Good question, but the game was analyzed on M.A.M.E. many years ago and it was concluded that it helps on Javelin. They even figured out which patterns and which speeds help the most. I can find the link to that post if you are interested in knowing more than you need to know about this game. 😅 Just so you know, I pressing while in the air does nothing on Long Jump and nothing on Hammer Throw. Helps on Javelin and High Jump.

You're not the only one who didn't know. I found out a few days ago and after years without knowing. I never got over 90 meters and with this technique the other day I managed to do it.
