Wild how florida police infringe upon the american human right to open carry a firearm. Hitlers gestapo called, they said theyre hiring florida new york and california cops. Why are our police so often tyrannically sinister and demonic? Its 1984 666. Children on puberty blockers, peoples genetalia mutilated and thats okay but got forbid you open carry a firearm in an age of mass rampage serial killers right???? The president the pope, the judges, all protected with guns but not children in school. Cant have any protection with our education or too many children wont get slaughtered. @@jani724 would think that just like water tanks are normally white, the heat soak from sun is much higher with a black tank. Check out the lip along the tail tube only on the left side that also helps compensating the momentum with the coanda (?) effect around that tube , lower pressure in the smoother side of the tail = sucks the tail to the right side. Also something to note there's a slit along the tailboom that allows high volume low pressure air to escape, turning the tailboom into a wing using the Coanda effect. That is what creates the antitorque, not the directional thruster. The vertical stabilizers take over as speed increase reduces the coanda effect.

Hi Cleetus, thanks for the terrific video!! Looks like a total blast!! I remember watching Magnum PI as a kid. Magnums pilot buddy TC flew an MD5xx. I've loved it ever since. Kinda ironic, but, my first real job was building visual DBs for simulators. The company mainly built computer visual systems (a bit before GPU graphics 😂). On my first day I was introduced to my "review station" which was a 3 x 3 array of monitors with an office chair bolted to the floor in front. There was a real cyclic, collective, and footpedals arranged around the chair. I basically had to learn to fly rotary wing to review my work. I crashed allot but after a few days of persistence I finally figured it out. Like riding a bike... you never forget. The main flight SW I used was for the MH6 Littlebird. So incredibly gratifying and fun! I'm eventually gonna learn how to really fly. As soon as I'm able to afford my own, the MD530F (or similar) will be my first choice.

One thing missing in the NOTAR explanation is the slots on the side of the tailboom that provide the airflow for the "Coanda Effect" which makes the tailboom "fly like a wing" providing a significant portion of the anti-torque in a hover (60-70%). Therre is a good explanation on the MD Website. Most people miss this important point. Also, it is possible to perform the maneuvers Paul demonstrated in the "D" model in the 520N NOTAR with both feet on the floor and not on the pedals. There is a video of this being performed by one of the test pilots when the NOTAR was first introduced. Also, there are several companies using these helicopters to build powerlines by dragging the guide cables using a hook attached to the side of the helicopter so most of the flight is sideways. Neet stuff.

When I was in training, Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburg had 5 MD 902 helicopters which were NOTAR in 1996. They were able to be be loaded from the rear because there wasn’t a tail rotor. Diana Ross performed at the Super Bowl in 1996 and her ride out of the stadium was on an MD 900.

The NOTAR is my favorite helicopter and I watched a guy that owns one and he showed that the NOTAR would do anything that any other helicopter will do but smoother and much quieter. Plus it just sound so much cooler.

Love these videos 👍 it's all foreign to me but is so interesting to watch and learn, plus it's super cool to see these guys set ups and they are kinda similar to car guys but just on a whole other level. The massive garages, aircraft's and super sick properties and they are hooked on it just like we are to cars. I really appreciate you bringing this content to the channel because I probably would have never watched this type of video anywhere else

Flying backwards in a helicopter is one of the oddest feelings I've ever experienced. When I was a little kid my Dad was involved with the local airshow scene, he pulled a few strings and I was able to go up with the Salad Time helicopter stunt team, flying backwards with the smoke on filling the cab completely and not being able to see shit while flying backwards was something I clearly will never forget. 👍👍🚁🚁💨💨

Have worked around a notar , they are common here too and we do have 530Fs and E models as well. Our Venison recovery industry pilots of the 70s and 80s in these machines are reknown, and there pioneering live capture techniques after deer became valuable live for farming crossed over to the likes of the states as well

Just a little note about the NOTAR heli. Most of the counter torque thrust in a NOTAR is actually generated by the horizontal Coanda slot that runs down the side of the tail boom. The Coanda slot, coupled with the main rotor down wash, provides something like 60% of the counter rotation thrust. The remainder of the counter torque thrust is provided by the rotating direct jet thruster at the end of the tail boom. Due to side lift provided by the main rotor down wash past the Coanda Slot, this entire system is about 10% to 15% more efficient than a conventional tail rotor.

Actually, most of the anti-torque comes from the tail boom acting like a big airfoil - the slots along the side of the boom create a boundary layer of air that with the help of the Coanda effect makes the boom work like a Magnus effect wing (this works better at speed). The nozzle is mostly for yaw control. The prototype NOTAR used a cut down Aerospatiale helicopter shrouded tail rotor. We also found the ship has less drag at speed, due to the lack of tail rotor.
