Season 1 Episode 1 "Everybody Lies"
Rebecca Adler, a 29-year-old kindergarten teacher, becomes dysphasic and collapses in her classroom. Dr. Gregory House initially refuses the case until Dr. James Wilson tells him that Rebecca is his cousin. When Dr. Lisa Cuddy tries to make House fulfill his clinical duties, he refuses but is forced to do them when his authorization to the MRI is revoked. He diagnoses Rebecca with cerebral vasculitis and her condition improves with treatment. To find the source of Rebecca's seizures, House convinces Dr. Eric Foreman to break into Rebecca's house. At the hospital, Rebecca suddenly loses her vision and suffers another seizure. Foreman discovers ham at Rebecca's house, revealing both Wilson's lie (Wilson is Jewish and the presence of ham indicates Rebecca is not, thereby suggesting the two are not related) and the cause of the seizure-tapeworms (namely, a tapeworm larva embedded in her brain). When Rebecca refuses treatment, House persuades her otherwise by proving her condition with a non-invasive X-ray suggested by Dr. Robert Chase, which depicts a tapeworm larva embedded in her leg, supporting their diagnosis.

A lot of people still see this scene as House really just saying that he hired her because she's pretty and that's all. But it's not all. He's saying that she's so pretty that she could have had the easiest life in the world, yet she *chose* to do all this work instead. And that choice tells you a whole lot more about the person than any transcript ever could. That's why he hired her.

I just randomly thought of this scene so went to find it and saw your comment: Exactly, it's like people tune out the rest of the scene. Just like in Age Ultron when Black Widow says she's a monster- she can't have kids. Because she let them do that to her and the rest, not just because that.

House like Cameron because she is smart and kind soul despite her highly attractive look that could made her life way easier that the one she chosen. The reading is pretty clear but it's House so he play with her because she is also a bit naive, but he like and respect her so much that he reject her advances because of her charitable attitude and attraction to him. Such great writing.

You don't seem to understand acting. Acting is about presenting a fictitious person with your body. An old man cannot play a young woman. A pretty hot babe cannot play a man. An ugly girl cannot play a prettty girl and a pretty girl cannot play an ugly girl. To get a role of a pretty young woman she competed with other pretty young women. So being a pretty young women only met the first initial cryterion for the job and didn't make her any special.

I love how House is completely amused by Cameron's offense at the mere suggestion she would get where she is because of her looks. He really was baffled by Cameron's interest in him, but eventually figured out she liked to take on damanged or dooomed souls and try to 'fix' them. He had to push her to develop a thicker skin, which did happen over time. What's also interesting is that on Castle, the main character's initial analysis of Becket pretty much uses the exact same logic.

@surrealb7214 3 жыл бұрын
I believe the stealing car reference from the brother episode was more of an elaboration of one of their later exploits. I assume the timeline would be foreman got caught up in his initial scandal, leading to his juvenile record, he served his time, got out, and then got roped into the car event with his brother, which is why foreman’s brother mentioned their mother finally giving up on him, implying he had done those kinds of thing before, and got fed up from him roping in his younger brother after foreman’s earlier stint with law enforcement. That’s how I perceived it, at least.

I actually love how he put that. Then again I would guess only a few girls actually know how beautiful they are. Which is good because the ones that know are the ones who focus too much on themselves lol. Being confident in how you look is great, being obsessed with how you look is not.

Was most likely shot on some old dv type of camera (possible film but I don't think so). It's not a 'filter' over the top (which is called a colour grade) but could also be due to using specific filters (if you look up black pro-mist, it looks very similar) or lenses. Also this is 4:3 not 16:9 like the other seasons. So the other comment about budget could also be very true which limited the gear they had available. Note: I'm a cinematographer but not from this era, so could be completely wrong.

House is wrong. I went to medical school, and there were A LOT of gorgeous women. As in, literally they could have played elves in Lord of the Rings, and one young lady in particular was quite possibly the most beautiful woman I have seen with my own eyes. Then again, I live in Sweden. :>

House was disecting Cameron from the first episode. He probably knew about her need to help others long before she threw herself at him. That's probably also the reason he hired her. She was complicated like 13 or Taub. Also since Chase was his first hire, his father calling reason is probably true.

What House actually meant of course, was "You couldve chosen the easy path and used your beauty to get whatever you wanted. Instead you worked hard".
@LA2047
@LA2047 3 жыл бұрын
"People choose the paths that gain them the greatest rewards for the least amount of effort." That about sums up every insipid "model" I see on social media who then gets bent sideways when it's suggested they're only popular because they look good in the skin-tight, and revealing, clothes they wear while doing everyday activities. I always get a chuckle out of beautiful people being shocked (and/or offended) to learn their looks are their defining feature to society.
