Wandering Wagners

Күн бұрын

In this episode of Wandering Wagners, we are doing things a little different! Solo Woman Gets Super C RV Stuck during travel!
While Mike had to work, Lynn decided to load up our Nexus Wraith Super C RV and get it ready for travel, then drive it down to the campground, park it, set it up and everything all on her own!
This was to prove to herself and others that it can be done, and that Women should know how to set up, travel, and tear down camp all on their own.
Everything started out great, got the Wraith ready to roll and loaded up the dogs and off we went down the interstate without Mike!
I was nervous but felt confident I could do it. We arrived at Van Buren State Park in Van Buren, OH. It was an empty park with a few inches of fresh snow on the ground. I went to back into our site when it all went sideways when I was too close to the edge of the pad and got the Wraith STUCK and buried in MUD! UGH! I can't believe I messed up the one thing i've done several times before without issues! I was so embarrassed it hurt to keep recording. haha
I called the park office, and they had to call out their maintenance man to come help to see if they could pull me out. All while Mike was at work and had no idea anything was going wrong.
About 30-40 mins later the maintenance man showed up and we conjured up a plant to pull out the Super C... if we could! He wasn't so sure his truck and tow strap would get our rig out of the mud. Luckily it was only stuck on one side so that helps.
He attached the strap and when he pulled, I mashed the throttle and BOOM out she came! PHEW! What a relief! I was so scared it wouldn't work, or it would break something on the Wraith and it would be all my fault.
Luckily that didn't happen and I finished setting up without issue.
Next I just had to wait to tell Mike what happened while he was at work. EEK!
He got to the campground when it was dark so he had no clue anything was wrong until I told him. His reaction was priceless! He laughed and couldn't believe how I could mess up something so easy haha Good Question!
The next day we went hiking and met up with Uno & Val Porter, and Dave and Andrea Fitch from ‪@FollowingtheFitchs‬ for dinner at Beer Barrel Pizza & Grille in Findlay, Ohio.
Next I finished my tour of doing everything myself and hooked up the jeep, broke camp, and drove us home all safe and sound but man, what an adventure, and as Mike put it, A Learning Experience!

Yes, we got our camper stuck in our backyard. Spring in Ohio, ground was softer than we thought and first the trailer got stuck and then the tow vehicle dug into the ground and got stuck as well. We have a lot of camping friends we've all had minor screw ups. Actually, I don't know anyone that hasn't made a mistake or two with their RV's so don't feel bad. It happens to all of us.

Girl, you got nothing to be embarrassed about. It would be hard for anyone to back up, by yourself, snow covered pad, not fully seeing where the pad stops and the snow covered grass begins . And no spotter . . . You did what you needed to do to get recovered. You are not the first person to get a rig stuck, and you won’t be the last. 9.9 times out of 10, it was a man that got it stuck. As a female who has towed exclusively for 4 years. Let me say you did fine and stuff happens. One piece of advice, always walk your site before pulling in it. Just to get a feel for the grade/levelness and look for stuff that might poke a tire. In snow you can find the edge of the site and scuff your shoe along each edge. That way when you look in your mirrors you have a guide to use backing in.

Hey, no harm done! That is what I said to myself when I locked myself out of the motorhome I was delivering from Elkhart, Indiana to British Columbia while parked at the Flying J in Beach, ND in 2008. I was so relieved when the Sheriff's deputy arrived after a 2-hour wait from his duties at an accident scene up north. I was back into the motorhome in 5 minutes after I signed the release forms saying it wasn't his fault if he broke the door/window of the motorhome, LOL. The next time I checked for keys in my pocket, I checked for both sets of keys, not just any keys before slamming the motorhome door shut at the gas pump. Fortunately, I was on the automobile side pumps and not the semi side during that trip!!! Keep up the good job, we all learn from each other so we can make our own mistakes!

@@WanderingWagners I am glad that the maintenance guy helped you! When we managed a corporate-own RV Park in central Florida, I wasn't allowed to help a guest in any way shape, or form, just was allowed to tell them to hire a wrecker due to the owner's extreme liability paranoia. If it happened once, it happened a thousand times. Someone would attend the Tampa RV Supershow to afterward trading in their little Class B or C and then without telling us try to park a new 40 foot Class A into their 30-foot long back-in "Value" Basic site upon which their rear tires would go off the parking pad gravel which buried them right down to the frame level in the soft sand. For a thousand times it was then MY FAULT that Florida has sand, MY FAULT that a "Value" Basic site was not an Elite or Deluxe site 60 feet long with all concrete, all the while long knowing that they reserved the Basic "Value" site to save $2 per day on their site. Then when you tell them they will have to pay for the broken cable TV hardline, broken water line, and wrecked power electric pedestal .... both members of the couple usually went ballistic on us. $600 to later after the big semi-wrecker pulled them out and they were parked in a replacement Deluxe all concrete pad, they apologize to us after their 3rd beer while I have 5 yards of gravel brought in to work around my maintenance crew as I replace the electric pedestal and get everyone's cable & water going again, lol. Now you wonder why I work for a concessionaire in the USFS in the mountains where there is no utility power and only us Camp Hosts having our own solar, water spigot, and sewer septic, LOL.

Things happen. No one is hurt nothing is broke. You made it there it's tough backing on snow covered ground can't always see. I use cones when I drive trucks sometimes to mark unplowed parking spots to help line it up. Reference points are a big help.

That's a great idea! There was a difference in snow color/whiteness from the ground to the pad so I thought I was good but I was too close to the edge of the pad and didn't realize the ground was so soft. Lesson learned!

With Mike being a cdl instructor, he needs to teach you GOAL ( get out and look) first off before you backed in you should have walked the campsite, than every 2 to 3 feet of backing up u should have gotten out to see where the wheels were going. And you could have re-adjusted the wrath. Now Mike needs to let you drive more when your driving together so you gain confidence.
