You can tell he's on the verge of tears on his reaction video. Mr Derek was obvisouly bullied in his childhood years and tries to get back to it as an adult because he hates himself for not standing his ground back then. Living in hollywood he became envious of all these famous film makers and talentlessly tried to emulate them, but also lived a sheltered life that always spared him criticism. IHE and YMS are representative of a culture of harshness bred by the internet that Derek doesn't get at all and grossly interprets as bullying. But the most fascinating thing about this man is his naivety. When everyone today has a grown a healthy skepticism, Mr Derek stills falls for the Nigerian prince scam.

I love how throughout the Cool Cat series you get the idea that Derek likes being 'anti bully' because he thinks it entails getting to be mean to someone who you perceive as a bully. Then this whole thing starts up and the behaviour matches 100%. Anyone truly committed to teaching others how to deescalate conflicts (i.e. being 'anti bullying') is gonna lean way more into turning the other cheek or understanding people's actions rather than resorting to kicking sand in the name of righting wrongs.

He's a lying, immature, and scared, delusional man - and unfortunately, one that's grossly misinformed and thinks that everything he's doing is somehow confidential, and somehow correct - which it isn't. He'll never admit he was wrong, and he'll never apologise. Which is a shame, because I really wanted him to do the right thing and be proven wrong. All I'll say man is never feel like you did wrong and don't ever let people like him get to you. He's too arrogant and delusional to ever come clean, and he's ruined everything for himself. I know this is ancient history, but that the email said the firm was named 'Byrne and Shapiro' AND 'Shapiro Law Firm' might have been a clue too. I have attorney clients. That's not done...especially from supposed copyright attorneys. They usually get pretty touchy about the firm name, and Byrne would be pretty pissed if his partner was omitting him from official correspondence.
