Plus, Never, Never & Never buy a used car from a mechanic; EVEN if it is his PERSONAL car! There is an arabic saying which says : " bābel najjār makhalla", literally translated, it means : the door of a carpenter's workshop is often cracked & rusty. We all know that a carpenter makes good & beautiful wooden pieces of furniture, however, he never cares to fix or repair his workshop's doors. LOL , A measure suits other trades.

I own a 2011 Audi A4 Avant 2.0 TDI S-Line Black Edition. I bought it with 30k miles on it and it now has 130k. It has never caused me any problems and is the most reliable car I've ever owned. I obviously do regular oil changes and services and as long as you look after it it will return the favour in buckets. I will have to change it for a petrol version within the next year unfortunately due to ULEZ emissions changes in London being expanded to where I live and due to it's age I'll have to sell it to someone who lives outside of London. Will be sad to let it go. I wouldn't buy the saloon tbf, it's Evant only for me, they look amazing and have performance and practicality. Ticks all the boxes. From London, UK

Going to have to disagree on this one. I have owned 3 Audi's and currently own a 2009 A4 (164k miles) and 2015 S4 (117k miles) and needed nothing but regular maintenance. It wasn't until 150k that I had to replace bushing / control arms and I did a carbon cleaning on each around 100k. Just know those bushings are gonna go out. In my experience the worst cars are fully loaded BMWs with the electronics upgrades and packages. I owned 3 and had nothing but problems with them. Tons of electrical issues and my turbocharger died in my Alpina at about 27k miles. You would have thought I learned with the first 2 but apparently not.

@Itachi Uchiha Right, always get it checked. Several men I've known sold used cars at dealer lots. All said same thing, when they take a trade in their techs check it out and if it needs more than a few minr repairs they send it to the auction. Those end up at your local independent used car lot. Used cars from dealer lots are a better bet.

I've owned a few A4's with this engine. As long as you keep oil in it, it will run forever. I can almost guarantee that whoever owned this car let the oil run low, and the timing chain tensioners lost tension due to low oil pressure and jumped time causing the valves to crash into the pistons as these are interference engines. After about 2014, they fixed the oil consumption issue. It is important to keep oil in these cars.

I have a 2017 A4 Quattro. I’ve had it since brand new for 4 years now, and I’ve put 95K miles on it. I also tuned it to APR stage 1 at around 40K miles on it. I have not had a single issue since I’ve gotten the car with literally anything. I think a lot of how long a car lasts has a lot to do with how well the owner maintains it.
@race890
@race890 2 жыл бұрын
....it can be just good or bad luck too. Also which country or new factory it is made in. Plus yours is only 4yrs & 95k miles; it can be that the reliability drops at higher miles (logically). Compare it to friends of mine who have owned cheaper cars, Corolla, Mazda, Subaru, Honda; which were still going fine for a 15 - 25 yr old car with 240k km to, even 500k km for the Honda; reliability and low cost to maintain way beyond the original low price. Prestige expensive cars should outlast these cheaper cars proportionally to price ratio. But it is largely the opposite. The prestige cars are bought new by consumers who will usually sell it at the end of warranty or lease period, so the future unreliability doesn't affect them as much. It is the 2nd or 3rd owner who can't afford a new prestige car who pays for the big problems, which is part of the reason why their resale value from new is usually quite low. The stats show that the big Japanese brands are better. Even for the same repairs they are cheaper to fix too. Lexus & Porsche are 2 prestige exceptions where their quality (durability & reliability) is high as an average across their models. The industry stats & experience of many in the industry counts more than a good case here & there. But wishing you get continuous good life out of your Audi. I personally drive a 2009 Landcruiser 200; from all accounts way better than the German options in 2009; Q7, GLE & X5.

....the general statistics for Audi are the proof; parts are very expensive and some of the fancy tech from VAG is not refined enough before releasing it to market; letting the initial buyers be the guinea pigs. Every mechanic says Audi are scary expensive in parts (ha ha exact same identical part bought for a Skoda is cheaper!!!) plus average reliability not as good as average Mazda, Toyota; esp long term. So looking after a Trabant (junk Soviet car) will still not be as good as a Toyota that is not looked after as well as some cars are disadvantaged by poor parts engineering or poor quality as soon as they roll off the production line

The car rolled until it hit a snow bank, no motor, no brake assist, no steering assist, no emergency Brake!!! The dealer found a code that was not in the manual. They phoned Germany. The code signified “Catastrophic engine failure”. They dropped the oil pan and found chunks of metal. The customer was told, “Nobody has this problem.” The customer replied, “I’m not nobody!” True story, I overheard the consult with Audi management.

Earlier this year in January, I purchased a 2007 Audi A4. It had just under 109k miles on it, and I was the second owner. The owner before me seemed to have taken very good care of the car while he had it. Fast forward to now, and after only putting in 4500 miles I spent $1200 on maintenance. Had to replace serpentine belt twice, belt tensioner, front right axle, and had an oil change TWICE. Yes, TWICE. To be honest, I wouldn’t say it’s been a complete nightmare to have. I’m just hoping and praying the thing doesn’t have any more problems by next year, which is when I plan to get another vehicle. Wish me luck.

I bought it salvaged and was able to get in contact with the guy who owned it previously. said he took good care of it. I believe him, it only had 80k miles and ran really well. when i went to go look at the car everything looked great, except for the front end damages. (wasn’t bad, needed a hood, driver fender headlight and bumper) over good condition. all the fluid levels checked out. fast forward I bought the car, found out somewhere along the line after the accident, The cars odometer, speedometer, fuel gauge, back up camera didn’t work. replaced the cosmetic parts, fuel pump. nothing changed. brought it into two of the best European shops in Minnesota (euro charge). they couldn’t find out anything. no I have to bring it to the Audi dealership which is gonna cost a lot. looking back on it I wish I passed up on this car. plain and simple. is it fun to drive and do I have a great time driving it? yes it’s a blast but I wish I would’ve watched this video before I purchased. 160k mile 2.0 turbo here. Vw cc. Still starts on a dime, ran for a few weeks with low oil pressure and a tick off time, but i never put my foot in it and it never blew. Was kind of hoping it would so i could just slap a new engine in but it kept going. Had the timing done and tensioner replaced wont be suprised if it lasts another 100k. These 2.0turbos arent junk just needs a little extra love to accomplish the same longevity

I have seen so many bad reviews on german cars that i am getting scare of getting one., my buddy bought (bc his family is wealthy) his first brand new Benz C Class (don't remember well but it think was c class) just bc he got bored with his Prius (big mistake) he drove that thing back and forth to the Dealer for everything you can think of. Lights went out one night while driving (including the ones inside) but the car was running . Sometimes didn't start, the back up camera glitches. One day the windows rolled up and never roll down anymore.. he was going to the dealership for either mechanical or electrical issues almost every month for 8 months, one day he stopped at a Honda Dealer and trade it for a Hybrid Accord and he said bc the Benz was more expensive he got money back

@@waelmostafa2222 OK, the roads are great, but you forget the Salt on the streets in the winter, the 200 das of Rain every year and the much Higher loads on the engines because of driving faster.. i have to say the a4 i'am driving has very Low mileage For it's age, only 190.000 Kilometer, so 118.000 Miles in 25 years :D... but it also has no turbocharger wich should help in future. But what impresses me, ist that there is nearly no Rust anywhere at the car, it's completely galvanized and they did a great Job in 1995. I mean about 10-12 years of the 25 were in cold Rain/snow and Salt from the street .. the Last 5 years it was used nearly every day for abaut 40-50 Miles a day an the only Major Thing that Broke was the Water Pump... That was all... I think for such an old Car this ist great, so i rather never buy a newer a4 ^^

Had the same issue with my 2007 a4 2.0t. While I was driving it suddenly shut off. No crank. Battery wasn’t that old. Tried to jump it but same symptom. I could hear the starter engage like this car did but wouldn’t turn over. I replaced the battery and on the initial crank I got the same clank from the starter. Kept trying and eventually it turned over and started but sounded like if you threw scrap metal in a dryer. The air conditioning clutch seized up and prevented the engine from starting. It destroyed the a/c clutch but ran fine afterwards

If they got the diesel and know how to take care of it, it will last 500k+ miles easy and cost less than a Corolla but with better performance. But if you rarely let your engine warm up and neglect maintenance, you’ll be better off with the Corolla. The 2.0t isn’t that bad either and has a lot of benefits if you take care of it’s few quirks. This scum bag that sold the A4 never took care of it.
