Might be potential anime of the season

The animation and artstyle is amazing! I hope this quality of storytelling keeps up as well!!

Normally since I watch nearly all the shows of the season I don't miss any hidden gems but this season because I'm more busy I haven't been able to see everything so thanks for pointing this out to me. This flew under my radar.

It's absolutely beautiful. I love that they use more organic and natural colors then the norm in anime which has really bright and vibrant colors. It's great

First episode was great and i loved the art, hope it gets more attention

Ye, it has high Shinsekai Yori vibes which was the best back then and is in my top 10. Ep 1 already showed interesting world and story. I'm glad that in this mid season we got gems like this ( so far I like the most The Magic Revolution, Sugar Apple Fairy Tale and this, The Fire Hunter). Animation is great and tbh opening is the best of this season so far. (It's too early but I can see this show as AOTY contender as well)

I watched the first episode after seeing it in Gigguk's winter 2023 overview, and I was really impressed. Mamoru Oshii, the writer of Ghost in the Shell, is clearly on point. I felt more connected with Touko than most anime characters after an entire season. I like the dynamic of her aunt and grandmother caring for her while her cousin is jealous. The art style and animation remind me of Jin-Roh. It's so fluid.

This new series based on episode one has some potential.

Chibi thank you for covering this! Big W from you. I´m glad that someone is talking about this hidden gem. My gut feeling is telling me this might be AOTY candidate that no one watches. Gotta say the art style is gorgeous and OST fucking slaps. Honestly it feels like combination of old Ghibli movies and Shinsekai Yori. The OP and ED was pretty good as well!

When I was watched the first episode, I was instantly hooked with the animation, storyline, and the music. Refreshing to see this art style. I remember you mentioning it in your anime to watch video before Winter 2023 started.

It certainly has caught my interest now. Maybe it could be a top tier series.

Considering the series composition is by Mamoru Oushi himself, this show has a LOT of potential. For you guys who are too young to remember that name, Ooshii is the director of Ghost in the Shell (1998) and the Patlabor Movie series (80s mecha anime, that brings back a lot of memories). This entire team in fact, is composed of veterans of the industry, so expect something really special.

MD Signal is the studio and this anime is better than his previous jobs, maybe this is the beginning of a great studio

It's just that it's one of those anime that aren't promoted in a big way, that's why nobody talks about it. But I'm glad this anime came out, because I enjoy anime of this style the most, those that are out of the usual and at the same time are interesting either with good or bad animation. I hope it doesn't decline, it reminded me of Mushishi and Haibane Renmei at times.

Garnt caught my attention when he mentioned the OG staff behind this. Good to see them kicking ass. Moribito has been mentioned in your other comments, and it's one of my all-time favorites, so being compared to it is notable. I'm really tired of the "post-apocalypse" trope but even so I plan to catch up on this so thanks for the push.

So underrated got a Moribito vibe to it it's a shame it came out now as too many anime this season and alot of good shows will go unnoticed.

Speculation: There seems to be a lot of symbolism in this show when it comes to paper. It was stated multiple times that people where “re-made” and because of this they catch fire easily. I’m kinda suspicious that perhaps the gods “re-made” them out of some paper like substance like how you would make Origami. They even stated the gods themselves use a special type of paper to write on. Although that was probably just a fable they believe in, but if it’s true the gods of that world do exist and do use special paper, then perhaps this could be the case? It wouldn’t be too out of the ordinary considering they have a special/ unusual type of substance which takes on the form/ aspects of fire. So perhaps there is a paper or something similar which can take on the form/ aspects of a person and human souls are inserted into them like puppets? This is all just speculation however based on the little information I seen in the show. My second guess is that it’s some kinda Prometheus type situation. So many years ago people stole fire from the gods to create civilization, but the gods have now taken it back and put humanity’s civilization back many years. Now people are hunting for the fire which was taken.

The main character really reminds me of Ai Enma from Jigoku Shoujo. Character design and shy/reserved personality are similar to Ai's.

Dang Chibi; between Trigun Stampede, Bungo Stray dogs, Nier Automata, and Tokyo Revengers s2, I am not sure I have any more room for anime on my 🤯

Kinda reminds me of finding Heikimonogatori (I think that was its name) where it’s super unique and underrated

Definitely flew under my radar but any anime with Saori Hayami is at least worth an attempt.

I appreciate a fantasy set in a far flung future where humanity has technologically regressed. Reminds me of From the New World in a few different ways, and I’m digging it.

This first episode made me feel like this is gonna be a solid emotional heart wrenching punch in the guts. I mean, dayum, look at the way the dog looks at you, and right at the start already.

I get a vibe from this similar to Shin Sekai Yori. A beautiful fantasy world that is at the same time oppresive and a world you would be afraid to tavel.

The plot and artwork of this show is amazing, especially its unique setting. It actually reminded me of 'From the new world (2012~13)' a SF anime also adapted from novel. Both series are set in a semi-dystopian world after great war that has altered human genetics to its core and I can't wait to watch rest of the episodes for both plot and setting. Also, the op and ed songs are FIRE 🔥.

I think this style of animation, which to me is very 90s like, would be a style that can get adapted into movie and if done right would be good, but that’s just my opinion.

Animation quality dropped after the first episode, but it's still quite a good anime. Hope that it fleshes out the characters eventually instead of more lore dumps and expanding the cast. Main girl is still very cute. Like how it's a retro-style show made in 2023. The music is very well done in this anime, it does make it more atmospheric.

It kind of reminds me a little bit of Fire Force. it has somewhat of a similar take trying to contain the fire so people don't completely come bust into flames. two different series somewhat of a similar idea.

When I saw that Oshii Mamoru was writing the script for the show, I knew that it was good news.

When I've watched this first episode everything I've seen, heard and felt was telling me "this is going to be an amazing show". And I hope it will.

This one took my back too, but not in a good way. It's been really boring to me so far. I'm going to TRY to give it 3 episodes, but I may drop this one after the 2nd. I'm really boring so far for me. The main is basically a mute with no personality. The only interesting part for me so far was the first few secs with the fire hunter. Hopefully it'll get better, but my hopes are low ATM
