Күн бұрын

My woodworking workshop certainly isn’t big but at the same time much larger than I’ve had in the past, I’m super lucky to have the space I do.
Really sorry shot the terrible microphone placement meaning pants sound unfortunately. I’ll get it sorted!

So, so glad I found your channel. Age and poverty taking their toll at this end but so much inspiration from your videos. I have been considering French Cleats and now I am happy to go ahead. Restricted space here ...8' x 8' so watching your ideas are a prime source of help. Thank you Dean, very much

Hey Mate, I think you have done a great work. I love that vice. I will find a new home for it if you change to something else (hint hint) LOL. With your disabilities, you did a heck of a job fixing your shop up. You get a big star from me. I am looking forward to you putting the router in place.

Thanks! I got a crazy amount of help from my wife and Dad to get things where I wanted them, it would have taken me months to attempt on my own. The big old vices like mine are always on marketplace, and they’re fun to refurb. Unfortunately the quick release and thread catch on mine is stuffed so I have to think of a solution when I can get around to taking it off the bench

well done. Like you i'm on a tight budget and what I can with what I've got or can get hold of.Lumberjack tools do a great Thicknesser. Making items out of free pallet wood and selling them I've nearly made my money back.

I have seen that one Simon! There are a couple of Budget makes I’m thinking about, but I’m confident I will be researching my face off before getting one. I think it’ll be a bit before I can afford one though.

Your shop is growing but all shop’s should. I like your dovetails on the wall and your art. I have art on my walls I think your shop should be a place you enjoy being in and enjoy spending time there if you don’t enjoy it what’s the point? Thanks for sharing

Looking better.! (so's the workshop by the way) My problem is where to start. !!!! I've got so much "useful, it'll come in handy sometime crap" i don't know how to find places for it.
@WoodworkJourney
@WoodworkJourney Жыл бұрын
I had loads of that. Took a lot of brutal ‘So I really need this thing’ honestly with myself to get rid of a load. My advice though, on a nice day get everything out more or less, put back the essentials, then go through the rest being harsh with yourself

@@WoodworkJourney . Yeah that is/was my "plan" . And now that the weather seems to be improving the cherry on the cake is I've ricked my ankle and developed excruciating sciatica , *plus*.as you had an issue with your roof, I've got rain seeping up from the bloody floor. .......but hey ho I'm told this is all "character building".

Great little shop you've got Dean! The fire extinguisher is a smart idea, have googled it since I saw you use a powdered one. I always thought the powder gets into everything when you use it, destroying all electric appliances in the room. But most sites say to go for an ABC extinguisher - which I believe are the powder ones. Any thoughts on that?
@WoodworkJourney
@WoodworkJourney Жыл бұрын
Sadly no thoughts buddy, I’ve done zero research and it’s many years since my offshore fire safety training. I know I’d prefer to risk getting powder in tools than lose my workshop though. I’m also a guy that when welding managed to set fire to his own fireproof overalls he was wearing and didn’t realise until things were getting warm
@c.a.g.1977
@c.a.g.1977 Жыл бұрын
@@WoodworkJourney Yes, I would prefer my total woodshop over a few firetools as well! Only thing I've got is a waterhose for the garden (that barely would reach the door of my woodshop!). Setting fire to some that's fireproof - now that is a skill on its own 😂 Stay safe there, mate!

Fantastic video - so many ideas that are going to help me as I set up - the dust collection is a priority for me to improve! I think I could replicate that system - would you recommend?? Also - I am building a router tabke but haven’t decided how to do the lift mechanism - would you recommend your current system? I can’t afford a plate haha Love the style of presenting, wish I had the confidence to do similar in my videos!
@WoodworkJourney
@WoodworkJourney Жыл бұрын
Thanks dude! I’m really happy with my dust collection, the 40mm pipe and home made blast gates have worked really well. Obviously it can’t take big chips from the planer or tablesaw, but for most other things it’s grand! The lift I’ve used so far does the trick but it is a bit of a pain. I’ll be making my own router lift for above table access though so stay tuned (they’re crazy money to buy!). Your videos are ace and confidence will come! I’ve got confidence and no skill so we’re basically polar opposites 👍😂👍
@thornedesignco
@thornedesignco Жыл бұрын
@@WoodworkJourney I’ll try and make dust collection a priority and get a video out soon haha! Good to know about the lift - I will have a think, there’s so many solutions in KZfaq it’s hard to choose 😂 looking forward to seeing your solution 😃

I would like a bench top planer thicknesser but can’t afford one right now. I do have my little Titan jointer planer but I don’t need the jointing bit and the thicknessing width is pretty small

We don’t have a lot, but the mower and garden tools are an a tiny thin metal shed (probably about 3ftx3ft). To be honest we try to minimise what we have with stuff like that, my wife also has some other boxes that hold her tools for the fruit and vegetable stuff she grows
