I honestly had never heard of wax packs before this video, but the thing still just looks and sounds like it’s nostalgic. I hope to see more people making their own wax packs. This is good information. Making my own cards could be a good side gig. Having a fancy way to pack them would make them more appealing. It would give the cards a surprise aspect to each pack.

A very interesting process to achieve that look and feel. The bubblegum tape is a pretty neat idea, maybe Zebra gum if it's still around would work as well.

This is an awesome video. Just what I was looking for. 2 👍🏽👍🏽up!!!! But I wonder if you know that the case your gum comes in can cut your gum. You just pull out the length you want and then close it to cut. Just an FYI. Thanks again Scott and I look forward to more cool videos like this one.

Cool how to for old card packs. Bubble tape and tube gum were my favorite gums back when I was a kid. 😋 Update on my project, as of this posting I have the first 6 volumes scripted and have finished the panels and lettering for 146 pages of volume 1.

What kind of printer you use? I’ve never had one that printed worth a damn 😂 I saw in a older video you even printed the cards.

I have had the same problem with printers. I had a Canon Pixma and it worked well for a while, but the ink is expensive. I started using after-market ink and save a lot of money but it eventually stoped printing blue. Because I was not using Canon's ink it voided the warranty so now it's I giant paperweight. I printed the wax packs at the office supply store and the stickers I had professionally printed and and die cut.

Definitely doing these for my comic's cards and tagging you! Question, when you print, do you fit to page or print actual size? I know how the printing part can throw off sizing. Much love and support!

Thanks, I print the labels actual size. You can fit two lables on a standard sheet of printer paper.

I have been wanting to make my own art cards for years now but I didn't want to do it if I couldn't make a wax wrapper like the trading card packs I grew up with in the 1970S- so this video is a godsend! I can't wait to get started. However I have one question though- what printer are you using? I cannot find a color laser printer that comes close to printing accurate colors. All my pinks and magentas look red and the yellows are dull. Any suggestions?

Hey Keith, I’m glad you found the video and that it was helpful. You are definitely the kind of person I was trying to reach with this video. To answer your question I just ended up printing my wrappers on a self serve copy machine at Office Max. (Using the method of attaching the tracing paper to the copy paper as shown in the video) Unfortunately you can’t always get the same vibrant colors as the original wax pack. Those were printed using spot colors and it’s a totally different printing method than what we can do as DIYers. This is the closest I can get to the look and feel of the original wax packs but it’s still an entirely different process.

I have a small screen printing shop, so I am thinking about printing the cards myself on chipboard to get that authentic feel. So now I am wondering if I can screen print directly onto the tracing paper? I never tried it...

Unfortunately no. But the templates I have can be cut out and pasted into an A4 size document with plenty of room to spare.

I'm 32 years old. Stickers and such have been packaged in chromium foil aka plastic my entire life. That is what I find nostalgic. This guy is an actual boomer lolol... WAX packs?! He is chasing an ancient vibe... 😅 The weiner and bun thing is also totally a thing of the past, as buns and dogs have come in the same quantities for quite some years now. Get with the times lol... 😅😅
