New storytime! These are all of the methods and different material that I've used and continue to use to study Japanese, plus my animated story of how I became interested in it! I think a lot of you will probably relate, whether you're someone who's considering learning Japanese, you're a beginner, or it's something you've been doing for a long time.
I hope you find this video interesting or helpful!

Good to keep in mind. I want to learn Japanese because I want to visit someday and I have a show I like watching that originates from Japan that's very hard to find legally where I live, so if I learn Japanese can simply just use a VPN or go to Japan and automatically know what they are saying when I watch!

The Irony is its actually harder to learn English for any non English native speaker cause of all the grammar even native speaker still get wrong nor matter bout how long Dey speaketh it(dont even get me started on the "spelling police" which is recent history)😹 2nd Hardest is Mandarin where changing the pitch of the word ding can make a whole sentence " ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding" being a newscasfer talking about how clear and blue the sky was today during the weather report with pitch and speed of the dings making the sentence (I blurted out "holy shit that was cool....he made a sentence out of dind")😹

@@Jordan-Ramseswait there’s different languages to Japanese?
@Jordan-Ramses
@Jordan-Ramses Жыл бұрын
@tgil5958 there are 3 different kinds of writing. Kanji is the picture symbols that were imported from China. Kanji is by far the hardest. But Chinese characters don't work for Japanese super great. So they use Hiragana also. Each symbol represents a sound. Like か is ka. It's not hard. Then also they use Katakana for foreign words. It's similar to Hiragana. If they want to write Hotel its ホテル (ho te ru). They use Katakana for foreign words so you don't confuse it with a Japanese word that could sound similar.
@Jordan-Ramses
@Jordan-Ramses Жыл бұрын
@tgil5958 example. Water in Japanese is Mizu. In Hiragana it's みず. In Kanji it's 水. In Katakana it's ミズ. But 水 is the correct way. If you watch anime you will see 水 on water containers. Or if you were going to say 'Nani desu ka?' What is it? You use both Kanji and Hiragana. 何ですか

When I was in the seventh grade, there was a week or two where the topic of my Social Studies class was basically Japan. We spent the first day of the topic talking about Japan's history and how American dominance over Japan began with the eradication of the Samurai, who previously made up the bulk of Imperial Japan's military until America came with their big guns and overpowered the Japanese army because, again, they had big cannons whereas the Japanese didn't. And then we spent the last half of that class watching only the first half of a movie called "The Last Samurai" which was a movie based on that part of Japanese history and then, the next day, we finished that movie and then we watched a documentary on the making of The Last Samurai which was about how the movie is *loosely* based on actual historical events and there were parts that didn't actually happen which, in retrospect, duh! Of course it's not *fully* based on what actually happened during that time. I'm pretty sure Charles or whatever his name was didn't actually have Christian Bale's face. Edit: Oh, and on the last day of that week or two, our class took a field trip to the Japanese Cultural Center right here, in Edmonton. We learned a little bit of Japanese martial arts and we learned how to write our names in kanji. By the way: when you translate my name into Japanese, you get "Nikorai". I think that's cool but my Mom says it's racist. I don't know why she thought that when it was an actual translation. It's like that whole "negro means black in Spanish" thing. I'm not the one who came up with the language, I'm just a messenger.

Visual novels are also a good option for the Japanese immersion, especially if they have voice acted lines - the dialog is usually presented one to two sentences at a time, and you can have the characters repeat the line if there is a word you don't understand. Most Visual Novels that have an English translation patch, have the translation as a separate file, which can be removed easily - this is especially helpful for practicing reading comprehension, because you can play once with the English subtitles to get an understanding of the story and then a second time with everything being in Japanese.

He did say that both Japanese and Mandarin are very difficult to learn but he did it, as you did. I used to speak Spanish fluently but that was 36 years ago. This is so great. I had the same epiphany of "wait, I can actually understand entire sentences of this??", but while listening an Hikaru Utada song (who I discovered through Eva, so it's still weeb related). After this, I began learning Japanese non-passively.

That is about the same way I (and most of my family) learned to speak English My sisters just watched a lot of shows in English and that's how they've learned it (they learned some other languages in that way as well) My class in between the end of 1st grade to 4th grade was pretty bad in English, we needed to learn the abc over and over again because we would've forgotten it in the summer vacation, so in 4th grade we finally learned some other words in English which helped me understan my sisters words in English more, but then I've taken it a step further and caught on to a lot of different words which pushed further in understanding English, by 6th grade I've got my first phone which opened me to a lot of youtube videos and through the context of what people like Vanossgaming, Markiplier etc... I could my Vocabulary extended a lot I still had a few grammatical errors but I was able to speak really well for a 6th grader Then when 7th grade came around I fixed all of my mistakes and become really good in English (I was getting above 90 in every test) In 8th grade my vocabulary extended even further and I became even better in English (every one of my scores in 8th grade was above 95) to the point that in 9th grade I felt like I could already do my finals. (From that point farward I got 98 points in every test I had without even trying) Needless to say that I've never learned for any test in every subject (including English) and I still got very good scores on a lot of them. I only once in 12th grade got a lower score because I was lazy and didn't do a task that I was given (I think it was 75? Whatever) Now I'm Very good at English but I'm sure that I'm missing some words I plan to learn many languages in the future including japanese so this video might be helpful in the future for me Thank you Wolfychu!

I've been seriously studying Japanese for the past 3 months after quitting my long streak in 2020 (Since April) and now I even am in japan, so I can really relate to conversation. Even just a convenience store worker asking me if I want a bag with my 3 packets of ice cream is already confusing, slowly but surely, I'm learning, and that's already good enough for me. がんばって、ウォルフィッチュー!!!

I started learning in College (Australian College, which is Year 11 and 12 and not University) and I was going pretty steady. Sadly once I started Uni I wasn't able to continue studying in a formal setting as I only had time for my actual classes. That also led me to just basically just forget about studying in my free time which has lead me to forget a lot of vocabulary. Knowing that this format of supplementing personal study with just immersing yourself with people speaking it has given me a little confidence that I may be able to pick it up again. Thanks for this video, even if it was 6 months ago that you posted it lol.

I learned how to speak and write Japanese in college, and to this day when I’m reading subs I can sometimes realize that some things get a bit lost in translation. My Japanese teacher once asked me if I was learning Japanese because I liked anime 😅 I lied and told her no.

I've started learning and studying Japanese about 5 years ago but I haven't been able to stay focused on it on the daily likely due to my ADHD or something, but regardless I try to watch as much anime, movies and really any kind of media in Japanese as much as I can to immerse myself greatly in the language, and it's super fun to pull up tanoshiijapanese dictionary and find the origins of different words and Kanji I hear and see in anime. I also recently wanted to start learning German as well because (come on, it's GERMAN, it's cool) and it would be fun to know German and Japanese if I ever move to Japan, because I've heard that Japanese people really like the German language and culture!
