It's not really as hard as people think! :) sometimes people just don't feel right with the name their Guardian picked for them and the reasoning why can be anything from just wanting to change it or you want to change it because even just the sound of it makes them feel very uncomfortable. I hate that my mom made me go by my middle name. I hate it. So I go by my first name now. Honestly, even just that helped me out alot! I know you didn't ask a question and please don't take this as me coming after you in any way!! Just thought I'd share my experience to hopefully answer any questions you may have!

I'm transgender and choosing my new name was so difficult! I went by three names over 5 years and finally settled on Elliott.

I think children should be aloud to name themselves and as far as nick names that comes from family not friends and no one outside of the family should know your nick name.

Here (USA) (I’m Mexican) JR is usually only used as a Middle Name if the first name is the same as the father..which is often a tradition in many families to name their first born son after them. (Usually but not always ofc) I personally don’t have a middle name but my mother’s maiden name I do have, but. It’s together with my dads last name. So, First name + both parents last names. The kids that I grew up with who had a middle name where only called by it whenever they’d get into trouble. I personally don’t like middle names. My name is Jairo and as it is 99% of people (non-Spanish speakers) have a hard time pronouncing.
