I met the videogame version of this guy. I was in high school around 2001 before Retro gaming had fully taken off. (You would not beleive how cheap "rare" games that go for thousands were back then) I briefly met a guy at a little retro game convention held in a church. Later I was selling an Atari ST computer and he showed up as the buyer. He proceeded to tell me about his wife from Japan, how he was a famous DJ who had toured with Del the Funkee Homosapien, partied with all these famous people and was friends with them. Unprompted. I was a high school sophomore and this guy was about 30 and seemed cool, and had no reason to be making up this stuff so I thought nothing of it at the time other than that he had a cool interesting life. 4-5 years later I saw him working the same crappy Job as me at Nintendo in the testing. I said "Hey Leland!" and started referencing Del and he gave me a blank look. He didn't recognize me and forgot his lies about Del and having a wife from Japan, none of it.

Send me my payment, and I’ll put you in touch for the deal of a century!” Then once you get paid for your previous work, “Oh yeah, that guy sold the car last week. Just missed it. Should have paid me on time and you’d be sitting in a cherry 911. I think Jay Leno ended up buying it…”

Early on as an independent audio engineer, I got scammed out of $1500 for a project. From that moment on, I demand 1/2 of the agreed to budget up front. ( Non Refundable) Balance on delivery of the masters. Haven't been scammed since. And I'm pretty sure Doug hasn't been either. Good vid. I've bought 5 cars from Doug and won't go anywhere else to purchase a toy..

I buy and sell cars occasionally as a fun hobby and let me tell you, people like the owner of this Porsche are literally the only people I seem come across. I always just let them talk, I just smile and nod.

I've met so many people like this. Best was I hired this kid for production line. The line went down one day so he was working directly with me on a project I was on while the rest of crew was put to another task. We started talking cars, because he knew I was into cars. Somewhere in the conversation the Cobalt SS came up. I said something about the turbo version being better (read: faster) car and he tried to tell me that the supercharged was indeed and that his friend had one that made 800 horsepower. I wasn't as nice as Doug, I immediately called him on his bullshit. He then doubled down and said that the car ran 8's in the quarter mile. I laughed HARD, and told him there was no way it ran 8's even with 800 horsepower, and then he TRIPLED down and said the car only weighed 800 lbs. I told him the chassis along weighs more than that. He was still insisting and I basically told him to just STFU. I said, you might be able to bullshit the guys on the line, but you're not going to bullshit someone that obviously knows more about cars than you do. BTW, pretty sure the fastest Cobalt in the world has only ever ran 11's (not including pro mods)

Yup! Birmingham is from my neck of the woods and has been called out for his scams just like this. Even going as far to make deals on brand new porsches only to leave to get a cashiers check and then never return. We have all sorts of stories about him Sorry he got ya man!

I've never hired a car inspector but when you get an appraisal done which is very similar, typically they don't give you the report until you pay. Sounds like you are a bit too trusting.
