Not only did Dennis give a good workout, he did so with very limited advice on goals! If adding more specificity for an entire month he may be an incredible coach!

Professional coach here: first workout was great for a long sprinter starting their season, or even for a distance runner like yourself to get some speed training in. The % changes should probably be based on 200m PR time. Be neat to see you train more speed/sprint work see what you could get your 200 down to. If you could get to 25/26 in the 200 while still maintaining a weekly mileage of 50+ I’d bet you could crush a 5K/10K and if you had the mileage even your marathon time would drop. Proven with a past friend/athlete of mine who’s at 2:17 marathon

Hey man I recently started running again after couple month but getting very bad shin and ankle pain and feel heavy footed, can't keep running more thatn 300m if i don't rest my legs for couple minutes Have any recommendations?
@tyhoover828926 күн бұрын
@@Sully_oneBest thing to do is ease back into running, sometimes that slower than we would want. A lot of times those Shin/Ankle pains are from a constant pounding and your bones are used to the impact again. The more you run the more your bones form these tiny little breaks that over time heal to make the bone stronger but if you don't rest enough they don't heal before breaking more and thats how things like stress fractures happen. I have this problem with college freshman as their bodies just aren't used to the toll yet. A lot of them we hold back on a lot of impact, start to sub tempo days on bikes instead of repeates to help get lungs conditioned. For yourself depending on the pain it would be best to rest for a couple weeks. When starting up again try to avoid treadmills, try to run on grass for parts of your run, make sure you're shoes are good solid shoes. Foam rollers save lives, a lot of times ankle/knee pain can be caused by a tight IT band so foam rolling the IT band / side of your quad up to your hip can help release pressure. When getting back into running as well sometimes we expect to jump back into a speed we used to run, but in reality as we age and take time it's best to start comfortable and slow and work back up to it. (I've also heard the story of walking up hills or walking in reverse on an inclined treadmill helps, but I haven't found it to be true just yet personally).
@Sully_one26 күн бұрын
@@tyhoover8289 Cheers mate, Really preciate it. So basically avoid any type of running for couple weeks and then get back into easy runs (5ks, 6,7k pace) when I feel ready Strength and calv training is also prohibited or I can hit the muscles in the gym? Hiking and hill walking is fine tho, yeah?
@tyhoover828919 күн бұрын
@@Sully_one Strength training is always great! Never worry about lifting with running its great to do actually. With moderation and consideration for how your body feels. You can hike and walk as well but those could way in on your overal milage and how your body feels but shouldn't be much of a problem if you're avid about it enough.

The $5 workout was a sprint workout...nothing distance runners would ever do. The $25 workout was a mid distance workout. The $500 could be done for a great many things, as a last prerace workout for a distance run or a mid distance workout

for that 4x200m workout, you aren't supposed to jog back to the 200m start, that ruins the rest you're supposed to give your legs inbetween sets, you just start where you finished your last rep.

Getting specific workouts are great, but a good coach you'd pay more than the $15 for would get to know you and your goals better to design a more individualized plan. It's hard to rank these without a greater context of who these coaches are.

As a coach for the last 25 years, I would to say that: whatever amount of money you paid it was too much if any coach agreed to give you a single session without first asking about your strenght, weakness, current fitness level, goals, and so on. Then, a single training session has in itself absolutely no value or effect. I can give you any session and being right telling you it is the best ever... for somebody at some time; but that same session would also be...the worst for someone at some time! The fact is, here, that the best builded session was the first one, but that's the kind of stuff that would either suits a sprinter or a middle-distance guy prepared for that after a gradual build-up (that said, that is not what a would consider a big very hard session: it's only normal speed/sprint stuff. On another hand, the most expensive one is so simple that this is the kind of thing I would suggest (and charge) with a little of irony to anyone insisting on buying a single session instead of something more complete, useful (in other words: "you wan't something stupide? You really want me to do only that, to sell you something that makes no sense ? Ok, so pay: 500$! When you'll want real coaching and not only a clip bait video you'll have my number so then we could talk!") That said, sorry, but doing random training sessions for the fun of it is not serious. Well, was still fun to watch!

One of my favorite workouts is 15 min warm up, 25x400m at 5k-10k pace, 30 second rest intervals, and 15 min cool down. For me, this is 400m in 90sec and 30sec rest, so 2 min go’s.

The 500 dollar workout isnt expensive because its a special workout, its because thats how much the coach charges for his time. If he had a better understanding of your current fitness conditioning and were able to watch you closely, he would have a tailored workout plan for you beyond a single day. Not a good comparison. It is not a secrete what competitor runners do for their workouts, what is difficult is tailoring the workout to the specific person based on goals, abilities and injuries.

32sec for 200m is not a sprint lol, it's a fast jog, I would do 28s or less for that intensity, but 90% is too much for that many times, so it's about 29s. I often did 12x200m in 31s with 90 seconds break and then a 4min break before a 400m in about 60s or just below depending on how well I was feeling.
