Technically the match was from February but I finally got around to making a video for it haha. The score was 14-21, 21-13, 13-21. He was really good. He had good footwork, shots were super deceptive, and some of his shots had angles I wasn't expecting, like those overhead cross court smashes omg... It was definitely a fun match, and I saw that there was a lot I could work on! :D
Sign up to get emails from me :D I'll send updates to videos as well as random badminton thoughts~

Lemme share my secret mantra :- 1) When you get bested by 13 yr olds blame it to their coaching and younger energetic and superior endurance. 2) When you get spanked by 33 yr olds then blame it to their superior strength and years of game experience. But most importantly, 3) Never ever blame YOUR lazy ass self. Cheers.

first if all i love this channel :) now my analysis: you're clearly weaker in the backhand side and the reaction time is much slower compared to your smooth forehand side, the 8th grader's weakness is also the backhand but you didn't make him move that much as you did to other opponents, you cannot tell me he outspeeded you or has more stamina because you just used much more energy for those corners than him.... good luck taking revenge! :) Greetings from "I love badminton Belgium" (facebook group)

Haha thanks for the feedback! Yeah my backhand side is weaker, but I would say my forehand side isn’t that strong either. There’s lots of things to work on for all my shots 😅😭

Just some additional thoughts...your clear was not deep enough, in most cases and that was how he piled the attack pressure. You also won points this way but you had more non-base clears than him. After you cleared / lift, you centre of gravity was a little high too. Your opponent was managing and dictating the pace for you to follow, perhaps consider higher lobs and / or double strokes (from the front) to break the speed and momentum. Yes, he has a back hand problem too and ought to be exploited more. Just sharing only ya cuz really admire your zeal to improve.

Important things you should keep in mind when you play on a player who is more stronger than you. 1. Tactics, find where is he weak in as many least rallies as possible. 2. Try to add deceptions while you push the shuttle, kind of frustrates few players. 3. Net shot are to be played when you are confident, when you have less points, weak hand side is to be target. 4. Weak hand always doesn't mean backhand, long corner of forehand is also a weak spot for most of the players. 5. Service and return, try to be flat and gain confidence, then play smashes. 6. Be confident at any point of the match. Its important to be confident. Hope this helps.

I just found your channel and starting to subscribed after watching few videos. Any this video reminds me of the same when I was about your age got trashed by local kids age around 11. But looking at the video there is clear footwork distinction between the kid in yellow and yours. With his right footwork he manage to control the game and leaving you scramble everywhere just my opinion.

deception makes it really hard to tell if your just bad or hes messing with you! Really good to see your open to posting losses. One way to win with kids is to play a game that messes with their rhythm and frustrates them. Once you win your first ten points automatically with minimal effort we can actually win the match. There is a reason as to why we have categories in badminton like juniors and men's even when the power difference doesnt matter that much. Kids hate losing. They are forcefully taught that losing is wrong. Works very well with them.

hey man, i've played this kid before when he was like in 6th grade. He clutched it out on me, but kids for sure insane. From my experience, when you go vs training kids, you can outrun them cus their consistency is too good. What you should try to do is outpace them and attack either deep in the back, or high in their face because training kids don't practice it that often.

Why I have a feeling that you were losing on purpose :D. Of course his shuttle placement were really good; however, there were also many opportunities where you could put in more dangerous shots and you didn't. It felt like you were finding the sweetspot where you lost but still put up an enough challenge for the boy. Maybe you want to boost his confidence xD, idk.

Think the kid got better net shots and you're forced to lift for most of the net exchanges. Otherwise think the skills difference between you two can more or less covered by the fact that you're taller and fitter. The other thing I guess is that you can use backhand in some of the cases to allow you to get to the next shot better.

The kid has no backhand, keep spamming that wing with an offensive clear. Make him work, you're not maximizing the court coverage. Make him do diagonals as probably the kid is not that fit yet. Don't smash until necessary or sure; remember this is singles not doubles don't need to finish every rally quickly as fitness is most likely the limiting factor. Also when returning to the center of the court be bias to which side the shuttlecock is on. And lastly, you gotta master the split drop technique is it very helpful in singles.

Your defense is ok but you have very little offense in your game … the opponent was dictating the play the majority of the time.
