I Hate Doing Sod! But this Landscaping job was $4,130, so here's How we did It... I never do sad jobs all by themselves unless they are part of a landscaping package and upsell. So if we have a five thousand dollar job on the line and the customer wants some sod insttalled, then of course we are going to say yes. Sod Is actually easy to install if you know how to do it properly. In this video I give some tips that I've learned over the years to ensure that you do a great job installing Sod and so that you protect the customers investments. for instance. always give the customers watering instructions. we even go as far as bringing a hose and watering wand to every job.

I would recommend using a sod roller to remove the air pocket and to help press down the sod firmly down to the new dirt

Sod installation is definitely an underrated service. Homeowners don’t understand and that’s why it’s important to be a good salesman. It should be somewhere around $1600 minimum per pallet. Most people pay ~$800 - $1,000 per pallet installed and it is lumpy, and it dies within a year due to poor installation methods. They need to pay double and get double the work done or it’s a complete waste of money.

I do seed over sod. It helps blend it in better with the existing lawn. I also pay special attention to placing seed at the lines where 2 sods meet.

I copied everything you did over the winter and greatly improved my quality of life. Working on sales, how to get jobs with the increased prices. I’m a better option than what’s out there for mulch, we do it flawlessly. But some want the cheap guy. How to discern?

I hope you’re using a weighted sod roller after. This is how the sod starts to take it has to be packed down.

Sod installers don’t do this usually. The prep work is more important. It settles and grows in fine if taken care of.

We do plenty of sod only jobs we find it very profitable because no one wants to do it. Bottom line if you charge what you need to make then all jobs are good in my opinon. The real problem comes in when people think they have to charge what others charge which is usually not even close to being profitable. Most aren't operating at a professional level that it takes to get premium dollar imo. It helps to have all the right equipment to get it done efficiently.

Yup same, when they ask for sod they have to pay...removing sod and installing sod are my least favorite tasks. And we remove a lot of sod...we also spray a lot when customers don't specify.

Yea I've layed sod when it was snowing. No choice. Sucked. I love doing sod. It's a rewarding job. But! It's a high liability job. Even if you give strict watering instructions. You can't control mother nature. I've had bad luck putting sod over a stump. Unless it's ground down at least 8 to12 inches. If you dident grind enough you will notice that area start to yellow quick. But yea. It's a high liability job. Most sod farms in my ares will warranty sod for 30 days. I don't. And make it clear if it fails we don't garrentee it.

You do want to overseed the sod. Watch Stanley's videos about sodding. If you want to either call or email him about sod, I have his email address & phone #. I am sure he won't be mad if I gave you, his info. lol I just talked to him a few weeks ago. Also, watch Stanley's videos. Watch out to be able to realize if you have a snobby customer. Does the customer want the sod, green side up or Black side up. lol

@jamiepippin3892 2 ай бұрын
Yes. Even one guy could make 200k just by mowing lawns depending on the climate zone. Find 40 clients that needs weekly mowing and require it 40 weeks out of the year. Trim their bushes a few times a year and maintain the mulch beds as a bonus.
