I have always really loved the MATX form-factor, it has the best proportions for a single GPU system in my opinion. However, there is one big problem with the form factor.

You touched on this a bit but I’ll expand a bit more - I think manufacturers see mATX as a budget option. If you’re buying a board under $100, chances are it’s mATX. ITX is still niche so it’s generally higher priced with extra features and ATX is left for the “SUPER HIGH END BALLS TO THE WALLS” builds which leaves mATX in a weird position. I’ve really only used mATX builds for myself because of their price, but I generally also prefer smaller builds because I move every year or two so it works for me. But yeah. No high end X series mATX boards blow Also - petition to make everyone say “zed” instead of “zee” 😎 nice vid dawid

It’s funny how I’m in this predicament as I need to upgrade my pc with most probably a zen 3 build. After going super small with itx using the NCase M1, I’m frustrated with coolermaster deciding to appease the sffpc subreddit users to make the NR200 around 18L. If it had some minor cable routing options and could reliably fit up to 165mm height cpu air coolers with the side mounting bracket, I would have bought it right away. The Lian li tu150 kinda fits the bill, but I wish the top was used for room for two 120mm fans, while the front panel had room for two 120 fans. I have a spare Silverstone tj08e, but with the outdated storage drive cage design and lack of high end matx boards for X570, I get the feeling things won’t change for matx X series amd boards for zen 3.

B450 Aorus with Ryzen 7 2700X here, the VRMs have been my concern since day one. But to be fair my system has been very stable so far with actually pretty good performance. The point is, mATX makes a lot of sense for people like me that wants to put their PCs on the desk because, due to my room's furniture, I don't have much space to put a Full ATX system. Yes Dawid, I have a soft spot for M-ATX systems. I have a MSI Aegis 3 as one of my rigs. It's not the most powerful system I own, but it's still perhaps my favourite. I purchased it a couple of years ago specifically as I was looking for a small form factor that packs a great punch. It's only 30cm (12") high at the front and 40cm (less than 16") deep, yet the model has multiple options for people depending on budget, from 1050 - 1080Ti, system processors vary and the ssd, hdd, ram etc are all expandable due to the clever case design. The built in WiFi is the best I've experienced for reliability and the system is as quiet as a mouse, even under heavy load. The case doesn't take up much space on a desk and is a handy size (clever carry handle build into the design) to transport around to friends/relatives for a gaming/VR night, another reason I purchased it, a desktop rig with portability. It's a really nice looking case as well. I think it won a design award, great performance for size. I would like to do a M-ATX build from scratch though if I can find the right case and motherboard etc.

It's still a good choice for budget/midrange builds, though. Slap a B450 or B550 with a six core Ryzen and a midrange GPU in there, and you come out significantly cheaper than an ATX board/case combo. The only reason I don't do that is because I have both a sound card and a wireless card that aren't great choices to sit right next to a hot GPU.

I've got the same affliction...Haven't had an ATX board since my Abit KT400 socket A/462. Now, I have 2 Ryzen ITX, the gigabyte ab350 gaming ITX, and the Asrock Fatality B450 ITX. The other 3 are Gigabyte's B450M-D3SH, Asrock B350m-HDV and B450Mpro4. The best MATX case I've found is the CoolerMaster NR400 (it's a LOT like the Meshify C mini) And, the N200 works pretty well, too. Looking to put the DS3H is a slim micro running a 3200G...And ideas?

So far im in love with my matx build. Here's what I got: Thermaltake Versa H18 with 5 case fans, 3 in front, 1 up top, and 1 in the rear. The case itself isnt the largest thing in the world, but its really good for the price, especially with the mesh front Asrock B450m Pro4 Ryzen 5 2600x (saved a ton of money bundling this with the motherboard at micro center) Rx 5600xt (kickass card btw) 8gb ram with 8 more coming s o o n Im about to throw a wifi card into this from ASUS thats bluetooth capable. I couldnt find any solid options for matx wifi boards, which doesnt make sense given that its still a somewhat portable systen compared to atx and wifi boards arent uncommon in mitx. I wish there was more capability for built-in wifi, but i guess thats what i get for getting an incredibly valuable setup for, again, my first build. The size of the case is perfect for what I need, and I hope I can stick with this size, or smaller, for the rest of my life

I love my B350m Bazooka when i first built my PC back on October 2019 and im also in the bandwagon in the MATX builds maybe manufacturers are focusing more on people that want to overclocked their rigs but im not in that group or ever want to OC mine, I started with an Athlon 200ge and gradually upgraded the parts and eventually got the Ryzen 5 2600 for the CPU Upgrade. I might upgrade the GPU from a RX 580 to an Nvidia GPU like the RTX 2060 when prices are lower when the RTX 3000 comes out. and im keep this rig till i plan to upgrade to maybe like when Ryzen is at 6th gen or above.

My fist motherboard was the MSI b350 bazooka. It was a pretty decent board, and I have found it online for like $70. Itx boats cost too much and most of us do not use the full potential of a full ATX board (I do because I have multiple expansion cards in my computer. But most people really would like the flexibility of an M-atx board.

Just built a mATX in the CoolerMaster Q300L a few days ago. Ryzen 5 3600X, RTX 2060 OC, and a Kraken M22 AIO. Mobo was a Gigabyte B450 DS3H. My biggest problem with the mobo was the lack of fan headers. I had to buy an adapter with voltage control that plugs into the PSU and had 5 fans plugged in. Runs beautifully but it is annoying.

I love mATX format. Actually all my motherboards from the past were mATX. Currently I have SilverStone SG03-F case and I think it's the smallest one where I can fit some usefull expansions, that most modern small cases don't have (like card reader or blue ray). I have three cards: gpu, TV tuner and sound card. It's pretty full with stuff. Unfortunately it's hard to make it silent, as it's not really designed to have good airflow... but I love it anyway.

I still love MATX, you can fit a gpu, a cpu, all the ram and not have a honking great desktop. its not like sli or crossfire is a thing anymore. ATX just has a whole bunch of PCIe slots that will be empty forever and MITX is so compromised that your GPU will set itself on fire.

The real problem with mATX is the fact that outside of a few decent cases, most of them are over-sized for no reason, and take up just as much--and more in many cases--desk space than regular mid and full towers when ignoring height.

The newly released Coolermaster NR200 is probably the best mainstream mini itx right now for the price and size. It’s basically a cheaper, but bigger NCase M1. the first PC I buy with my own money was a Dell Inspiron Desktop, and as all OEM PCs it comes in MATX size. And I just got used to the size, when I finally built one myself I went with ATX primarily because the small shop that I went to only carry ATX boards, and after building the thing it just looks humongous, I just can't stand the sight of it on my desk. So it has to stay under the desk, ugh. After that system goes through it's useful life I have been building MATX ever since

I'm using that same case. I absolutely love mATX. It isn't super compact like ITX but it doesn't waster a lot of space like ATX does. I'm not going to have four expansion cards, so I don't need a full size ATX, but I don't want to sacrifice cooling and ease of maintenance like you do with ITX. mATx is just such a nice middle-ground.

I'm more an ATX / Full tower kinda person myself, but I did build an M-ATX computer that resides in my living room, and I gotta say, the M-ATX case I used was far superior to the mid-tower I used for my ATX build. Bucket loads more space for drives and what not and in some ways easier to build in. This was an AMD build around the B450 days and had a number of mobo options available. Could it just be that the X570 is still very new and manufacturers are covering the larger markets first? (ATX / ITX) Or perhaps its a geographical thing and they don't release / announce them over there as the demand is too low. (I haven't looked in the past year)
