UPDATE: the 12-hour window within which we should have heard that Gonzalo made his way successfully into Hungary expired 7 hours ago. In my exuberance at seeing him in this video I fear that I have rejoiced too soon, I am now feeling gutted and join many others in being sick with worry as to Gonzalo’s fate. ••••••••••••••••••••••• Gonzalo, Not a day has passed that the many who cherish you have prayed for your safe return! I was initially relieved but understood that the danger is still ahead and very real. If I don't see another video with you saying you made it across, I will be calling my reps and radio stations.

The official KZfaq channel of the U.S. Department of State posted a video briefing yesterday (08/01/2023) in which at min 26:00 appears a reporter asking a congressman about the state of Gonzalo Lira with regards to his attempt of crossing the border in Ukraine. The reporter, before asking the congressman for the current situation and whereabouts of Gonzalo, first talked about some of Gonzalo's events in prison (his torture and extortion in prison); but the congressman evaded answering the reporter's questions due to lack of evidence about his claims (about Gonzalo's "unproven" case of torture and extortion in prison). (Theory) I think the congressman just wanted to save face and avoid answering the reporter because getting involved in any form of political tension with Ukraine's authorities looks bad for him in the eyes of both the government and his political party, as with the current war in Ukraine the US has a lot of stakes under the table in the form of huge illicit international contracts (weapons supply and other forms of company deals) to funnel money into key political figures (Hunter Biden's case, and God knows who else...) and cannot be seen to go against the Ukrainian regime and its authorities, lest the Ukrainian government uncover the lid on some of these cases. (Facts) Gonzalo wanted the people who watches him on KZfaq and cares about him to make noise in order for him to have a fighting chance to be released by the US embassy in case the worst happens and he gets arrested and sent to an Ukrainian labour camp for 5 to 8 years. I don't know why the congressman evaded the reporter's inquiries so quickly, but in light of the facts that Gonzalo hasn't published a new video yet being in Hungary, we have to assume the worst, that he might have been arrested already. For everyone calling him an idiot for posting this before trying flee the country, the video was posted at 1AM local time, this was clearly made several hours before he tried to get out and set on a timer to publish later in the event he got detained. A smart move otherwise we never know what happened to him!

Anybody who sticks their neck out and tries to tell the truth about anything today is at risk.
