In this book talk video, I dissect a single paragraph of the science fiction short story "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream" by Harlan Ellison, first published in 1967. My aim is to explore why it works so well, and hopefully learn some lessons that we can employ in our own writing.
I wish I'd included a summary at the end. My "take away" would be to write with confidence. Don't patronize or underestimate your reader. Don't over-explain. Simple words and phrases, chosen wisely, can often pack a powerful punch.

Disclaimer: I know nothing. Don't listen to me. All of my videos are based on stuff I feel like I've learnt from books, videos, workshops, and so on. Stuff I've tried and succeeded or failed at. Do what feels right for you. And always have fun.
