Your early experience with the Hifi is greatly appreciated! And in true Aaron Short manner, you astutely touched on all the relevant points for the community. A couple thoughts of mine on parts of the video: You spoke of possibly fixing dings/gouges in the wood of guitars by using an iron or similar. I did just that on a guitar of mine (a Lowden with a cedar top), and although it did raise the large ding up a bit, it also (of course) left the spot in a different color, and a bit rough. Same experience I had when occasionally attempting to fix gouges in parquet flooring. I put a couple drops of water in the gouges, waited a while for it to soak in, and then ironed the spots with some fabric in between. Here, too, the spots raised up, but you have to live with the different color they have, and them being rough and really in need of sanding. I don‘t feel this is a viable way to fix dings on any guitar, unless you don‘t care how it looks (in which case you can just skip the fix altogether), or feel like sanding down the entire top and relaquering, etc. A (poor?) guitar tech here in Germany once „fixed“ a couple gouges using some kind of superglue to feel them up, purportedly so the top remained stable. Looks absolutely dreadful! Next topic: stage guitars with a less-than-full resonance being better for the job. Yep, same experience here. My Lowden jumbo fed back on stage like crazy. Ended up not using it for anything except songs needing a bit of bass from my duo partner, like Crazy Little Thing Called Love. My Martin D-35 sounds great as-is, but the bass can be overwhelming plugged in, and the highs a bit piercing. So my - cheap but great - Yamaha FG-TA (Transacoustic) has become my favorite stage guitar, and it isn‘t even solid wood on the sides and backs (nice mahogany veneer, though). It isn‘t woofy or shrill, but very, very well balanced across the spectrum, and doesn‘t feed back half as easily as the rest. Last topic: Anthem SL vs. Hifi, or rather „with mic“ vs. „without mic“. There could be a happy medium. One of my guitars has a piezo/mic combo in it, the AER AK-15+, and it has a mic which is an integral part of the endpin jack(!), so no goose neck, added weight or eyesores in the soundhole. It sounds astoundingly good, though the piezo undersaddle is of course as bad as the rest. Why couldn‘t LR Baggs come up with a variant of the Hifi that has a such an endpin jack mic, and perhaps equip that mic with a comb filter of some kind to rid it of some of the bass frequencies already provided by the transducers so there is less or no overlap? Maybe kinda like the Lyric, but better?

K & K finally tried one in my friends old Martin D-18. It didn’t sound good and i had no preamp of any kind to try and dial a tone in i liked. I thought it was awful actually But most pickups are if not installed properly. Almost certainly need a mic as well either internally or in front to get a good sound. I like that anyway dual is best. I prefer more mic than pickup Think Anthem SL hits the mark very well. But am curious to hear this HI-FI Another great achievement from Baggs crew

Hey Aaron I just watched your livestream on this as well as the one with Maury and the Trance Audio Amulet. I have a 1946 Gibson LG2 that already had the endpin drilled out when I got it so I’m thinking of adding a pickup but I don’t want to add anything that can’t be undone. I’m kind of down to either the Hifi or the amulet but am open to suggestions. Does either hold significant advantages over the other? Which would you prefer? Thanks!

Hi. I just put a Hifi in my D28. I’m finding that I need to roll the tone knob all the way up to get and sort of brightness. Anything lower than all the way up loses almost all the shimmer and clarity and is much darker. If I set it right in middle which should be an equal blend of frequency, its totally dark and muffled. Are you finding this to be true with your Hifi as well?

It is hard to beat a full dovetail. Fortunately I am content with what I have, at least I tell myself I am.

I totally hear noise in our in ears. Digital noise. Just like you mention here. You can totally get rid of it when you change the volume of the preset. But I wish it didn’t make the noise. I like you have tried two.

How far has Martin fallen to even contemplate the need for a celebrity endorsement like jm? It's understandable they can't build guitars out of brazilian since about 1968. But I did hear a fantastic sounding Indian rosewood d45 dating back to the 1980's priced at 14k. Putting the name of jm on an om45 would embarrass me to play it at a gig. I would definitely choose a Preston or a Santa Cruz at 18k over a Martin jm (if I had that kind of money).
