FWI, i designed and guided construction on this skatepark. The reason park was not open is 2 people fell in the big 12 foot concrete bowl a year before this filming happened and that closed it for safety reasons. But saying that, only 2 sections of the park have ever been opened, this section this guy rode has never opened anyway. I rode the whole park which was fun. However they park was built by the cheapest local construction company and concrete quality and workmanship is bad. I had no say in those matters. Thats China. Parks these days in China ae generally getting better quality for the larger ones are trying to follow Olympics type standards if possible.

Thank you so much for this!! Will pin this on top. So people get a bit more info about it. Everything you said makes total sense. I worked with a skatepark company for a while and know frustrating can be when something is projected by us, and build by someone else without the same experience. Thank you

How about Europe if someone get injured at a unmanagement skate park do they have any chance sue the government and get a huge compensation?

what's even funnier is guarding a skatepark that is already deteriorated. if they are hiring guards to guard it, why not cleaners to clean it? if i were a guard there, i'd just clean it since you get bored doing nothing most of the time. its like guarding a swimming pool for years but not repairing it, but that defeats the purpose of a swimming pool, its for the people to swim in it, not just to close it and a skatepark is wayy easier to maintain than a swimming pool (to throw my point across). maybe it was a typhoon issue that messed up the place recently?? i tell you, the skater community would actually come together and clean up the place for free. i have such faith in us skaters. im sure people would travel across the world just to help clean it, if someone made a deal about this on reddit for example, but nope. its locked down, guarded, nope.

I thought it was kind of funny when that first Chinese woman was trying to say “do not intrude” and Ricardo didn’t understand because she speaks more formal and better English than many of us do. As an American, I thought that was pretty funny. It reminds me of the time I was traveling through England on a train and these English kids in my car were being friendly and started talking to me. I thought I would be so relieved to finally be speaking with people who spoke my language after having been traveling through French and German speaking Switzerland on a hiking trip. And I hardly understood a word these British kids were saying. LOL

from what i experienced in China, the people are actually friendly and do not have ill will, eventhough the guard that chased you out didnt seem the nicest, i can assure you he do not have bad things in the heart, just part of his orders probably and he couldnt speak chinese at all, and you're a foreignor, he didn't want to disrespect you but there is not much else he could say. i am a chinese myself but more culturally english. you have to understand, some parts, even the city, there will have many citizens who cant speak english at all. only in recent years they started improving as a country, and economically. but the older generations, english is not a norm at all. i can't speak mandarin myself, but i wish there was someone to help you and ask what is the matter and why is it closed. actually, it wont be any harm since you risk more injury to yourself than the property actually, they shouldn't be too much concerned. northern of china is actually very beautiful and colder. i hope this experience do not deter you from visiting again, at least other parts of China. seba for example has huge activity there, and a lot of other organisations. inline skating is very big there compared to many other countries, i would say the numbers of skaters and events level can equal to that of france. if you cant skate in the park, im sure you can go throughout the city, GMdiaries style of greg mirzoyan. you need a guide though. with the proper group, i'm sure your experience will be very fun, cuz the food and everything is very cheap, there are a lot of outdoor bazaar shopping to do and chinese people are great and hospitable. so i do hope you visit again, try going to the city like tianjin and beijing, the major cities, during Chinese new year. the cities will be Very empty as many will return to their respective families in their villages. it would be so quiet and empty, then you can skate around with great weather. i hope you do visit again. what i like about skating is, its fun and it can be a part of exploration/travel. best regards.

I feel your enthusiasm, going this skatepark to skate, no gate will hold you back if you came this far! also quite sad that outdoor parks can be closed? just how?

So sad, maybe 'too big to fail' does not apply to skate parks. Can somebody add translation of chinese?

Bro, they say it's forbidden. But you could probably stay there if you were local or if you could speak some Chinese. Not sure if they were gards or policemen, but they probably kicked you out cause if you get hurt not being able to speak Chinese, you'll be really fucked up.

The questions i have, why build it and not maintain it? and more importantly why employ minimum 5 security guards to stop people using it? something seems waaay off...

what a bummer. not only is the park empty but it's also closed and you can't skate (makes sense, since it's closed) but why close it in the first place? :D maybe google bought the park. everything they touch, goes to waste

I speak Cantonese and Mandarine. I can't make out what those security guards are saying. Instead of letting the place rot, it should be open to the public for recreational purpose.
