Though my travel vlog took an unexpected turn at the Mainz Cathedral, my first Europe solo female travel attempt was actually pretty successful. Love seeing Marktplatz, Kirschgarten, and exploring the coffee shops of Mainz, Germany. I highly recommend visiting Mainz and Mainzer Dom (aka the Mainz Cathedral) if you're ever in that area of Germany. Kirschgarten is one of the cutest (and historically fascinating) areas ever, though, I totally felt like I was in Vail while I was there. This was a great place to have my first European solo travel experience and I'd definitely suggest it as a great place for other female travelers who are looking for travel destinations. I felt quite safe despite not knowing any German or really having any idea where I was going. The Marktplatz was such a central location and the Mainz Cathedral peeking up over the rooftop made it easy to navigate.

Unsure. Likely something in Trier, the oldest city in Germany, which was originally a Roman city. Either the ancient Roman baths or....the Porta Nigra (the Black Gate) - the ancient Roman city gate. My mother went to university in Trier, the oldest city in Germany. Coincidentally, i went to university in Nacogdoches, the oldest city in Texas. I only JUST NOW realized that bizarre connection.

There are tons of old buildings in St. Augustine, Florida. The nation’s oldest city. You should check it out.

You did an AWESOME job of stumbling around eating your way through Germany! Rouladen are great! I actually made like 20 of them from scratch about a week ago for a fancy dinner party! They're thin minlanesa-style cut slices of steak, salted, and covered in mustard, pickle relish, bacon, and onions, and then rolled up and cooked in/eventually topped with gravy. They ARE in fact the type of thing my/your oma (grandmother) would make! Ritter Sport is awesome chocolate. I love ALMOST every flavor of it. And, man, there are a LOT of flavors.... Those big boxes with a wide selection of tiny chocolate bars (I forget what they're called) are great too. Love those. Oh, yea. Merci. It says it on the box you're holding. Duh. I'm unfamiliar with the waffle thing you ate. But yea, it's hard to go wrong with German chocolate. Those Kinder choclates you zoomed in on are all great ones. Kinder is a brand from Ferrero, the company who makes Nutella and Ferrero Rocher, and Rafaellos, and Hanuta.... Basically everything they make is amazing. Hell, German candy, cookies, cakes, etc are all just generally fantastic. Little gummy cola bottles, Haribo gummy bears, Toffifee, Maoam, Milka chocolate, black forest cake, spitzbuben, gingerbread, etc etc. 🤤🤤🤤🤤 I'm just making myself hungry now. Glad you got to wander around a legitimately medieval part of an old German city. I love those areas SO MUCH. They're gorgeous. Really feels like you're in some sort of fantasy world.

I am pretty sure your grandma knew that dish, it is Rouladen mit Spätzle, normally served with red cabbage. Rouladen is thin sliced beef, rolled (from french rouler) around a pickle and cooked in a red wine sauce. Spätzle is special for southern Germany and are a kind of fresh made egg noodles.

Glad you got to check out an old cathedral. I hope Notre Dame de Paris gets fully restored and that you get to visit THAT one day. I've been in a lot of old cathedrals and castles and palaces, but Notre Dame is absolutely surreal. The size and architecture and intricacy of the sculptures is all almost unfathomable. The facts that it was carved from stone by humans is something I can't wrap my head around. It looks like something that would require cutting-edge 2020 Hasbro 3D printing technology to make out of plastic.

I’ve actually visited Notre Dame - thankfully before the fire. Cathedrals and super old architecture blows my mind. It must take FOREVER to have built some of those buildings!

Loving German Week so far! Its all so pretty, makes me want to visit! Just curious, do you listen to Anna Blue? She’s my favorite German (and English) singer from Berlin (not sure if you were near there or not, sorry! 😅)

I was probably more scared than I shoulda been. The crypt creeped me out! 😱 and I do have a video on clear skin tips but it’s not specifically on cystic/hormonal acne. I have read lately than taking a DIM supplement can be extremely helpful, so I’m trying that right now after I threw everything outta whack taking those hair vitamins.

Sarah Ingle oh thats interesting! i’ll have to try that our sometime! everyone always told me that after 15 your acne goes away, but it really isn’t 😭 i’m too scared to go on any kind of pill for it so i guess i’ll just keep trying new things! but if it works do you think you’ll post like a review of some sort?

Great video for Ash Wednesday! I LOVE the cathedral! It's sssoooo beautiful! 💖✝️ You know I'm a super traddy Catholic. 😉 I wish they made more churches like that these days! Although it seemed kinda dark. I'm not sure if that was just the camera or if the cathedral was actually dark. Maybe they turn on more lights during Mass. Even though I love the old churches, I don't like it being so dark inside. Also, did you see a high altar? Just wondering. It's a little hard to tell in the video - but it could have been really far in the front of the church. And if that cathedral is over 1,000 years old (which is incredible) I bet you it is facing east. They used to build all Catholic churches facing east. And I'm so glad you were able to find a way out of the cathedral! lol. I would not want to spend the night by the crypt either. 😂 Thank you so much for sharing your trip! I loved this video! That timing worked out super well! And yeah, it was super dark in there, which made it all the more creepy getting stuck inside by the crypt. To be honest, idk if I saw a high altar because I don’t know what that would look like 😅

Sarah Ingle Lol. Yes! That would be creepy. Haha! ... From the video I could see a table type altar under the hanging crucifix. Unfortunately after Vatican II many high altars were removed from Catholic Churches or if not removed, they were not used anymore. If you Google “Catholic High Altar” you should be able to see images of a large raised altar structure that has a lot of ornamentation and where the tabernacle would be located.

So a Wasserspeier is a Gargoyle but your second word was wrong in your translation... Wasserspeier basically translates to water spitter / spewer (because the dragons in legends are often able to spew fire) ! Btw dragon means Drache in german 🐉
