Hi Mark, there are actually giant varieties of passion fruit here in Brazil. Search for BRS Sol Do Cerrado or BRS Gigante Amarelo. They even have F1 seeds. They sell at stores here and are quite big. They are the sour kind of passion fruit. Good for juices

The sugarcane/sorghum scam probably works out for the best in temperate climates. There will always be that one guy that tries to grow sugarcane here in britain (hi, that's me), but growing sorghum is so much easier in colder climates and still produces a fair amount of sugar as well as grain from one harvest.

I feel like the biggest scam in overall gardening comes from hardware stores. I bought a kumquat tree from OBI (one of the biggest hobbymarkets/hardware stores in my country), the tree had fruits on it which i found very intriguing. The tree started drying up a week or two after buying it, and eventually died. The reason why it probably died was because they usually put a very unhealthy amount of fertilizer into the tree, which forces the tree to fruit early. This is why i now only buy fruit trees from certified gardening centres that actually know what they are doing. The trees that have an awful load of fertilizer in them are often destined to die shortly after. Huge money grab IMO.

Our trees keep dying within a month of buying them from hardware stores or grocery stores, too. I can only think of 3 trees that survived longer; those are years old now but 2 of them are in bad shape (probably because of bugs). 3 trees out of a dozen or more.

If you want a large species of passionfruit, you need to add Passiflora quadrangularis (giant granadilla) or Passiflora maliformis (sweet calabash) to your collection. Neither of them taste like the various Passiflora edulis varieties you commonly see grown, but they are similar, as they are from the same genus. Edulis fruits will only get so big on their own without hybridization with one of their larger cousins. People should be a little wary of Facebook, Etsy, and eBay plant and seed sellers. Not all sellers on those sites are scammers (I have sold plants on eBay, for instance) but a not insubstantial percentage of sellers are. I recommend people patronize legitimate nurseries (of which there are many great ones out there) and/or sites such as Tropical Fruit Forum, which is run by fruit growers for other fruit growers.

Mark, I love you and love your channel so I'm leaving this comment only to assist you with your stats with KZfaq which, of course, will adjust my algorithm such that I'll be getting notified of your postings more frequently. I don't see any issues with that so it's a Win/Win for both of us! love Love LOVE what you're doing and support your efforts to encourage people to "get into it!" Wish I could send you photos of my own backyard paradise that I'm developing, but I'm not sure how to manage that or if you're not already deluged with people doing the same. 💞💕💋

As a sugar cane farmer, we call "seed cane" the crop that you cut either with a harvester for billet planting or as whole sticks for stick planting. Both ways have the stick cut into "billets" or cuttings I guess you could call it. So that there are eyes for the cane to grow from 😊 keep up the good work Mark!

A few weeks ago, I bought a container of those white strawberries and immediately cultivated several seeds and have begun the couple of years long project of hoping to start my own patch. I did that with regular red colored strawberries about five years ago, and now I have a patch large enough that I made 24 jars of strawberry jam

@@Madonnalitta1 You are probably talking about the "Yellow Wonder, Alpine Strawberry" which are a type of strawberry that doesn't produce runners and fruit all-year long ? If you are talking about the white strawberry with red seeds, an hybrid, called "pineberry", then I always read these were impossible to germinate because of the hybridisation. Please confirm which it is please! And let me know where I can get seeds, I'm in Canada and all the rootstocks arrive dry (beyond recovery) or rotten.
@Murlockingqc

@@CaptFoster5 Please let me know how that goes, but can you confirm if what you have is "pineberry" an hybrid or white alpine strawberry called "Yellow Wonder" or something similar ? :)

My wife and I thoroughly watching today's vlog Mark. We both appreciate the time, effort and detail that you provide. We are from the Sydney area so it would be interesting to know if there's a sugar cane variety that will grow here too. As for passionfruits we are much better at growing them into vines as they never seem to bear any fruit 😢. We shall persevere as they say 😊.

There have also been so many mislabeled seeds! Last year it was "peppergate" with lots of "jalapeno" peppers actually being something else. This year I ordered a long, thin eggplant variety and ended up with Black Beauty.

You're not the only one Mark. I can remeber being scammed by the label 'Giant Tomato tree seeds'. I certainly did not grow to become anything like the 'tree' shown in the photos and to me just grew to be a common, maybe grosse lisse tomato. In saying tha, i was only a couple of bucks but they all add up. I'm glad you mentioned Panama Gold's though, I was taking te dogs for a walk and there is a huge fruiting vine growing up through a flowering gum close to the golf course lake here in Pelican Waters. So much fruit on it as well, growing totally unkept.

I can't believe the amount of people I have seen online believing in photoshopped images of plants growing animal heads and things like that. Have people never been outside and seen what real plants look like? The rise of scamming is concerning, but it is the rise in stupidity and gullibility that I find really scary.
