LOADS of people drive from Cape to Cairo, or the other way. You can do that in any car. It's tarmac all the way. A few years ago, there was even a South African woman who drove an old car from Cape to London. The combined age of her and her car was over 100 years. But right now it's difficult, because there's a civil was in Sudan, and Ethiopia has made it difficult to enter by car as well. Which is why it's better to go by the west coast now.

To expand on the reason for breaking fast with dates, there are many and one of them is what your friend said but also from a religion standpoint it is Sunnah (something the prophet used to do) to do so, and also from a nutritional point of view dates are the fastest way to get sugar (the healthy sugar) into your blood stream so you could imagine why it's useful after fasting.

In before the last ep. So so close now. I love how progressively unhinged Russ is looking. Running through the Sahara with fucking swimming goggles/bunsen burner goggles is hilarious. He could bring out his own design as a limited drop when he's back, they will be certifiable by a world record holding ultramarathon runner haha. I've been watching from the start (I'm the pinned comment on the very 1st video of the mission!) - can I call dibs on those goggles from the IG video haha!? I will preserve this small part of history! And then sell them on Bargain Hunt in 40 years to fund my retirement 😂 How far everybody's come since that very first video. I was thinking that Russ is like one of those beetles that can lift like 27x it's body weight or some shit. Guus and Jaime weren't there from the beginning but Guus would be doing this shit anyway, I imagine that this is like a holiday for him. And look how far Stan has come, if you asked him how to change a tire 5 years ago he would've said something along the lines of "goo goo ga ga, more milk mummy." haha. But look at them all now, absolutely flying through the Sahara, what a crew. They had the audacity, they dared to do great things, and they're gonna fucking do it! Wish I could be there in Tunisia guys, all the best!!

I went back and watched a few old episodes from the first few weeks. It is heartbreaking, but very real, how the challenges of the journey have affected the team, especially Russ and Stan. Then again, Guus is still just Guus. You are mighty men and you have left your mark on the biggest of all continents. I'm with the other commenters, though - I will hate to see it end.
