Here on my channel I share my journey, topics for adoptees, my vlogs, and support for others adopted, including their stories and journeys with my An Adoption Story series.
As a Russian-New Zealand adoptee, adopted at the age of two from an orphanage in Arkhangelsk, Russia, I share what I've been learning on my journey with my upbringing here in New Zealand, my current life, and how I connected with my birth family. I also share what my bloodline means for me with those connections from Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan.

Alex, did you grow up knowing any children adopted from Russia? You said your parents knew from other people about Russian adoptions. Did you grow up knowing any of their adopted children? (other than your brother)

Hi Alex, are you allowed to get a Russian passport and keep your NZ passport at the same time? Just curious because my country doesn't necessarily allow such a thing. Amazing video, as always ;-)

@@alexgilbert Wow that's really cool. I somehow wish we had this in Germany. I know a lot of people who had to give up on one of their nationalities (or do you say citizenship), which can really make people sad. I mean, after all it's just a piece of paper in some way, but to them it seemed like having to give up a part of what they are. And in the end it also meant losing real possibilities. I feel sorry for people who are forced to do so by one of their nations. And I'm very happy for you that you can keep both! 👍

I wonder if you and others from same orphanage also feel a sort of kinship? 🌷 I realize it would cost a lot of $$$ but wow if your Russian family could come to New Zealand! (Would make a fantastic.video for th e rest of us, too! )

Alex Gilbert was lucky to have foster parents. But Dima Yakovlev was not so lucky. He was killed by his adoptive parents from the United States, like other kids from Russia - Vanya Skorobogatov, Maxim Kuzmin ... Fortunately it ended in Russia passed a law prohibiting the export of children to the West. Russian families have grown rich over the decades and can themselves adopt orphans and provide them with a happy childhood without the "help" of the West.
