Thank you to Comfort Works for gifting me the Soderhamn Pure Linen Natural slipcover! To learn more please visit comfort-works.com?&
In one of our previous videos I mentioned that I wasn't happy with the colour of my IKEA couch, and the DIY gods heard me! Comfort Works was so kind as to gift me a new slipcover that makes all of my warm-toned linen dreams come true, not to mention they added in some awesome mid century modern replacement legs which are a great sustainable solution to swapping out an entire couch. Plus, I took on fixing my front window, which I painted white, added curtains to, and DIY'd a vibey live edge natural wood insert to cover the warped wood on the window sill. Which home DIY should I take on next?!

I don’t usually comment on videos but I had to say dang, your viewers have some opinions! Ain’t no sugar coating around these parts! I for one love your videos Becky (and don’t care about the length of your curtains, how you take care of your plants or whether or not you choose to fill the cracks in your wood 😂). Your house is gorgeous and you always do a fabulous and professional job on all your projects. I also really appreciate how you are genuinely budget conscious and not wasteful. Question: If I were to hang a curtain +rail above a window that is maybe a meter wide in my bedroom. (Just one curtain. Not a 'split' curtain. Or 2 tiny curtains) Would you still hang it to the floor? Under my window is some space and then my radiator and it sticks out +- 20 centimeters. Would you then hang the curtain above the radiator or just below the window? Or not at all. Right now I have a roller blind. I got this very long red velvet curtain from my grandma's house. It used to hang in the hallway to block the cold from the frontdoor in the winter. But I am wondering what I should do with it. Velvet might look too heavy for in a bedroom..

Yes, it’s a detail often used in a contrasting wood species/color to bring attention to it, but also joins the wood together. I’m second guessing now whether the split in Becky’s wood is too wide for it. But maybe at the base of the crack/check to prevent further cracking in combination with an epoxy fill. Imo
@covenof2
@covenof2 4 жыл бұрын
I LOVE the live edge, and that split gives it character, but at the same time I worry it won't handle the wear & tear of being a window ledge very well. I really feel like the gap should be filled with clear resin. I know its less "natural", but it would make the split so much stronger.
@kcanded

I was thinking of resin, too, but with an iridescence about it. Perhaps a pearly iridescence? So there's not a lot of contrast.

I love the sustainability of just replacing the cover instead of the whole couch, but yikes those prices! The covers are more expensive than some of the couches 😭 I love the idea, but I’m hoping I can find a more budget friendly option somewhere else online. Switching out the legs is pure genius though, it makes such a difference!
@blackcatz1364
@blackcatz1364 4 жыл бұрын
I have done this by sewing my own, if you have a sewing machine and basic sewing skills its totally do able - I pinned each section inside out straight onto the sofa to fit it and just sewed it up. I made it removable so I could wash it as I have pets. Only cost was the fabric which I got from Ikea for maybe less than $100.

Just because it is plasic doesn't make it worth than real lether. The cows have to be "produced" , too, and need a lot of water, pastureland, food ect. and fart methan.

@Sara French sure, but cotton is much more hard wearing, lasts longer, whereas linen is very brittle, wears out and rips easier..
@ahumanaperson
@ahumanaperson 4 жыл бұрын
chrisssssssi there are many more varieties of faux leather than actual leather, some of the cheapest forms are just poly/cotton weaves with a layer of plastic fused on top with a grain effect. There are thousands of types but all require some kind of plastic to achieve the ‘polished outer’ finish, not all of these plastics are vegan either. So all vegan leathers are faux but not all faux leathers are vegan ygm? I still think real leather is more damaging to the planet both environmentally and ethically. Because even real leather isn’t compostable after all the chemicals they have to infuse it with..

I'm not gunna lie, my heart died a little when she painted over the gorgeous wood trim around the window before she added the new bench. I thought it was a gorgeous contrast in that room with the stain. Just my opinion though👍
