, I decided to hit Pastorius Park for some Catfish and Carp! After hearing the news of a fish kill that happened there this past Summer, I was really really curious to see if anything was still alive in there.
So...there was Leo, fishing for some good old fish in a PUBLIC PARK, when suddenly...some angry residents decided to kick me out because "fishing is not welcome in the community."
P.s. Make sure you read the afterword in this video, so you know the purpose of it.
Gear used in this video:
Rod: Daiwa Spinmatic, Ultra-light, 5'6", 2 pieces (amzn.to/2g3MJbd*); St. Croix Avid Pearl, Medium-Light, 6'6", 2 pieces (amzn.to/2epFaKH*); and Daiwa Samurai, medium-light, 6'6", 2 pieces (bit.ly/2fGFt0x)

John Price yes which is punishable by at least a fine if not more. if it were in federal waters it could lead to jail time. these people are clueless. there should be signs telling them to stop harrassing fishermen, keep their dogs on a leash, and let the city or state stock the pond because they don't own it. if the pond was good, the fish populations would sustain themselves.

Only if the water is linked to a natural water supply and they can get out, might it be considered invasive. Many park ponds are designed as ornamental waters. One should expect gold fish in ornamental waters - more readily gold fish than any other specie. No true angler would even dream of fishing an ornamental which this one so obviously is.

I was followed by the cops, for riding my mountain bike on some trails, in the woods, in a public park, in Maryland. I asked why they were stopping me, they said because I was acting suspicious. I asked how so, they said I kept going around the one mile loop😂🤣🤣😆. I said, oh, that's not allowed??? Then came the back pedaling on their part, "well that section over there is typically very crowded with bird watchers, you may be scaring their birds if you keep riding through..." Lol... , I said, oh, over there, where no one is...😂😆 I love gentrified society. It's less about you fishing, than about you being a stranger, in their "public park" I woulda called the cops on them, for harassment ,and no leash laws. Always get name, rank, and serial number of the commanding authorities bugging you,it instantly scares them off. Learn the local police chiefs name, or some political figures names, before you go into communities, then name drop, see how badass ms.big pants aesthetics thinks she is then😁

They are not native fish and the fish that are native to this area cannot survive with these fish in there so therefore they are destroying the ecosystem of this pond. Whoever put them in there was breaking the law. I'm not sure about Pennsylvania but in most states you need a permit to put fish in any body of water, even if it's on your own property. Try putting any fish in a lake in New Jersey and get caught and see what happens to you.

Leo your professionalism during someone who was clearly fabricating a story was amazing. Living in PA and fishing many bodies of water I have seen this is more common than most would believe. In the future I would recommend reaching out to the authorities. this is harassment. The state of Pennsylvania licensed you to fish. at this location. Keep up the great work and keep being a great ambassador to us Pennsylvanians as well as to fisherman all over the world.

Unless given express permission. Often times around my area you'll see a public pond and they've given the locals permission to put a few goldfish in it. We actually have a nature reserve about 5km (excuse the heathen units) from my house that they let the locals put goldfish and koi in.

I really respect the way that you fish and how you react to people, especially these types, and their opinions on fishing. It was very mature of you to leave out of courtesy, while fishing there is legal. Though you could have stayed and they couldn't do anything about it, that was a great example of how you should avoid conflicts over fishing and the residents that don't agree with you.

A friend of mine owns a house and some property that borders a golf resort in Florida. Between the two is a pond that he owns, and the banks around it. He allows the neighborhood kids to fish there if they promise to catch and release, but the golfers are always trying to kick the kids off the property and get butt hurt when someone fishes there. I don't know what there problem is, but they can be aggressive at times. We were having a BBQ and some beer and they tried to kick him and me off his own property when we were catching some bluegill there. It was not a pretty sight.

I had a similar thing happen to me while fishing in one of the local parks around my area. Maple Park in Currituck County NC is the name of the place if you ever want to check it out. It actually used to be a landfill until everything was covered over with dirt and properly sanitized. After they had dug out the area to cover the old landfill they decided to stock the pond they had created with local fish like small and large mouth bass, bluegill, red breast sunfish, green sunfish, different types of shiners, and white and yellow perch. They allowed people to fish there as long as they did catch and release. Sadly it has mostly been taken over by turtles so almost every cast you do with live bait on it gets attacked by the turtles, but I digress haha. Well one day I was fishing there when an older lady came up who happened to be feeding the geese, and told me that she was going to call the cops on me because I wasn't allowed to fish there. Her reasoning was that this was private property. I calmly explained to the woman that this was in fact not private property but property owned by the state and maintained by the county. I was free to fish there as long as I did catch and release. She wasn't pleased by this response and actually called the cops. A sheriff's deputy showed up and explained to her that fishing there was in fact legal, and that the county actually encourages it. I told the deputy that I didn't want to cause any trouble and that if it meant that much to her I would leave. She got mad at me for this and called me a "condescending little prick." I simply laughed it off got my poles out of the water and left. She only stayed for about another 10 minutes anyway, and I had already decided to wait her out and just go back whenever she left.
