You draw conclusions way to quickly. The incendiary rounds aren't airburst so you have to actually hit the plane, which you weren't doing. That's why you didn't do a lot of damage.

After having played years of Anti-Air on war thunder, I recommend the four normal machine guns with the german anti-air and combo that with the red hot onions. The 37-40mm anti-airs have always throughout history been used as anti-infantry because when fighting air targets you require quantity over quality. Especially in battlefield, one shot of a 37mm doesn't kill a plane (it should), still need the same amount of time to shoot down air planes with that as the four smaller calibre guns. They should at least make it so that you have a lower fire rate, but higher damage, resulting in more skill based game play as players need to snipe down air planes and if they're good, they can take out wings and etc.

You made the wrong choice. The Bofors 40mm on the Valentine is far superior to the 3 20mm's, Also take the canister shell for the Bofors to get a 40mm shotgun for infantry.

As other people pointed out: The Flaming Onion rounds are *not* airburst, you have to get direct hits. They are most effective when you use the 4x20MM to get multiple hits at once. Best used on short/medium range. They can also be used to create a wall of fire on the ground

I feel that the Base cannon for the Valentine AA (its a 40mm Bofors Cannon) is better for dealing everything else besides aircraft that the triple-linked 20mm Oerlikonn Cannons, especially if you get the shotgun shell upgrade which gives you an option to switch to massive shotgun rounds that 1-2 shot infantry at a pretty long range

The quad cannons (axis, default weapon) and the 3x ones (allies, SIDEgraded weapon) are better against bombers while the single cannons are better against fighters.

They should add AA halftracks to the game. The M16 "meat chopper" with its quad-mounted .50 cals. in particular. Planes AND infantry would have a bad time against that.

I like the AA British tank. I have it fully upgraded. But I use single barrel cuz it good to use for killing ground force 😊

Flaming rounds are good with the default cannons. You get more coverage against the infantry. Its really nice for when they want to push from say C or E to D. Those 3 middle flags will always have a group of people running all at once and you can easily burn them all up. You chew through the ammo pretty quick though.

I find the flares are really helpful to the team too on the British AA tank. The other benefit you mised is the German AA tank can carry a passenger gunner to help watch for ground attacks. The Birtish one doesn't have that.

Dude when your planes land and explode they’re so perfect. On console they bounce around and have a delayed explosion. So unrealistic

Never heard of a valentine tank converted to an AA, I heard of for a crusader because of it's better mobility. What is even weirder is the guns stacked vertically in a enclosed turret that is meant for aa, that just limits its elevation.

Even get a noob pilot on your team to lure in a pro pilot have him chase him into your anti air its a blast. I just got fallout 4 and Im loveing that game ! Thanks for sharing !

You could potentially use the smoke rounds on planes strafing you to get them to crash into the ground.

Single cannon config on FlakPanzer is trash. Default x4 cannons setup is way stronger. RPM, velocity and damage are A lot higher.

Nic the shell the valentine AA that you used Is a timed/altitude activated shell which means it explodes at a certain height

Incendiary rounds are very good against airplanes, I'm using them a lot. Smoke shells are good in Breakthrough to give cover when attacking and I had fun with planes diving on objectives which crashed because of the smoke, or shoot around resupply area on Hamada-G objective so planes crash into the pole -)))

When you aim for a plane that is a little low, the guns stay up, but the bullets are coming out in the right direction, it's a crazed animation

Not sure if it was mentioned in outer comments, but with the AA valentine, the canister shells specialisation does not replace your AA shells, it gives you additional canisters shells you can switch to. So you can still shoot AA shells and switch to Canister shells when infantry come close. Edit: after the fix to bomber flak resistance, the single cannon of the AA valentine is actually a very nice weapon to shoot aircraft with. slower fire, but when you get decent at landing shots consistently, it is very effective. I haven't tried the single cannon of the Flakpanzer, but I would guess it would have a similar effect.

AA tanks where essentially used as explosive sniper machine guns. No one used them for taking out aircraft but people did use them for killing people half way across the map.

The Wirbelwing has 4x 20mm cannons, and yes, it is a very deadly vehicle in War Thunder. Part SPAA, part tank destroyer. The Ostwind, with the 37mm (half shown as a 20mm in BF5 Desc.), in terms of WT, puts out a little bit more kg/s down range than the 4x 20mm.

Air burst smoke is good for stukas, you smoke in front of them as they dive bomb and they may miss, or even better make them crash

trick with the fire rounds. hit the plane with them and switch to regular ammo to shred it

sorry for being this way but the first variation of the flakpanzer 4 is the ostwing and the 4 barreled one is the wirbelwind
