Jessica Kellgren-Fozard is a deaf lesbian KZfaqr who likes the label "disabled", saying it is part of who she is and should not be seen as a bad thing.
In the first episode of the second season of #Divided, she talks about invisible disabilities, government policy, first dates, and virgin margaritas with Niall Paterson.
We will be releasing a new episode of Divided every Thursday

No one needs your pity! Even those of us who are offering constructive criticism on this video as I have! Maybe it's because I grew up with a nun who owned/run a school for the deaf, that I don't see deaf people as disabled in the slightest. I didn't grow up being taught that they were disabled at all, just that they were different.

@@lunalee8174 I think I didn't make my point clear that I don't think it's Jessicas responsibility to have captions on this video. A big media company like sky news should be able to upload a fuly captions video, especially on the topic of disability!

Marie Oh, that wasn't what I was saying at all!! I meant that since Jessica has captions up in this fashion, perhaps other channels operate similarly. I don't think she's obligated to do the captions for them; they clearly have a production team for that. It sketches me out a bit too, but I want to be optimistic.

I was scrolling through the comments looking for someone to point this out! And I'm surprised there aren't more people asking for proper subtitles... @Luna Lee Looking at all the videos on this channel, they simply don't caption their videos. I’m an able-bodied person. I don’t have any disability or diagnosis of physical ailments. I am also subscribed to Jessica and love her content, because she is genuinely a great person. The things I learn from her about disabled life and lgbtq-side of things, I take as a valuable learning opportunity. A couple years back, I might have grown uncomfortable in the presence of someone with a disability, just because I didn’t know what to expect or how to react. I treasure opportunities to become more open minded about things, to see through someone else’s eyes. And maybe I’m now a slightly more open minded person, thanks to it. I have still a lot to learn from a variety of things, but I generally try to not bash anything out of first reaction and think it through, at least. Jessica brought up many important subjects, here :)

It's stupid that some people think one can only be disabled if they're in a wheelchair or if they can't do certain "normal" things by themselves. So many people have disabilities that are not shown on the outside and so many people with disabilities can do a lot of things by themselves, some not needing help at all. But people don't consider them disabled because "they don't look disabled".

Yeah the alcohol peer pressure is real, good thing I can pretend it's a religious thing. For some illogical reason they can understand that over other reasons. Oddly enough nobody has ever tried to convert me, that wasn't a priest.

I love Jessica, her channel is such a light to my life & I try to let her know how valued she is. I have degenerative disc disease & arthritis & I've had spinal surgery.. Her videos are amazing to me. I'm her age & I almost feel like she's a role model in some ways but I wouldn't want to put that pressure on her. It's just.. She has helped me truly keep positivity in my life.

Can’t remember how I found Jessica’s channel but shes so funny and her and her wife ( -Claudia?) are hilarious together. I have some deaf friends and friends with other disabilities and her videos are educational in a way that they like too. Especially using certain words like “disabled” and not hushing the word because it makes people feel uncomfortable.

Jessica has had such an amazing impact on my life. The biggest one is not being afraid of the word disabled and understanding that it's a word that allows other people to understand me better. When I'm having a horrible day with my chronic pain I watch her, when I'm sick of explaining myself to other people I send them her videos. Shes an amazing person and I'm so happy shes getting this kind of recognition.

I feel this. I live with Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome (among other things), and I get regularly accused of lying about being disabled to make my GCSEs easier. My conditions fluctuate, I have better days and worse days, but I don't LOOK disabled. I'm always in pain, though - and I'm always HORRIFICALLY exhausted. It doesn't end, only my ability to cope changes. I'd rather people asked about me TO me instead of talking behind my back and making up their own narratives.

I love her. So intelligent and she does always lead with kindness and enjoying life ❤ Her youtube videos etc and presence educates people properly about all the things she deals with, because it's always in conjunction with who she is as a person and her interests - aka she's a real human being who exists and is kind and accepting and loves all these beautiful things and just happens to have various disabilities at the same time. She shows what it's really like to live with disabilities because she's also a real full person who lives her life fully. She's a beautiful person, inside and out ❤

I thought I had it tough. I've been battling chronic pain for eleven years. I have problems with my lumbar spine and have had three spinal fusions. But what Jessica lives with every day makes my experience pale in comparison. I wish her all the good luck and happy thoughts in the world!
