These days I call it "forced comedy". It doesn't come naturally like it did with I Love Lucy. The shows back then felt all natural. It felt it was just them being themselves. You mentioned the 90s, one show that comes to mind is Fresh Prince. That was them being themselves.

Pure comedic brilliance! This is what you get with theater trained comic actors and performed live, no less. I love Vivian Vance playing it completely straight and without irony. If this doesn't make you smile, nothing will.

We are so blessed to be able to watch this clip over and over and over. If you watch it five times and focus on the facial expression of each of them, one at a time you see things that you’ve missed before. This is a classic!

'Tennessee' Ernie Ford appeared on only 3 episodes "Tennessee Ernie Hangs On", "Tennessee Ernie Visits", and the Season 4 episode titled "Tennessee Bound". In my opinion some of the funniest episodes of the show. In just three episodes he established himself as an icon far beyond the number of appearances just as did Earnest T Bass did in Andy of Mayberry.

Human cartoon character Howard Morris played Ernest T . He was one of the talents that supported Sid Caesar in early TV comedy with Coca and Carl Reiner . i also believe he directed some episodes of TAGS . Ford should played a Mayberry character like Howard S. but that's water over the bridge .

Yes whenever I see country-oriented episodes of I LOVE LUCY I always think of them as precursors to THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW and THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES, especially the DANNY THOMAS SHOW episode that introduces Andy, Aunt Bea and Opie when Danny speeds through Mayberry and gets jailed.

I’m 31 but have loved “I Love Lucy” since I was around 6, she and the cast has always captivated me. I love the black and white picture. I love antiques as well. Love this song. I never get tired of the show and have watched so many times

The chemistry from all five of them come out on this number, so many nuances to emphasize that point. Bottom line together the I Love Lucy show isn't the same without the synergy of their partnership on the show. Timeless talent and entertainment!

One of the funniest parts of this vid is at 1:08, the look Ernie gives Ricky after Ricky does the "Western Swing Yell". Also, at 1:59 the look Ricky gives Ethel after she does the "rooster crow". Hilarious.

One of the main things that separates ILL from more recently high esteemed sitcoms was their music. This is an example of music for comical effect . Not many sitcoms had music at all . ILL was one of the few that had music and had music for comical effect and sketches within the sitcom itself !
