I am fortunately in a place to give a bit. I watch your videos with one of the kids I work with. He is 4 years old however knows more about engines and cars thanks to you and Chrisfix. You've also inspired me that I really want to convert a Subaru Baja to electric so thank you for showing me that converting cars is a thing that can be done! I hope everything works out soon for you. Being laid off is stressful.

Talk to Zack and Dan to get more detail about the algorithms, but I think if you do more focused videos more often and make sure the video lengths are optimal for the most revenue you'll be better off than doing the long videos every couple/few weeks. You can also diversify your channel or make a second channel if you want them more focused with other content than just the one build so you get more diverse subscribers. Lastly, the collabs with other channels like what you did with Zack on the Electric HMMWV really help get your channel out there. If you decide to diversify the content, find a common subject with another youtuber and do a collab to break inot the subject.

Man, I'm really sorry to hear about the job situation. As someone who plans to start my project in earnest in the near future, I can only imagine the stress of the financial uncertainty you are going through right now. Your videos have inspired lots of folks to take on projects that we may not have been willing to try before, so I personally say thanks for putting yourself out there on KZfaq. I buy a lot of things on Amazon and will start using your affiliate link for all of that as an ongoing assist. Your company sent a clear signal to the rest of their workers… “We have no loyalty to our best, brightest, and most loyal employees.” I know if I were there I’d be job hunting immediately, so I imagine they’ll be seeing some more turnover in the next year or two. Hope everything works out. These road blocks are sometimes exactly the forcing functions we need to find growth we didn’t know we were missing! We’ll be here to support you as best we can!

This is a real thing in modern day America. ZERO loyalty from corporations, to either their employees or their customers. I'm not judging whether this is good or bad, it just is. We need to all know this and plan accordingly. Best job hunting luck to you sir!

I was laid off as a part of a restructuring after the 2009 financial crisis. Compared to a personal firing, a layoff where they are basically cutting costs is easier to take in my opinion, exactly because it is not personal. If you are laid off because you did something wrong, it is harder to get back on top again. I recently talked to an earlier manager and was told that she would not personally have let me go, compared to my team colleagues. it didnæt give me a job, but it did give me additional peace of mind.

Time to become a fulltime KZfaqr, you've got the foundation for it, so just do daily vlogs/builds. They might only be 10/15 min long but it's progress on the car and people will automatically start joining up, sharing ect.

You might even consider referencing this channel on your CV, as these videos demonstrate a ton of skills that are highly desirable for employers. Wishing you the best of luck. In the meantime, try not to stress too much about the job search. Take some time for yourself, spend time with your family, kind of treat it like an extended vacation. At least you have this KZfaq stuff to keep you busy whenever you need a project to work on.

Congrats. I say that because few of us with a long term, established career would not willingly make life changes like this unless forced upon us. I was in the same boat 6 months ago (similar age to you; led a team, great job, kids, responsibilities etc). Took me 6 months to find my new path and I’m now much happier in my new role (despite being happy in my last one). My advice having just gone through this is to enjoy this time. It IS A gut punch ane I felt the exact way you are feeling. But become comfortable with what’s uncomfortable. The best things in life happen outside of our comfort zone. I have no doubt you’ll treat this time as a 9-5 endeavor and spend the needed time calculating next moves. But also take advantage of this flex time to reflect, mentally rest, take a solid full day here and there to go for drives, explore things, learn a new skill etc. If for anything; do it to keep your sanity and mind fresh. Then when you hit the ground on this new road it will be from a good mental place. Hopefully they gave you a package of some sort so you can ease into this major life change. Good luck!

15 years at my job and was laid off out of the blue. It's devastating because it's not like you did anything wrong otherwise they would just find justification to fire you. It's like hey we love you, you are great, we just don't really want you anymore. I feel for you man. It's shaking. I have lost a lot of confidence in myself and feel like I should have done more. I'm learning to be kinder to myself and realize my family isn't disappointed in me. I wish you all the best and that you can find your way quickly. Keep your chin up

I love your videos and have always been inspired by your creativity and willingness to push through, learn, and be grateful for the experience! Being laid off sucks, it has happened to me a few times and it never feels good. I hope you find an even better job soon and everything works out well for you and your family! One idea was maybe you could charge admission to do a meet and greet and let people come see you and your cars somewhere and you could sign shirts or something? I would pay to come to something like that! Not sure if you’d be open to it but you could probably charge extra to allow people to drive your last build once around a small track or something like that, (though I understand you may be hesitant to do that.) Maybe also reach out to someone like Mark Rober and see if he’d be willing to give you a shoutout or do something with you! Anyway, I hope this helps and wish you the best!

I would add one more suggestion. Everything you have noted is fine, and may or may not help with moving forward… but the one suggestion you neglected to note, which may be the best option for long term survival, post your resume, or at the very least, the type of industry your proficient in, because in my opinion, a job would be the best option, and I’m willing to bet there are plenty of viewers in a hiring position, or in various industries looking for quality people.. (in my case, IT security folks, specifically red teaming, sast and dast testing, all of which are 6 figure jobs, of course that assumes you’re in my industry. But I think you get the point)

Dude judging off of what you’ve been able to do building things nobody else has ever done….they lost an asset. That type of creativity and mindset is not something you can buy or learn. They’re gonna be sorry one day bro! Stay safe and for my own enjoyment please keep the videos rolling. I came for the hummer and stayed for the mindset, I’ve been there before in much less impressive ways with challenges during electric bike and skateboards builds. I have issues where I have to reach out for help from pros during those, im not sure my mind is even capable of constructing an idea of what you’ve been through, but If it’s anywhere near what I think it is then you’re a legend who should be in history book man!

I was lucky, or not to work on my first job for over 12 years until I got sick and retired. But over time the company changed a lot and got sold 3 times to new owners.

Getting fired was the by far the most stressful thing I’ve lived through. It’s been 6 years since it happened. Also, unexpectedly was the best thing eve. It was the kick I needed for personal development, realizing there are so many opportunities, and many other benefits. It’s still tough, it’s still depressing, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. Stay strong friend.

Sorry to hear about your situation, your videos supply motivation to many of us dude.I’ve had the same thing happen to me at a big company, I now have the best job in the world, single dad and I fix up and flip auction cars on the side for pocket money. Peace bro

Relatively new to your channel but really like your technical apprach to your work. Those 3rd party engagement survey companies probably have a few more years to run before the fad goes away. In the meantime companies are getting highly detailed and very questionable outcomes.

Sorry to hear. As someone about to start a smaller scale EV build, and not monetized at all, I know how much the fabrication costs alone can be. Good luck. There is tons of work out there right now, especially in tech if that is where you were.

Can't wait to see more progress on the car. I think the diy ev builds are a niche that nobody is covering very well so I hope you can continue. Maybe this will be the push your channel needs to really blow up like it deserves. (can't wait for all those used tesla drivetrains on the used market!)

I been watching your channel ever since jerry made a video about your first build. I find these projects really interesting. I would suggest updating your Logo to make the apparel sales better. maybe make different versions and let us vote. BTW make another Video of the old car and how you been using it.
