youll notice when lil Jody sees Django in the mirror during his appearance his face is obscured by some dirt on the mirror. i suspect by his voice she can't discern his race, and he's dressed well. i also suspect this was done on purpose.

"It’s quite accurate for a valet outfit. Not colour, per se, but valets did wear that. It’s not an exact copy of the ‘Blue Boy’ Fauntleroy suit (painting by Gainsborough), but it just pops off the screen. At first Quentin thought it wasn’t bright enough and I thought “are you kidding? He is a moving target!” What’s so great is when Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz) takes him to buy it. Jamie’s thought was “my character’s been in rags. If I saw something like that, I’d think it was for a king.” It’s vintage faille from the 1970s; it’s beautiful. But those grooves in the faille - thank goodness they didn’t reflect. It looked really rich. The best thing was that Jamie loved it." - Sharon Davis, Costume Designer

I think my favorite part of this scene is that, when Jodie looks into the mirror for who her savior is, the dirty mirror only shows the body, not the face, further adding to the "legend" of Django. Thats how I see it anyway.
@DaveDexterMusic3 жыл бұрын
I only just realised, Django's reflection in the mirror at 1:15 has no head. Not sure if it's dirt/grease or Tarantino having his fun and removing it in post - to show how the brothers didn't recognise the slaves as people? That's he's a faceless hero? That Jody, craning to see, can only see the clothes and not the man? The mirror reflection is definitely on purpose, so there's something being said there, but I don't know what.
@Brenden20063 жыл бұрын
Nah, you can see his head is there. The mirror is just rlly dirty.

I also just noticed. I'm really curious as well. I can find myself in your explanation of him being a faceless hero. No ego, not knowing why he does it, but still doing it.
