I moved to Arlington when I got a job in DC last year. I knew I wouldn't have a car so I experimented with bike commuting. That actually just turned out to be a full blown hobby. On top of the physical confidence I gained from the cycling, I began running and now I'm training for a marathon! I've never felt physically better in my life, and I genuinely think the very solid (by North American standards at least) urban planning makes it so much easier and feasible to be able to enjoy good physical health. It really shows how important cities should be designed.

Hey everyone! I just wanted to share some good news with you all. Let's just put it this way, the Ten Commandments are called the Moral Law. Ask yourself this. How many lies have you told? Have you ever stolen anything? Have you ever used God's name in vein? Have you ever hated someone or ever looked with lust? This is for you to judge yourself, but chances are that you are a lying, thieving, blasphemous, fornicating, adulterer at heart and you HAVE to face God on judgement day. Now ask yourself this. If God judges you on judgement day by these Commandments, will you be innocent or guilty? Of course you'll be guilty because we've all done these things. The truth is that none of us are good people and we NESD God's grace to make it to heaven. We judt simply cannot do it on our own. These Commandments arecalled the Moral Law. You and I broke the law, Jesus payed the fine. So now what we must do to be saved is to repent of our sins and trust alone in Jesus Christ! To repent doesn't mean to just say I'm sorry, but to turn from our sins and let Him truly be our Lord continually. He said that many will say to Him, Lord, Lord I have done all of these things for you. And He will say I never knew you. Depart from Me, ye who work iniquity! And those will be cast into outer darkness and raging hellfire and loneliness for all of eternity!!! Because we broke His law, He is very, very just to send us to hell. If someone had murdered 4 people and said to the judge, I've done nice things too and have tried to treat people nice but it was just one time, the judge would then say, okay but you're going to jail. And the judge is very just to do that. One last thing, if you were 10,000 feet in the air and you had to jump, you wouldn't jump out and flap your arms and try to save yourself. That's ridiculous! You would put on the parachute. It is the same with Jesus. You must trust Him as you trust the parachute. We are not good and we cannot save ourselves with our own goodness. We must trust alone in Him to save us. In just a moment of time you can pass from death to life. Jesus said, "Verily, verily I say unto you, you must be born again." That is how we enter heaven. Through the blood and grace of Jesus Christ!!!!✝️If you ask someone how to enter Heaven, they will most likely say, "Be a good person." Well the Bible says that none is good, no not one. We like to compare ourselves to guys like Hitler and say, "Hey, I'm a pretty good guy compared to him." But when we compare ourselves to God's standard, we realize that the Bible speaks truth when it says that we all sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God!!! When we see this ( our sin in its TRUE light), we see how much trouble we are in and we say, "Well then there's nothing I can do. I'm going to hell for sure then." It's true that there is nothing that WE can do, but there is something that has already been done for you! God sent His One and Only Son to die on a cross as a sacrifice for our sins! So to recieve that eternal sweet sweet forgiveness, all we must do is repent of our sins (meaning to continually turn from them and confess them) and trust alone in Christ as you trust a parachute. If I was to push you out of an airplane, you'd want the parachute for sure! Don't try to flap your arms and save yourself, trust in the parachute! His finished work on the Cross IS ENOUGH!! He is the only way to Heaven, He said it Himself!! These other religions teach that we must he good and do good things and then maybe if we've been good enough, we will enter Heaven. But if that is true then we are all doomed to eternal hell because none of us are good. That's why this makes sense. Look at the Ten Commandments, they are written on your heart right now!! I promise that you have violated them. And you might still be doing that today. Therefore God is just to poor out His wrath on us because we deserve it!! But Christ died for us so that we can spend eternity in Heaven with Him! Turn to Him today, and He and only He will save your soul "Verily, verily I say unto you, you must be born again ( to go to Heaven)."✝️The true joy of Christ dwells in me!!! Does it in you? I know where I'm going when I die! Do you? I have an ETERNAL victory! Do you? I have more joy than ever because of what Christ has done. I have been down both roads. The road of the wicked and the road of Christ. Christ is way better and my cup runneth over with true joy and salvation. If you do not know the One true God and are not sure of your salvation, I promise He will never fail you. Turn to Him in repentance and faith. Repent means to confess and forsake your sins, never turning back to them. I tried changing on my own but I couldn't. It took the power of Christ on the inside of me to do it for me. He will give you a new and clean heart with new and clean desires and you shall be born again. A new creation in Christ Jesus!! Hallelujah!! Jesus said in order to enter the Kingdom of God, you must be born again! Thank you Lord Jesus!✝️

For me as an European many of these things are very normal for me. Cities here are very bike and pedestrian friendly and whenever something is less than 15min by foot i'll walk (most of the times even up to 30min after that i might drive cus im lazy). Fresh vegetables are very normal and part of almost every meal and i was surprised to see the extreme price difference. Take the zucchini as example: those were $2.99/lb, here in Germany i pay about $0.90/lb for it. In fact its alot cheaper to prepare meals at home than eat out (even fast food) which is why most people i know do exactly that most of the time. Same thing with fruit. We always have fruit at home and i eat at least the equivalent of 2 oranges every day.

I grew up in a very poor family that ate like a “typical” southern United States family eats. Health was not a priority. I, like most people just continued with how I was taught until my late teenage years. But even after realizing I wanted a completely opposite lifestyle and falling in love with my health, its taken me my entire adult life to break those habits and “programming”, and build the means to do so. I had 0 knowledge of even how to start, and my access was incredibly limited in many different ways. Environment plays a HUGE part on how and why people live the way they do. Its exceptionally hard to break out of that bubble. These people are also in a bubble, but a privileged one. Thats a sad fact, because everyone deserves this lifestyle if they want it.

@@WinterEdition a lot of processed foods/junk foods like low quality deli meat and cheese, potato chips, fried foods etc. My mom would fry chicken or pork chops and have sweet baked beans (made with brown sugar and maple syrup) on the side, as well as our “greens” like green beans always being cooked with loads of butter. And don’t forget the sweet tea! We also ate loads of McDonald’s and Taco Bell because it was cheap. That was just the way we and everyone around us lived. (And still does where I am from)

I think the privilege is created by the community's will and the community's demands. Since many American states demand fast food all the time, the prominent restaurants are that. And with that comes obesity and less likely athletic individuals, which explains both the abundance of cars and the lack of parks... This makes sense. A small community with the most favoring fitness is what created that privilege. It will only require the demolition of fast food restaurants to start up with an increase in health, but the public and businesses won't allow it as that is the way that profits fast foods and that people think profit them with the idea that health is relative and irrelevant to weight that is highly accepted within many American states.

It's nice to see a video where people are honest and just say, "yeah, we have money, and that REALLY helps allow for a fit, active lifestyle." It isn't just about having health-conscious restaurants and grocery stores, but having an income level that allows people to eat and shop at those places. And you do have to develop these habits and skills and nutrition at an early age, because once the body is set, it can be nearly or completely impossible to change.

Healthy food is not exclusive to people who can “afford” it. For the price of a meal at McDonald’s you can literally get a giant bag of frozen broccoli and a few chicken breasts from the grocery store. I grew up poor in southern Alabama being raised by a single mother and she still managed to feed myself and my brother healthy unprocessed meats and whole vegetables. Now i live in New England which is really expensive and I am now considered middle class thanks to my husband and we shop on sale every week and come home with meats and tons of produce. A 150 dollar shopping trip looks like 10 lbs chicken breasts, 2 lbs ground meat, sometimes frozen shrimp or fish, 7-10 lbs of veggies (broccoli, carrots, lettuce etc) and pasta and rice and misc items. It has nothing to do with being poor, it’s ignorance of how to shop when you have very little money. By living with my middle class husband I’ve come to realize people with money shop like they are poor and that’s how they accumulate wealth over time.

@@Sunshineonmymind714 I love that you think a $150 shopping trip is “budgeting,” and that makes you think other people are ignorant of how to stretch their dollars. As though people with little money aren’t trying to make every dollar go as far as they possibly can, and if they only knew what you do, they’d be better off. I am blown away by the amount of privilege on display. Try shopping on a budget of $20-$50 per week for a family and see how far that money will get you. Growing up poor is very relative to the time you grew up and the place with regard to how far you can make your money stretch to provide different food. It also depends on your definition of poor. It is highly dependent on your personal situation and I’m not going to discount your lived experience, but your experience also isn’t going to convince me to go around and tell people, “Sara B did it and she grew up poor so you can do it too, you’re just too ignorant and lazy and that’s why you are how you are.” That is not only a cruel way to look at and discount others lived experience, but is more harmful because you are closed off and unable to accept that there is any other reason for someone to struggle than they are uneducated and don’t want to put in the work.

My gf and I actually met Will at the new DMV Iron location in Falls Church and we both live in Rosslyn which is a neighborhood in Arlington. Few points: 1) He is right that the parks here are amazing 2) I am data scientist and ML Engineer so enjoyed the stats he kept citing. There are issues with almost every stat but the trend and consistency over the last few years about Arlington anecdotally seem right on point. 3) DMV Iron is actually one of the cheaper gyms in the area (to his point about money not being everything). It is also the best gym I have ever been to in my life (each location) 4) Will and his camera guy were extremely nice, talked to me on two separate occasions and were both happy to talk to any fans that came up to them when we saw them at the Falls Church DMV Iron 5) Not gonna lie, I think Will looks a little more cut in person than he does on these videos. definitely got to get them while their young. when you make exercising fun, the kids don't really realize what they're doing is actually benefitting their bodies in the long run. I used to play football everyday as a kid from 8-12yrs old and I used to be fast and I mean like REALLY fast my stamina and endurance when running was amazing not to mention my overall strength but after going years without playing it's hard to believe I was ever that strong it's like I never even spent 5 hours every day as a kid running around the neighborhood with a group of friends playing football, kickball, soccer, biking. Life felt more REAL back then it's even sadder to say all this knowing that my body is capable of incredible things we humans weren't meant to sit around on our ass' God built us different and yet here I am dreaming about what could or could have been? we need more youth sports cause this unhealthy lifestyle is only going to be normalized to a point where 'working out' will be such an odd term

Certainly green spaces help a lot, but they need to be laid out in such a way to encourage kids to take part in sports. When I lived in the south of the UK, the town council was huge on sports and there were pitches of all types (including a Pentanque court - spellings? - a French style boules game), swimming pools, bicycle tracks aplenty, and a couple of artificial lakes. Marathons were encouraged, long before it became the norm. Footpaths were everywhere. Overweight people were rare. Where I live now in the north, junk food is everywhere, the one swimming pool complex that the townspeople had to wait decades for is more often shut than open, and I have seen no marked pitches on any green spaces. The kids don't use them. In fact, in the 20 years I've lived here, I've never seen kids so much as kick a football on those greens. It's little wonder though, if the council can't use their imagination, the kids will waste it on video games instead.

Great video! You forgot to mention all of the military personnel that live in Arlington or work there. There are fast food joints, but they are smaller chains or standalones like Cava Grill, LebTav, sweetgreen & sweetleaf, Basic Burger. There are other neighborhoods in South Arlington (Columbia pike until you reach Alexandria and east Arlington (Pentagon City and Crystal City) worth exploring.

So funny that he went to Arlington! I am a member at the onelife fitness that he pointed out and I did not know that Arlington is the fittest city. Makes me feel very grateful to have grown up here, biking around here is the best and the entire county is so so walkable.

I think the reason Arlington is such a healthy city is the fact that they put a lot of infrastructure into sports and helping people stay active and making things accessible like they put a lot of money into soccer and basketball and they make sure there are good bike pathes I think that’s really what makes it the fittest city in the world

Thank you, Will. This is very inspiring and motivating and the fact that money is a factor also when you try to live a healthy lifestyle and in healthy environment.

Appreciate the addressing of the wealth-health connection (and how you've done that in the past). So many fitness/nutrition (especially in the intuitive eating realm) KZfaqrs show a privileged lifestyle that ends up discouraging the people who need the encouragement the most.

Easily my favorite video of yours. More content like this, please. This is truly educational - had no idea something like Arlington was a thing in these regards. I actually find that a city that conforms to the data in regards to healthy habit building in terms of their urban planning and SHOWS THAT IT WORKS, IN AMERICA, OF ALL PLACES, to be inspiring and truly fascinating. Yes, more people need to understand that setting up an environment conducive to your health an fitness goals is one of the key foundations that most people are missing. This doesn't just include low-friction access to infrastructures like gyms, parks, and whole food spaces - but access to social circles that value health and fitness goals as well. And I don't believe money is that much of an issue on a micro-level, and you don't have to live in Arlington, Virginia to take lessons from this video. I hope everyone sees this.
