If you want the grains to be separate and whole, the you have to put a little oil. I make rice in a rice cooker, but I still put 1/2 teaspoon oil and a couple of pinches of salt.

Extra virgin olive oil shouldn't be used for high heat cooking as it has a low smoking point. Use it for drizzling cold items. :)
