I HATED MAKING THIS - AH-1G in War Thunder - OddBawZ

The AH-1G in War Thunder is an 8.0 Attack Helicopter for the US Tech Tree. This variant uses Mighty Mouse Rockets and a Twin 40mm Grenade Launcher.
The AH-1G can be first spawned into Ground RB and is very effective at taking out multiple opponents and thinning out the crew of enemy tanks before being blown to bits in a glorious fireball.
The AH-1G Cobra Attack Helicopter is pretty much a throwaway free kill machine at the start of games, that is... assuming there isn't someone actually playing an SPAA at the start of a match! :)

as a former AH-1 pilot, it was fun to watch your antics. Desert Storm is now 30 years ago. The 20mm depleted uranium rounds will shred T-72's with no issue. 2.75" folding fin multiple munition rockets are fun BUT the TOW wire guided (shape charge) missile was the shit. Yes the AH 1G toxic... then there's the Ka52/MI-28 doing the same thing but with liquid explosive rockets that are one-shot kills without direct hits...

In fairness the stock grind on ah1g has been hell for me. Either i get yeeted by a gepard or pilot sniped by a Russian 14.5. Meanwhile i put a 20mm shell into a planes cockpit and nothing.

Bruh I just finished the worst first day at work Ive ever had. They had the other new guy and me clean out a room with 100's of pounds of pasta that was covered in rat shit and urine. Then had the audacity to complain that we threw out the boxes the pasta was in. I am so happy I can come home sit down and decompress to your videos Odd. I love scouting vehicles. I arguably think it's more satisfying seeing "Destroyed by intelligence" pop up. It's like the rush of getting a kill, except you don't know when it will happen. Feelsgoodman.

same, lol. I can survive long enough to get one kill if I'm lucky in a run, but always end up so damaged I lose engine power at minimum and crash leaving the battlefield.

The 28 rocket pods are the way to go you have a lot more lift and speed and if you devote your self to taking out enemy heli it’s a lot more affective if you ditch the grenade launcher for the 7mm mini gun

It boggles my mind that helos in general and the AH-1G in particular have been in this long yet still don't have a realistic model for when tail control is lost and the AH-1G still doesn't have its actual historical loadout of a minigun/40mm launcher wombo combo in the nose turret.

I refuse to believe that these aren’t paid actors, I never get to fight players this incompetent in my AH-1. Even my best games require me to fly like a maniac to avoid the Iron Dome level of ground fire.

It's pretty standard when I am playing with my friends that if I get a few kills I will say to them on voice chat "stay away from my vehicle, there is probably a bomb incoming" and more often than not it is true lol. Thanks for the entertainments Odd, in my personal opinion you should only ever do videos that you enjoy making on a schedule that fits with the rest of your life. Have seen quite a few entertaining youtubers seriously burn themselves out and would hate to see that happen to you. EDIT: It is always highly entertaining to me when someone is doing well and takes out a bunch of my team mates, but you take them out once and you can almost hear the screaming as their plane rams into your vehicle a second before the bomb gets there.

Good point Bawz, the community at high tier really does seem way more toxic than at lower tiers and this is definitely part of the reason for why everybody else doesn’t seem to have such a good time. Anyway, keep making the great content, I’m sure nobody minds if you just do what you enjoy.

One thing I've always hated about the AH-1G was it's undying need to lean right CONSTANTLY. The damn thing cannot fly in a straight line (you can see your "momentum arrow" at your central reticle point (the one that doesn't move)), and the grenade launcher is really hard to get used to. Its really only effective on extremely light vehicles. The UH-1B flies so much more smooth and consistent, but I guess that was just true to the design of the AH-1G Listening to Odd reminds me of my grandparents in Aberdeen :) great vid lad, keep up the good work

Thanks for showing us the chopper. I'm still very curious about chopper tactics in War Thunder. Out here in the world choppers are way better at ambush and retreat than they are head to head. I'd love to see you fly more choppers. Keep on thrashing them man!

This strat is the exact reason why people were happy when the premium G 91 got to more nords and why German mains are so angry at this tier. I noticed on rare occasions you lose zoom and the escape key to go to options screen. After a minute it comes back, but it is a weird bug, and usually when an enemy is right in front too. Still happening today.

Whenever I play that BR now as Germany, I always bring out the Bagelpanzer as my first spawn to make sure I don't get ganked by helis. The proxy-fuse round does wonders against the AH-1's

the top tier british helo with the starstreaks obliterate every A2A platform in the game. KA-50's vikers get set off by their prox fuse so if you beam a missile straight through theirs you can pop it harmlessly and kill them. direct hits only but it's insanely fast and you can kill pretty much all armor in the game if you're hitting the right spots. These helo's have to be played cat and mouse peeking over hills only to shoot and the ducking just low enough for the sensor to be the only exposed part. flying out in the open can get a few kills like you showed but thinking like a hyper mobile R3, hiding and ambushing people from 5-7km away, is where these birds shine

Thankfully I have a very good friend who loves his Gepard, so I have a personal AA following me around dealing with all the turds flying AH-1Gs. My Strv 104 is also quite good at dealing with the buggers.

I love to bring a gepard out as a first spawn. It's very cheap, and shooting down helis is easy, plus anything light gets shrekked and with some brain you can kill MBTs. It's very easy to get enough SP for a G91.

Honestly, I feel like a simple quick-fix for heli's is to make it so they cost as much as a plane to take out, so you can't start with it. High, tier heli's of course will need even more work.

a tip when using Sgt York, if u locked an aircraft from 4km and the lead indicator now appears u can fire a short burst or just fire one shot and u can "snipe" without them knowing no matter what plane it is, may it be prop or a jet.

Oddbawz I recently made the jump from 6.7 to 7.7, and I’m having trouble adjusting. I have the ru251, so I know the play style, but it’s hard playing against other MBTs, let alone the helicopters. Any tips?

dunno if you know but on radars with friendly recognition a double dash means its friendly or if its easier on the compass the triangle will have a line under it for friendly

Highly recommend you turn on manual roll control (needs to be bound) so it doesnt try to violently roll back to center when you let go of the button. Also use q and e to rotate yourself when gaijin's crappy instructor says otherwise.

I find it quite amusing how durable Cobra is in this game. Well, how every helicopter in the game is so durable. Also that stability when your tail gets shot off - that's possible only with Kamov helicopters :P
