What to do when you're laid off from your job? Across the world, companies are going through restructurings and laying off thousands of people, especially in the tech sector. I was recently laid off from my job as a product manager, and in this video, I'm sharing a day in the life after being laid off, how I'm feeling, and what I'm doing next. If you were affected, then I hope that this video is helpful for you. It's a crazy time we're living in, that's for sure. :)

Who am I?
I'm Katharina, 25 and I currently live in Berlin, Germany. I used to work as a product manager at a scale-up company. After being laid off, I'm now exploring what's next: whether that's product management or something else... I'm documenting the journey of experimenting with the things I'm curious about on this channel

You seem very positive. I think that's important. I recently got laid off from a company that I worked for 15 years so it's been tough to process, especially because I have a family and mortgage to pay off. Good time to think about the next steps. Good luck with your next step!

Thank you! Yes definitely important 🙌 but I also recognise that I could ‘afford’ to be more positive about it because I don’t have a mortgage to pay off or kids plus in Germany you typically get a few months salary after they lay you off which helps. And seeing it as a new start in your working life helps as well of course 😊

Good reflection. I understand you. I'm living the same process. However, the most relevant is to stay focused on your faith and believe that you are not alone, and must be brave in facing the upcoming steps until the next opportunity appears. Also, as you mentioned in your video, please stay tuned to your career path and next steps. I'm also a product and project manager, and the market has been rough.

Hi Katharina, sorry to hear that. I can empathize with you completely as I have been in that situation. Important thing focus on your mental and physical health and meet friends and family regularly. Just have faith in yourself and I am sure better career prospects are on your way.

Be positive and enjoy the time life gave to rest not to worry. Look at me I would like to work as Junior developer just for experience with out 1 penny. I couldn't even got that. I am living with feelings that this world is working against me day a night. Be brave enjoy it

Hallo Katharina, ich mag deine videos sehr!! Wie bist du so gut in Englisch geworden? Du sprichst wie ein native speaker!! Wirst du der IT Branche den Rücken kehren? Ich bin gerade dabei eventuell als PO im Bereich Justizanwendungen zu arbeiten. Bin aber noch unsicher, ob ich es machen soll, da ich Angst habe, dass der Job sehr stressig ist (wegen den Sprints und Releases). Stimmt das? Deine meinung dazu würde mir sehr weiterhelfen! Alles Gute für deine Neuorientierung! Und mach bitte weiter mit den Videos 😍

Hallo Antonia, vielen Dank für deinen lieben Kommentar! Ich bin in Australien für 10 Jahre aufgewachsen deswegen bin ich wie ein native speaker 🙈 Denke nicht dass ich der IT Branche komplett den Rücken kehren werde aber bin dabei noch ein paar andere Dinge parallel auszutesten :) Und ja PO zu sein kann schon sehr stressig sein. Aber es kommt glaub ich total drauf an was du für eine Person bist und wie du mit Stress umgehst. Wenn du von Anfang an eine gute ‘Work Life’ balance priorisierst und auch sonst gut priorisieren kannst und auch mal ‘nein’ sagen kannst dann geht das schon! Ist auf jeden Fall auch ein sehr spannender Job. Viel Erfolg damit 🙏😊

That’s not something I feel comfortable sharing :) but you can look up product manager salaries in Berlin and that might give you an idea.

You still looking? I was laid off a month ago but getting severance pay for 2 months. I have applied to many jobs and no interviews.. some leads so I’m hopeful. Also 25 btw 😅

Maintain status quo as far às your beliefs are concerned. Don't fall into the religious trap especially islam. It's a cult which will destroy your life and there is no going back.
