I want to say thanks for making me smile and feeling good and for being so thoughtful and kind to your local ecosystems and being so eco-friendly. Things like ”I didn’t want to destroy his web because I respect his hustle” and other comments regards huntsmans, preserving the goods, repairing and not buying stuff are so close to my mind. We are on separate parts of the world but think alike. Appreciate that! Say hello to strophorus, blue tongues, funnelwebs and of course huntsmans from me. Keep that going bro!

@froggy5672

Definitely agree with this (although this video is pretty old but possibly helpful for anyone who has a cat problem too). Cats are not outdoor animals and if you wanna keep them as pets it’s super important to keep them inside or make an outdoor enclosure for them! I absolutely hate when cats come into my yard, some people have other pets such as birds or rodents that might be outside in their yards sometimes and I’ve seen many pets killed because of people not keeping their cats inside so it is pretty annoying, there’s also the matter of the cats shitting everywhere on someone else’s property (personally been in trouble from my realestate agent before because they thought we had a cat from all the poop outside but it was actually from someone else’s cat, actually had the same issue with a dog too). The more important matter is the native wildlife!! Birds, possums, lizards, snakes, invertebrates and so many more native animal populations are depleting pretty rapidly due to people letting their cats outside. It’s super depressing when these animals are supposed to be here because they’re native and cats should not, but they are killing so many of them 😔 I’d never hurt a cat but sometimes when people don’t listen and think their entitled asses can let their destructive animals roam freely around the place, I just get cat traps and take the cat to the pound until the owners learn to keep it inside, pound fees are super expensive but sometimes it’s the only way people will learn. Sorry for rambling and this comment isn’t supposed to be rude but I really hope more people see this and consider doing the right thing and keeping your cat indoors or in an enclosure!
@whoahanant
@whoahanant 3 жыл бұрын
You shouldn't let your cats outdoors in the first place. Instead give them a catio or cat pen you can make them or buy them and fill it with cat safe plants. This way the cats get to go outdoors but they won't leave your yard and keeps them safe. Alternatively you can harness train your cats and take them outside.

I'm an Aussie and I live in Brisbane. I have a serious fear of spiders, insects and reptiles. However, I don't think in my entire life, have I ever seen a huntsman, or any other large spider living inside my house. I have seen some lizards, but they're just small geckos. Then again, it could be because I live very close to Brisbane city, and live in a very urbanised place.

7:10 try doing it with crows. My grandmother told me stories about my great grandmother who used to feed bread to crows everyday. The crows would steal shiny things and give them to her as gifts. They would also come whenever she called them. Although she did not summon them to attack people, I think it would work. Crows and ravens are the world's most intelligent living things before humans. I understand that it may be hard to get many crows in Australia. I used to live in Bangladesh. The country only has three types of birds: crows, sparrows and pigeons. Crows are the most dominant one. To be honest I wanted to try doing it but my parents didn't allow. I left Bangladesh when I was 17 and never got the chance. There are no crows in New Zealand.

When I lived in Florida, I would leave the large huntsmans alone because they'd literally just chill in the same 4-5 spots looking for food. Even named one. But the smaller ones would go outside, because every time I let one stay, without fail, they'd wind up in my bedroom hanging out on or right next to our bed, and it would turn into an absolute ordeal to get them out.

You can set up a few UVB lamps for the skinks so they can have some faux sunlight during winter. Just set them up by the pond and they'll be happy and healthy. Maybe you can get a large algae eater fish in there. Common plecos grow up to a foot long, so maybe not that big, but bristlenose and clown plecos grow to about 5 inches. Big enough to not be a target for skinks.

They wont. Any aquascaper will tell you, shrimps aid in the cleaning process, but they're a tiny fraction of it and if you don't clean rhe algae yourself in a low tech tank, or through a filtering pump, you will keep having algae. Actually, fast growth plants can be way better to deal with algae, as they will outcompete them for the Nitrates in the water and the other key elements they both need.

Very wise words on the huntsmans there, that they don't normally hurt people and actually keep the house clean of dirty bugs like cockroaches. And that's damn sad about the cats, especially losing your bluetongue. I live in NZ and cats are a huge problem with our native wildlife too. I went from loving to lothing cats pretty quick. You should try cat-proofing your yard, I can't imagine it's too hard.. make that fence gate extend further down so there is no gap and put some spikes on the fence all around your yard.
